Question about stopping smoking? -

Question about stopping smoking? -

its been 8 weeks since i stopped, an hasnt been as hard as i thought, i was a moderate to heavy smoker for 20 years, how much has my body recovered so far, i know it is easier to breath.Congrats and good luck on keeping it up! I-m smoke free for a year this week!

-After 20 minutes:

* Your blood pressure falls back towards normal.
* your pulse rate also tends to fall back to normal.
* Your hands and feet tend to warm up to normal.

After 8 hours:

* Carbon-monoxide in your blood stream drops towards normal.
* Oxygen levels increases toward normal in your system.

After 2 days:

* Your heart attack risk starts to decrease.
* Better level of taste and smell for you.

After 3 days:

* Your lung functions get better.
* Breathing is smoother.
* Walking becomes easier for you.

After 2 weeks to 3 months:

* Improved general circulation.
* Up to 30% better lung function.

After 6 months:

* Less coughing.
* More energy.
* Diminished shortness of breath.
* Reduced sinus congestion.
* Fewer infections.

In less than one year:

* Your risk of having an heart attack is cut in half from when you smoked.

After 10 years:

* Your risk of getting lung cancer is now cut in half from what it was when you smoked.

After 15 years:

* Your risk of having an heart attack is now the same as if you never smoked.-To fully recover, you need a year. The little hairs in your throat that filter the air you breath will still need to grow back.

But, After the first few days, your circulation will start to improve, you can notice this by being able to breath a little easier, and maintain a good body temperature. i.e. not getting sweaty as easily or cold as easily. After 8 weeks, the sacs in your lungs should begin returning to normal shape.first off, congrats!! it-s great that you stopped!! - you should keep it up too!! (:

if you smoked for that long - was a heavy smoker, your lungs are still going to be full of tar and covered in black. i used to be a nurses aid - from what i-ve seen, heard, - studied, your lungs will try to heal themselves, but it won-t ever be like you never smoked. it will get a little better. so far, your lungs are probaby look the same as it did when you stopped. but the health - condition of your lungs will improve. to help this, you should exercise. it will pump the blood for your lungs AND your heart. so you get a 2 for 1 deal!!

(=I really don-t know sorry I don-t smoke.
Good luck quitting I hope you get rid of that nasty habit.
You will get a bit more healthier but your lungs will always be black.
Every cigarette takes of an hour or half an hour of your life I heard this in a bodys exibit in NYC. And it doesnt matter how much you recovered so far from smoking. Keep up the good work smoking is bad for you trust me my grandfather died from it, my uncle, my cousin vinnie, my great aunt, and mostly all of my extended family.
They also drank and they smoked.
Plus now you can have some extra $$$stuff also starts tasting better.cool!!..my sister who was a smoker for 35 years has been stopped now for 8 months..i think it-s cool when people quit..i wish you luck.good for you. I would give it six months keep it up.within 15 years yur bodly will be clean from tar ....DOOMED no jk. why? are u gonna start smoking again? oh 20 years yah ur dommed

How can I lose Weight after stopping smoking? -

How can I lose Weight after stopping smoking? -

I stopped smoking in April of this year after twenty five years on the weed,I feel fine and did not have problems stopping however,I have put on two stone in weight and need to know how I can safely lose it and get to my happy Ten Stone which I maintained whilst smoking.
I do not actually eat any more than I did which is why it makes it more confusing and I desperately need to get rid of this weight before it gets out of hand.
Any help will be gratefully accepted thanks.It is possible that youn are eating more junk food?

I suggest joining a gym. Working out is actually quite fun.

When you get to the gym warm up and then use some weights. This will build body muscles which is better at burning calories and works of the stored energy (cabohydrates) that is in your body. When you feel that you have done enough move onto cardio. Running, cycling, ROWING, strairmasters. Make sure you do these for a least 30 minutes to really getting rid of that fat and get your weight down.

Then do some situps, crunches, pressups etc to build chest and stomach muscles (and its a good rest while lying down).
If you then have the energy do some more cardio.

It is painfull but will get easier. Stick at it. Dont go home and have snack - eat fruit.

It will take some time to lose the fat and build up muscle but the results are worth it. Just dont forget to do the weights first...if you dont the cardio burns off your stored energy and doesnt rally maske a difference to your fat.

One final point - dont end up back smoking as this wont help the weight problem. It is possible you body is finding it hard to balence after so many years of the same thing. It wil take a while to settle down and get back into its normal cycle. Just work out untill then to keep yourself healthy.I agree with what everyone else says about exercise.

But as for the confusion bit, I have read that smoking (nicotine) *can* increase your body-s metabolism, so that might explain at least part of your weight gain without having increased the amount you eat.

I also gained weight (for a number of reasons) when I quit smoking 5 years ago, but I sure wouldn-t go back smoking for anything! Congratulations on having quit!You should get some exercise, some form that you can incorporate into your life at least 3-4 times a week. Also improve your diet. Eat healthy, drink water, and take your vitamins, that-s the best defense.ExerciseSexercise...Join a gym.

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

My new year resolution is stop smoking. What is the most effective method to rid one of this deadly habit?You have to replace a habitual hobby with another. Instead of smoking, eat carrot sticks, chew gum, or do something else that-s healthy in order to make it nearly impossible for you to smoke. Commit, Nicorette or nicotine patches would be last resort, but they-ve all been proven to be effective, and also expensive.Everytime you want to smoke, chew a piece of gum. Smokers always have to have something in their mouth, so chew gum, have a lollypop, have a mint.....eat a candy. Or you can draw a picture of lungs and color it black!jump off a bridge for meWhat I-ve been told by those who smoke is that quiting is really more of a commitment and decision than anything else. MAKE UP YOUR MIND you will throw away that last pack, and that is IT.The only method that works is proper motivation. If you are not really ready to quit, whatever method you choose will not work. If you are ready to quit, whatever method you choose will work.well l been a smoker for years and lm with you on this and lts just an awful habit to quit. but ask your doctor cause theres pills out now that you can take to quitTry to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.if ur going to quit smoking u will have to fight hard against it
its not going to be easy but take same quit smoking medison (sorry about the spelling) and u will have to give it a fight for about 2 to 3 weeks go on u can quit smoking.u quit smoking and peaple around you will be much better healthChewing gum can help with the oral fixation. Myself, I liked having something in my hands, so I got a stress ball and a hand exerciser if I felt myself getting fidgety.

The problem a lot of people run into is the fact that it-s such a big part of their routine. Try varying your routine in other ways so that you won-t notice it nearly as much. Waking up at a different time, taking breaks and doing something different, taking walks, etc.

The nicotine cravings suck, but I promise they will eventually go away. A lot of people like to eat if they get them, and this can help, but just be careful you don-t overeat. A lot of people trying to quit end up gaining a lot of weight because of this.The patch worked for my son. I just quit.
