I was a chain smoker till about 22 years back. I was a government Officer and had my own cabin for office job. Next to my cabin, one other officer was occupying who was an Asthama patient and he used to cough and feel disturbed whenever I smoke. But I did not attach much attention to his ill-health. One day, when I was smoking, I heard an un-natural sound and I got up to see what actually happens. I could see the officer is in bad shape and is vomitting. I immediately entered inside his cabin, done some known first-aid and after some time he reached normalcy.

My above experience shaked my mind, I immediately destroyed all the cigrettes left in my drawer, took a very strong decision that I will not smoke in future. Now as on date I am 58 years plus age and did not broke my decision which could be attained with a strong WILL only. Further, I want to add that before this incident, I tried many ways - means to stop smoking, but all in vain. Any effort without a strong WILL, in my opinion may be a failure and resort to smoking after a small spell with or without reasons or due to varied circumstances. I explained my own experience in this regard to give high emphasis for a STRONG WILL that needed to stop smoking. Keep strong will - effort.I stopped, and it was very hard for me.

It-s not just one problem, it-s more like a hundred little ones that each have to solved individually. The patch might take care of 5% of the problem - don-t laugh, it-s 5% that needs to be solved. Habits or addictions are numerous and spread over among human being. Old habits die hard. But smoking can be given up. One has to make up his mind. You can quit it abruptly and decide not to smoke with immediate effect. A smoker does not spoil his health only but its exhaled smoke tells upon the health of others nearby. Smoking has passive effect also. When you feel like smoking, try to postpone it for next hour. Do not smoke while working or driving or walking. Do not smoke when you are in a company of smokers. Drink a glass of water every hour, specially when you feel like smoking. Promise your loved one not to smoke. I think that these are some tips which will help you stop smoking.
