What are the benefits of stopping smoking? -

What are the benefits of stopping smoking? -

You know all the usual responses (save money, be healthier, lower your risk of lung cancer and chronic lung disease etc). So I would like to remind you that you-ll have a much wider choice of friends (some people really can-t stand the smell) and be welcome in many more places (homes, restaurants etc). What is also important is that - once you-ve got over the initial withdrawal phase, which is a pain in any addiction - you-ll be able to get on with your life without a constant anxiety about whether you have got your drug with you, whether you can buy it when you run out etc.

What can be both a difficulty and a benefit is that you will no longer be able to suppress all feelings instantly. This means you will have to feel things - sometimes painful things - which can be tough, but does also mean you-ll feel more fully alive and in touch with yourself. So forget the living LONGER - the real issue is living more FULLY.Feel better about yourself. Dont have to waste your money on them! and of course LIVE!Saving lots of money.
Fewer chest infections.
Senses of taste and smell return to normal.
Process of premature ageing, particularly of skin, stops.
Bad breath and unpleasant odours in hair and on clothes disappears.
Staining of skin and teeth lessens.
Danger of setting fire to home decreases.
Life expectancy increases due to decreased risk of contracting cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and circulatory problems.Save money less for the Government to waste has they do not give it to the NHS.saving £5:50 a dayThe multitude of benefits are listed on the American Cancer Society link below.LIFE.

Dr. MYou would think from reading all the responses that people actually care about smokers health, in fact, they don-t, they only care about their own health and convenience. And anyway, their health isn-t at risk, because the passive smoking argument is just an exaggerated scare story.

I can accept it almost anywhere apart from those pubs where the owner chooses to retain it. That is a small compromise for the intolerant ones to make, but they wont even do that.

The benefits that are claimed for stopping smoking are obviously valid. However, you could make a claim to ban alcohol and contact sports, being nasty, and being rude and intolerant to other people. Actually, causing stress to others in whatever way, has a much greater affect on health than passive smoking. There is more to life than trying to live as long as you can. Pubs. are about socialising, not proving how puritanical you can be by exchanging stories about what other nasty things you don-t do, and therefore, should also be banned.

Sorry, but I didn-t want to just repeat the usual mantras.you die quickeryou dont need to buy anymore ash trays..you-ll be able to play with your grandchildren and your grandchildren-s children :)You stabilise any COPD, progressively reduce your heart attack and lung cancer risk. Best of all you will feel better!your taste buds come back and you get to taste yummy food LOL

plus you dnt get out of breath, you feel healthier and you become more active ;)life
white teeth
no cancer
list goes on...

seriously i would try to quit asap, its not worth itSurely you know the answer to that, all them ads you see. Prolongs your life, don-t make you smell, a lot richer person blah blah!ask your docter the same think. maybe he-ll have a better answer.do you mean the obvious benefits, like more money in your pocket not smelling of smoke, or the health benefits like lungs working again, blood pumping properly, not dying so young?
We had a neighbour who smoked 80 a day, she was 84, her daughter was dying of cancer, she was mortified that her daughter would die before her, she was 100% healthy at the time. She stopped smoking and two years later died.NOT dying of lung cancer...You wont smell like a smelly ashtray, others can inhale around you without inhaling your smoke. Financially you will be much better off!! You will feel better!!!you will not get CHD with causes you to have an heart attack your breath will smell better you teeth will be whitter you will be much fitter you could add up to 15 years to your life and if you smoke you could end up breathing through a tube in your neck by 60, you lose hair qiucker and you can get lung cancer ( and thats not all.......)I know its not easy but for myself I am not as irritable, thinking about the next time I-ll be able to smoke my next cig. It gets to be inconvenient at times. I think I smell better. I save 5 bucks a day. I won-t get into the -health- reasons, but my kids will hopefully see me for many more years than they would have if I continue smoking.you live longer dummy

What can help me stop smoking? -

I-m 21 and i have smoked since i was 14 about 15 - 20 a day. I now want to stop. I know there is patches etc out there that could help but is there anything else as well? I feel i need a lot of help. Is there any really good non boring books out there? What helped you? I work in an office i-m new there and i can-t really be at work in a mood. Anything that might help please, even alternative stuff.
I-m gonna put an amethyst crystal on my desk would that help relax me a tiny bit?
And what can i do in an emergency? Like when i-m 100% stressed out and on the brink of lighting up again?
Please please helpMy husband would cut straws to cigarette length and chew on them when he was desperate. Lots of sugar free gum and hard candy, too.
I quit a 2 pack-a-day 27 year long habit cold turkey 5 years ago, and I can tell you the 1st 3 days are bad, but each day after that becomes easier. After 3 to 4 days, the physical addiction is gone, but the mental - emotional ones are still there. Keep your hands busy- take up knitting or get some of those wire puzzles to fiddle with. And when a craving hits, tell yourself just 30 more minutes...then repeat after 30 minutes.

