I stopped my father smoking.
How? everytime he smoke, I kept giving new information regarding cigarrette deaths, Like -Dad, did you know everytime you take a puff, it takes 2 minutes off your life?-
Or
- Hey dad, you keep that up and there wont be any lungs left in ya-
He gave it up. Simple!
Try it, Hope it works out. Good luck.First you must know it is not easy to quit smoking. I had a struggle a long time on this so I know very well.

Be the survivor of a major heart attack like my husband did and that ought to do it for you. My husband had smoked for years - I begged him to stop. How could I stress to our 5 children the dangers of smoking while their Dad puffed away. He tried to stop, he really did. He just wasn-t man enough to put mind over matter. When he all but lost his life, he quit cold turkey, on his own, with no gimmicks.
He has been free for yrs. None of our 5 children or their spouses smoke. Thank God for helping me win that one.
Good luck to you.~~~~
My 32 yr. old nephew died 6 mo-s. after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, as a direct result of smoking. It was a terribly painful death - very sad.1. Realize that it is a psychological problem and not just a physical addiction. You have to find a way to heal your emotional issues because instead of facing your anxieties, tensions, fears, guilts and angers, you are stuffing them and turning to a cigarette to temporarily numb your emotions.
2. Stop drinking coffee, if you drink it, as this creates tension in the body and makes you want to have a cigarette to reduce the physical tensions.
3. Smoking causes cancer. If you continue smoking you will most likely get cancer. It also causes you to be very physically ill because cigarettes are full of all kinds of toxins, including arsenic. Do research on what they are putting into the cigarettes. So, if a fear of death and illness does not seem to stop you from smoking, then it must be you have a subconscious death wish because you are so unhappy with yourself and your life.
4. Buy a bottle of magnesium tablets from the health food store, or from a pharmacy. Take a couple of tablets several times a day when you feel particularly anxious or tense. This really helps.
5. Drink herbal teas instead of smoking cigarettes when you want to feel more relaxed.
6. Every time you get a physical and/or psychological craving to smoke, resist the temptation, and you will find that the craving goes away. Each time you do this, the cravings and desires to smoke become fewer and far between, until eventually they are no longer there.
7. Go cold turkey. Do not say to yourself, well, I-ll just cut down gradually, or I-ll have just one today, because this does not work. After smoking just a couple of cigarettes a couple of times, you will find yourself getting re-addicted and increasing the number of cigarettes gradually until you are back to your usual dosage of a pack or more a day.
8. Try hypnosis, combined with psychotherapy.
9. See if you can find some support groups for people who are trying to quit.
10. Pray to God to help you be able to quit and to be able to heal the psychological and spiritual causes behind your addiction.
11. Realize that addictions do not heal you, they just temporarily cover up your emotional pain. Realize that substance addictions of any kind are most often physically dangerous to your body, besides being psychological addictive and making you dependent on an outer substance.
You may already know a lot of what I-m saying, but having this list in front of you and reading it daily will help to remind you of why you want to quit and help to keep you on track.
These are the methods I used to quit smoking.Several have successfully stopped smoking, using the helpful suggestions in:

Try one of the following:
1. Wean yourself off
2. Stay with a non-smoking relative for 2-3 weeks and make it clear at the beginning that they are to deny you any smokes (most are more than happy to do this)
3. Get a coughing ashtray
4. Hang posters in your house that have lists of what cigarette smoke contains (eg formaldehyde, uranium, radon, fingernail polish remover)
5. Have someone hang out with you, put some strips of duct tape on your arms, and have them yank one off every time you reach for a smoke.Seriously, the best way to stop is cold turkey. 10 Step Programs are complete B.S.
The only way you-re going to stop is if you really want to. The real successful way really is just to stop completely. The continuation of putting nicotine in your system (even light amounts) will simply make it harder on you.
I won-t lie. Stopping like this will suck...majorly. You will hate life - all who dwell on it. Simply be patient, - ask your friends/family to do the same. After the first week it will get easier though. Just take it one day at a time.
One of the hardest parts will be not having something to do with your mouth. Try some hard candies. Suckers will be the best.Chantix. These are smoking cessation tablets. They are prescription only, but I heard it works very well. You begin with the starter pack, then progress to the continuing pack.Spend more time with your family. If this dosen-t work go to Russia and get it whiped out of you.(--How do i stop smoking? Lozenges and gum are no help? -
