Trying to stop smoking, need a little help? -

I used to smoke a lot of cigarettes when i was younger and i stopped for a while but every once and a while i slip back into it, i dont know why. I have like one cigarette, but i really want to cut it out completely. Its a little hard and i usually feel really bad afterwards. I dont want to hear a lecture about how it is bad, going to kill you etc. i just need some advice, encouragement on to how to stop, and what to do in ways to stop it. i know its not going to be terrible to have one every so often. but its a gross habit i eventually hope to rid myself of.The easiest way is to just simply stop buying them. Throw away any you happen to have around the house. Then you won-t slip back into it!

And really, if you-re only having one every so often, I wouldn-t even call that a habit. I eat a chocolate bar every once in awhile and don-t see myself having a chocolate habit. It-s where you can become addicted again is what you need to be careful of. I-m the same way; I-m not addicted but only smoke once in awhile/when I feel like it. Contrary to what anti-smoking propaganda tells you, smoking one cigarette is NOT as bad as smoking a hundred, and it IS possible to smoke without getting addicted. So enjoy your one-in-awhile smoke and don-t feel too guilty. :)

But if you REALLY want to cut it out entirely, like I said... just don-t buy -em.One possiblity is to stop worrying about it, because for psychological reasons, it can sometimes be easier to cut back on something than it is to stop. -Perfect is the enemy of good.- Another is hypnosis.

PS -- Since you-ve mostly stopped the patch would *not* be good. It could make you very sick and it could make your habit worse by increasing the amount of nicotine you ingest.Have you tried a patch?
It is another -nicotine delivery system- that is not oral...but will give you some relief from the physical need....

Good for you, keep it up, take it a DAY at a time....and baby steps will get you there......

It sounds like you don-t have much of a physical addiction otherwise you would be smoking a lot more. Maybe your addiction is more psychological and you need to fix that side of smoking.

If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.
Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.