Be strong- if I can do it, anyone can!The electronic cigarette, or e-cig, in most cases looks just like a traditional cigarette and is made of a mouthpiece that holds a nicotine cartridge, a heating element or atomizer, a battery and an LED at the tip of the device. The way e-cigs work is that they contain an airflow meter that is triggered when the user inhales on the device. This activates the circuitry and delivers the nicotine to user by a short burst of vapor that is inhaled. The LED at the tip lights up showing that the battery is working and also making the device appear similar to a lit cigarette. The vapor that is exhaled may look like smoke but it is actually just a water, propylene glycol based vapor that is odorless and harmless. I took this information from http://www.buycheapecigarettesonline.comI started smoking when I was 13 and by 14 was puffing away over a pack a day. I quit when I was 23 and haven-t looked back. How did I do it?

I started working for a cancer hospital -number one in the world- and that was a major wake-up call. I figured I was too young to get cancer from smoking until a 15-year old was getting an CT of his brain. The doctor beside me pointed out all of the tumors in his brain, seven I think. The cancer spread to his brain after it originated in his lungs from smoking. I-m certain he hasn-t made it. The statistics are grim.

One out of every eight people diagnosed with lung cancer didn-t smoke. Think about it every time you light up. You are putting your life in jeopardy each time you smoke.

You probably already know this though right? My cousin used to tell me that if God wanted her to die of cancer from smoking there was no way around it, she would accept His plan. Let me tell you this, when you-re getting chemotherapy treatments that make you throw up every hour, lose all your hair, make you weak; when you get radiation that does the same; or when you get a piece of your lung removed, you aren-t going to be saying that this is God-s Plan. You-re going to be asking yourself why you were so stupid to smoke a cigarette.

Cancer can happen to you. It can kill you. It can affect your friends and family for the rest of their life. If that-s not enough to quit then I don-t know what else will help you.

Smoking? Working OUt? Advice? -

Well I started Smoking 6 months ago and it was just like 1nce a week or 1nce a month... Then in june I started Smoking heavily from --stress-- and other stupid reasons. I had a job that caused me to stress wich made me smoke more ciggarretts a day. 1nce on my way to work, when im on break,1-2 after work. I get home and then Workout wich is a ***** sometimes because of My lungs cant take it. I Workout Everyday and sometimes i cant because im tired and/or my lungs whont let me but, when i do , I push myself to the limits wich makes me do it with ease. July It got worse i smoked the same amount but i struggle to workout but there are some days where i Can Workout Allot more and Run for miles. yet sometimes i cant even run allot without Getting tired. I dont have a cough niether. In Sept1st im sighning for the Army and plan to stay for YEars. im 17 and i know i HAve to stop smoking and i do plan to stop smoking before i join.. I hate feeling lightheaded after smoking but the feeling of smoking (not lightheaded) eases me.. I know im young and spare me the talk... has anybody whent through something similiar like this? did you stop? sometimes im scarred because what if i cant join the army because after quitting smoking,my lungs whont function right and make me weak. I am Very athletic and nobody can keep up with me when i workout or Run. funny cause i hate the smell of smoke, But What will happen to me after i quit? I will stop for my Future career.. can my lungs get worse After quiting?I don-t smoke, but I do know how highly addictive it can be. Quit now cause September is just around the corner. You can go on the nicotine patch or try Nicquderm CQ gum to help you quit smoking. After you quit, there are some side effects such as weight gain. The weight gain is usually from increased appetite but that-s only temporary. Trust me, the benefits outweigh the unwanted side effects, and your lungs will improve and get much better. Quit while you-re still young. Your body will thank you for it. Good luck.stop while you can, you will only get more addicted.
try the patches and nicorette gum i think it is.

look at this picture every time you want to smoke.
the healthy lung is what your lungs look like without smokeing.

the emphysema lung is what your lungs look like when you smoke.

For information about quitting smoking - Chantix, go to - www.chantix.com

No, I don-t have any interest in the sales of it. I-m a respiratory therapist. They have had good luck with this medicine.Never smoked before, but I do know that your lungs will only get better.
Good luck!

