How can i stop smoking? -
i told some people that i was quitting should finish what i have first? because it-s turning out to be harder then i expected. does anyone have any GOOD ideas on how to stop and what to do if i really feel like i need one and also should i just finish the other packs first or should i just though them away.u can stop buy not lighting them and putting them in your mouthokay, i-ve never smoked so i have no business anwering this but i feel so passionately about it that i want to try to help. i-ve seen al ot of friends fail at quitting smoking and here-s what i-ve learned:1. you have to be serious and committed. if this is quitting just for a new year-s resolution or for a guy it-s not going to work. if you won-t be disappointed in yourself if you fail, it-s not going to work.
2. don-t try to quit cold turkey. 1 in 100000000 people succeed like this. wean down slowly from 1 pack a day to 15 a day to 10 a day to 5 a day to 1 a day to 3 a week etc.
3. don-t try to quit during a very stressful period in your life. one bf tried to quit smoking while stationed iraq--didn-t happen
4. don-t be afraid to gain a few pounds. a little fat is way healthier than black lungs, and you can exercise once you-re through the withdrawl
5. replace the oral habit(eat oranges or celery sticks or chew gum)
6. stay away from those pseudo-friends who will be jealous or your willpower and constantly try to tempt you with cigs.
7. eliminate smoking cues--always smoke first thing in the AM? drink coffee instead. always smoke at the local bar while watching MNF? you may have to give up bar-hopping for a few months
8. once you-re -weaned- over about a month-s time, give leftover cigs to a REAL friend who will only give you one if you are desperate. If you have to break down and smoke, pay your friend 5 bucks for the one cig. try not to have desperate moment more than once or twice a week. eventually, the cigarette will taste bad to you. once you are a non-smoker for 3 whole months, spend the accumulated money on a present for yourself.
9. if you have insurance, obtain professional help. a doctor can give you zyban or just lots of support and advice.
good luck chick! :)I just quit. Decided one day that they tasted terrible and I smelled like crap, so I stopped. I also added up the amount of money they cost me all year and figure it to be about 150.00 a month on killing myself. Needless to say that was enough.OK...um smoking is a turn off...and well i think u should throw them away like rite now i don-t even understand y smokers go out and say they need a smoke...its more like i need a CANCER stick!!!!! so plz chew gum or do sum thing else besides smoking a cancer stick! also think about our air ur just polluting itCoincidentally, yesterday marked my first year anniversary as a non-smoker. I smoked for 27 years. First of all you have to REALLY REALLY want to quit. Pick a date you-ll want to use for your anniversary date. Smoke up what you have left, only smoke when the cravings are at a peak, not the triggers, while driving, with the coffee or any other drink, after a meal, etc ONLY when you-re really -Jonesing-. I-ve tried the patch, the gum, hypnosis,acupuncture,etc...you get the point. Commit Lozenges worked for me. I-m not advertising them, but they were actually effective in ceasing the cravings, anxiety, chest pain, all that neat stuff you feel while coming off the nicotine. Hope it works for you,I don-t need to tell you the alternative. I-m sure you-ve heard that enough. Oh and also The first 2 weeks were tough, get through those first 2 weeks and you-ll make it, I promise.I talked my daughter into using the -patch- and after about 5 weeks, she had it whipped.you have to be very strong willed and say no I don-t want that. Hypnosis works great though!!resist it and let anybody hide your cegaretes it-s not so hard just don-t say -1 cegaret won-t hurt-
the point is to be stronger than smokingFirst you have to really want to quit. I quit after 10 years and it wasn-t that hard. I finished my last one and didn-t buy anymore. it has been almost 7 months now. Realy it is all in the mind.Stop buying them! :-)ive quit both ways...
it really doesnt matter.
your still going to go through withdrawls.
so, you just have to be strong and do it which way you feel is more effective.Cold turkey.
Stop using them.Just think about how many people die each day from smoking. There are many risks with smoking. My aunt in hospitalized because she smoked and it makes me very upset when she told me she was going to stop and she didn-t so that showed her a lesson. I don-t want you to end up the same way.Sweetie you can try everything in the word but it is mind over matter . If you are not ready you won-t quit . You have to also be stronger then the cancer stick . Find something to replace that habit when you get stressed out . Taking a drive or something that dosen-t cost much . Good luck to you.
