Do cancer patients know how important it is to quit smoking? -
I-ve had cancer myself (8 years ago, lymphoma) and have seen many cancer patients come and go during that time (I think you know what I mean by -go.-)
I-ve never seen a cancer patient who refused to quit smoking beat cancer - NOT EVEN ONCE!!! Didn-t matter how good their Doc was, didn-t matter what hospital they were in, didn-t matter what therapy they got...NOTHING!
If you are getting treated for cancer you need to stop smoking - period!!!
Look how healthy and fit Patrick Swayze is - he didnt- stop smoking - he is going to die.
Think about it!PFFFT!! They all know they gotta stop, they-re just too lazy to stop. My grnadfather smoked since he was 18. He get bad lung cancer and he smoked all throughout his treatment. He diedThe problem is, smoking is addicting. And people often want to quit smoking but they want to smoke at the same time.
To answer your question, yes i do believe they know they should stop. But they just cant. They expect the doctors to fix them right up how ever ****** up their bodies could be . . .

Taking alcohol and smoking after periodontal surgery? -
Taking alcohol and smoking after periodontal surgery? -
i had my periodontal surgery a week ago and was on medication. i finished the antibiotics prescribed to me today and i am only to take the pain relievers as needed. i had my post op a while ago and the dentist said we will have the threads removed by next week.
my concern is: can i now go back to smoking and drinking alcohol? i have a party to go to on sun and i know there will be lots of booze! my dentist told me not to, but i feel he-s just scaring me. i can stop smoking for now or until he says i can already. but the booze, i might not be able to stop myself from having since its a party!!! :)
please help! asap!Smoking makes it much harder for your body to heal from your surgery so I would recommend not smoking. After all you wouldn-t want impede your body-s ability to heal after the cost and time you have already invested.
I would expect that you should be able to drink at this point, providing you don-t have other narcotic pain relievers in your system. Alcohol can cause a strong reaction or liver damage if mixed with booze. So I would say go easy, but enjoy without smoking!
JAMRDH - a dental hygienistYou do not need to smoke! The dentist is not trying to scare you. He is telling you the truth. Smoking can cause your gums to not heal properly and it can also cause an infection which will be very painful. As far as drinking you should be fine to do this but stay away from having a smoke until your gums are completely healed.Taking alcohol and smoking after periodontal surgery? -
Why is alcoholism different than a smoking addiction? -
Why is alcoholism different than a smoking addiction? -
Why is it harder for an alcoholic to stop drinking alcohol than it is for a smoker to stop smoking cigarettes? I know alcoholism is a disease while smoking is an addiction...
Thanks!Alcohol addiction can harm your health. Many people have lost jobs, homes, and loved ones simply because they could not tame thier alcohol habit. I suggest you find some help. Here is a site that has addiction information and a directory of addiction treatment clinics so you can help.

I don-t think you can be that general when it comes to breaking strong addictions like cigarettes and alcohol; it all depends on the victim. Some people find it harder to quit smoking than alcohol, and vice verse. I think that a big factor in this is how much that person is exposed to the alcohol and/or tobacco. The more someone is exposed to it, the more tempting it will seem. So I think the best way to break a habit like that is to go somewhere like rehab, where you can-t be tempted by the drugs/alcohol.I don-t know that it is. I smoked and drank alcoholically for approximately 13 years. I have seven and a half years of sobriety and six and a half without smoking.
I quit both because of adverse health effects and my wife-s unhappiness with my behavior. I took advantage of an out patient treatment program and AA to get sober and stay sober.
I stopped smoking because I was sick and tired of coughing, chest infections and general poor health. One day I made up my mind to not by any more cigarettes. I-m not sure I ever officially quit smoking. It was easier for me just to not buy anymore. Before this I tried Welbutran, the patch and other smoking cessation programs. None worked for very long.
I clearly made poor chooses and allowed myself to rationalize both behaviors with flawed logic.
So, in my experience, smoking and drinking alcoholically are very difficult to overcome and I wouldn-t say that one was more or less difficult than the other.well i-m only 14. no expert.
but a disease is something u develop or catch. it-s physical. ur body adjusts 2 alcohol. it craves alcohol.
same thing wid marijuana, cigarettes, booze
but an addiction is more mental. ur brain wants it.
altho. honestly alcoholism is only a disease when it gives u long term effects. til then it-s just an addictionNicotine which is what the addictive ingredient in cigarettes is a stimulant just like caffeine. But, alcohol is a downer.Alcoholism isn-t a disease. That-s bullcrap. It-s an addiction. I don-t care what any doctor says he proves. An addiction is an addiction.Because smoking stinks, kills everbody and everything around too. Disgusting to say the least.an addiction is an addiction they both mentally and physically hurt you and your loved onesthey-re the same. they are both addictions, just not both socially acceptable. Why is alcoholism different than a smoking addiction? -

take care your health..Well, I tried quite a few time to quit, and what helped me the most is Chantix. It is a prescription medication so you have to talk to your doctor but I-ve quit since December. What you do with the medication is you set a quit date, start the medication and continue to smoke. Once the quit date comes, quit, If you slip and smoke thats ok, just really try not to. Very quickly the cigarettes start to taste really gross and the craving stop. You continue the Chantix until your doctor recommends. I stopped about a month after I quit, but everyone is different. I know alot of people that quit this way. good luck! They have various products that are sold in stores that are designed to help people stop smoking--nicotine patches are one of them. There is also a kind of gum called nicoderm that is supposed to help people stop smoking. Good luck!I know someone hu smkes n did everything and even spent large amts of money.but he still smokes coz he doesnt got dicipline.thts the important factor of all..if u knw hw to control urself not to smoke then ul b successful..hope ths helps!gudluck!I need help to stop smoking what advice can you give me? -
