How can you stop smoking? -

How can you stop smoking? -

I really want to stop smoking but I cant seem to stop any ideasGood question...It means you are ready to stop smoking. Try nicotine patches or nicotine gum. The addiction to smoking is mainly due to the craving for nicotine. Although the habit of putting the stick to your mouth contributes. Set goals for your self of when you expect to stop completely. Try reducing the number of sticks per day. Avoid peers or friends who smoke and/or drink.EASY BRO. I QUIT A 100 TIMES. LOLI haven-t had a single stick of cigarette for more than 2 years now. Well, that-s because I got sick (flu) one day. Flu went on for 3 days (w/o smoke). I decided to challenge myself for not smoking again for another 3 days. That made it 6 days! One the 7th day, I challenged myself not to smoke for one whole week! It actually worked.
This will really depend on you now. Be dedicated. Withdrawal symptoms will get in the way, but hey! I survived! You can too!!! KEEP YOURSELF BUSY WITH WHAT YOU LIKE BEST!!!
Good luck!nothing really seemed to help me at first..but i find that going to the gym/exercising reguarly and swimming helps alot

also, if you feel like a cigarette, have some gum instead. I guess everyones different, but this method worked for me :)

good luck!

ps: willpower also needed!WILL POWER , you shud ask this question to urselfTalk to your doctor, pharmacist or your county health department. They all will have ideas to help you. The biggest thing is not to do it alone. Best wishes.2 days stopped should be your target.

After that you have no nicotene in your system and its so much easier.

The best way to get over the intial cravings is to have a quick nap(15-20mins).When you wake up you wont feel like a fag.I did the shotgun approach. I didn-t expect to ever be able to stop. this worked easily the first time. I have no doubt this is the best approach because it literally uses everything. I literally went from nearly 2 packs a day to quitting overnight

1. Get a prescription for Zyban. It really helps. You will need to start 1 to 2 weeks b4 you quit.
2. Use the patch as a constant substitute.
3. Also use the gum when the cravings get bad.
4. Use the Oral spray the first few days. You can only use it a couple of times a day, but it is fast and as strong as a cigarette.

Quit smoking first. Then quit the oral spray. then the patch. Then the gum and Zyban.

Also:
5. Pick a time when you are away from people. They won-t want to be around you. You won-t want to be around them.
6. Find something busy to do the first week or so. I had it easy - I was unpacking from moving - I had a thousand decisions an hour to make. AN equivalent would be to pick up some plastic storage bins and sort/pack every posession you have. Another would be to create scrap books of every picture and nick nack you have.
7. While you are waiting for the 2 weeks for the Zyban, try a few short trial periods. This helps prepare you for what is to come. This also gives ytou achance to try the above in different amounts to see how much they will help. I also used this to try some other techniaues - for example, I found cherry menthol cough drops and nasal spray helped with the withdrawl symptoms.
8. Search the web. There is tons of good info. I searched to develop this system.
9. After you quit, keep the gum - everywhere. In the car. In your luggage. In your desk. Anyplace you go a lot. If you ever get an urge you can-t deny, it is better to go for the gum than start smoking again.

Make your 1st target to just quit smoking. As my doctor said, he didn-t care if I chewed gum for the rest of my life, it was still far better health wise and financially than smoking. I found that eliminating the rest was easy compared to smoking.

Even with this - using everything - there was a few hours where it was excruciatingly painful - but as they say, by the 3rd day it was a cakewalk (in fact by the end of the 1st day it was nothing using the above).

Be ready - this approach is expensive. The gum is about $0.25 a piece. The patches are about $1 a day. Zyban is about $2 a day. The oral spray, which is just to get you thru the first couple of days, is about $30. Over a month I think it cost me about $200 total.

You can try some other gimmicks, but statistically they are no more effective than cold turkey (accu punctue, hypnosis, etc.).

There are some other approaches that are more effective but they are extremely expensive (ex lasers, aversion therapy (think clockwork orange)).

If this doesn-t work, save up some bug bucks and go for in house aversion therapy. Like it said, think of the movie -Clockwork Orange.- It is extreme. It is expensive. it is nearly 100% effective.

Good luck.I smoked for 12 years. I dont care what people say it is in your head. You need to realize that the only real benfit is that it cures bordom or gives you something to do. I quit cold turkey after 12 yearsTry to visualize how disgusting the whole habit is. I mean there is a reason that people die from smoke inhalation. It ruins your insides, your outsides, everything. SPend some time with someone who has smoked for a long time and you will see the visual and health effects... you want that? What do you want more? LIFE or smoke? I just don-t get the whole smoking thing? Who ever thought of sitting around and inhaling smoke with poison and toxins? HUH? THink about the purpose? What purpose? You can always tell a smoker in a crowd, they are usually the one that-s a lesser class citizen... dirty,I just quit 9 days ago. I went and got some of the 2mg nicotine gum and over the period of 2 months tried to quit by using it as a substitute. Well 9 days ago I started chewing the gum about, again, but this time just kept with the gum. after about 3 days I dropped the gum. so i quit. I-m happy about it, feel the pain in my chest not really there anymore. I think either Marlboro is using cheap tobacco or they are putting something in it -cause i had got a pretty bad cough and the smokes didn-t taste right for the last 6 mos. good luck,, buy the big box of gum because it-s probably gonna take awhile be for you get it done. C.Easy. Stop buying cigarettes. Worked for me. Have some will power.Nothing but a strong will power and a committment to some one very special.

I was a compulsive smoker 1979-2004 June. Almost a chain smoker. Made several birthday and NewYear resolves to reduce/ stop smoking- would spring back to the usual or more within weeks.

Finally, my very unwell Dad (God rest his soul in peace) asked me to quit smoking as the only thing he had ever asked me in life. Took me a few minutes- crushed all cigarettes-threw them and lo...

yes, the first few hours, days and weeks were difficult. But I had a reason- a committment to my dearest and most revered Dad. Two months It tried to come back. I still miss smoking occasionally. But, what the heck! a committment is a committment n that too to ur own Dad.cold turkey is best you really don-t want to get another addiction while trying to get rid of one. GOOD LUCK I-LL BE PULLING FOR YOUPlease see the webpage for more details on Smoking - tips on how to quit.