Whats the best way to stop smoking with out the patch or gum? -

Whats the best way to stop smoking with out the patch or gum? -

I started quiting by extending the time before i smoked for example first thing in the morning i always smoked so i waited til after coffee then i waited til after lunch then waited til afternoon pretty soon it was one before bed then it was none at all. this worked for me and made it easier to quit but it may not work for you cold turkey has helped others. My father in law got a pill from the doctor. different people different methods. Try your best and don-t give up trying to quit! Good luck!!!Most doctors agree, is to quite cold turkey, if u can get by after a week, you could do it. That how i did it, I woke up and decided i was going to stop, it was terrible for the first week, but after that i started to feel better, i stayed away from people who smoked and didn-t drink or go to bars for two months, I-ve been smoke free now for 7 months. Will power u could do it. Otherwise, go see a doctor, there is a new drug out, 4get name, my BF is on it now, and has not smoked for 19days so I guess its working. LOLtie ur hands behind ur back , and celotape on ur mouth that should do the trick lol !!!!Join Yogacold turkey... the first few days are rough.....

i smoked two packs a day for many many years....

I made up my mind that on June 1, 2000 I would stop smoking....

I have not smoked for six years..... once you cheat.. it is hard to stop...

just bare through it and it gets easier...... and do not believe that crap about gaining weight....

yes i still think about smoking.. and i dream about it.. wait or should i say i have nightmares.. and i wake up worried that I was smoking....

i can be around other people who smoke and it does not bother me...

my main concern was when i was in a bar drinking or partying... hell a few more shots and who needs cigs in a bar....

it is easier just to quit all together.. and get it out of your system once and for all.....

i tried the gum and patches in the past.. and it did not work....

cold turkey is the way to go...Just try not to stress out and take up going to a dance club or yoga or better yet go to a spa don-t have the money then go to a cheep nail place and get all your nails done the foot treatment is wonderful and just take ur mind off smokeing and relax.martial arts, not hanging out with people who do smoke and start thinking about something alse to keep you cool down...cold turkey!I-ve never smoked but can I suggest plain chocolate? It-s not too fattening and something to get addicted to that can, I believe, do you a little good. Hope this helps.Well, for sure, cancer and emphysema cure smoking. To stop smoking I used to chew one of those little red plastic stir sticks you get in some bars - fast food restaurants for stirring coffee - things..
I would carry around about a dozen or so in my pocket..
Every time I wanted a cigarette, I would chew on one of the little sticks....Worked perfect...Within a few weeks, I didn-t need the sticks any more....I have not smoked in years ....Beleive it or not ; plain old cold turkey is still the best and most effective way to quit. put a pck in your pocket nad leave them there
you can-t hide from trouble, meet it head onCold turkey......................Change all your routines or habits that involved smoking. Don-t hang out with smokers. Eat a carrot every time you want to smoke (part of the addiction is the hand/mouth thing.) Get rid of all your ashtrays. Have your car professionally cleaned to get the smoke smell out. Don-t go to bars where they allow smoking. Don-t drink the same alcoholic drinks that you used to while smoking. Remove (or rearrange) the chairs on your patio or in your garage where you used to sit and smoke. Drink tea or coffee immediately after every meal instead of smoking. Come up for a solution when something stresses you out - an aromatherapy candle, chamomile tea, etc.Electroshock therapy.Try talking to someone. It depends on the lengh of time one has been smoking. The longer the time the harder it is for some to quit .THEY HAVE THESE CIGARETTES CALLED CIGARETTE. YOU SMOKE THEM AND THEY SUPPOSE TO STOP YOU FROM SMOKING AFTER THAT PACK....IT COMES ON T.V. THERE COMMERCIAL

The side effects of stoping smoking? -

About three days I stopped smoking. I was feeling terrible all the time, my skin was a mess, and I knew I needed to stop smoking. Since I stopped, I have felt even worse.I have been coughing up some kind of mucas, my throat is really sore, I feel dehydrated, and I-m havuing trouble sleeping. Why do I keep coughing?I quit too and have been doing the same. so I am going to join the gym this weekend to help level everything out. down with an old bad habit and in the a new healthy one! :) good luck and keep it up.First of all Congrats!!!!! You are coughing like that because your body is trying to expel some of the crap that you have been putting into all these years. You are having trouble sleeping because you are not getting that stimulant anymore that your body has grown accustom to. Your throat is hurting because it is trying to heal. The coughing will go away but its going to take time. Stick with it. In three months you will be amazed at how great you feel.Unfortunately for you you have about 5 weeks to go for most of the symptoms are up (it gets easier in about 1 week).

After that you should be in the clear, the watch the occasional craving you get every few months.it-s just withdraw syptoms, make sure u drink plenty of water :) and dont start back up again! itl just get worse. congrats :)
