Trying to get someone to stop smoking.....? -

i am trying to get someone to stop smoking cigarettes so i am writing a persuasive essay . Can you help me give information on the effects of smoking and also i need help on the introductionFirst, just be aware that you cannot make someone do something that they don-t want to do, especially someone with an addiction.

About 62 million people in the United States ages 12 and older, or 29 percent of the population, are current cigarette smokers, according to the 1996 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse. This makes nicotine, the addictive component of tobacco, one of the most heavily used addictive drugs in the United States. There are lots of the negative effects of smoking as smoking related deaths account for more deaths than car accidents, cancer, suicide and homicides combined.
So, I’ve put my findings in a website where is free for you to visit.

Does a few puffs at night of a cigarette make a big difference on my baby-s growth, or heart rate, now? I-m 7wks. Or is it ok? I-m trying to quit. I-t s so hard. I don-t want to loose it.you should not be smoking at all whether its only a couple puffs or not. you should try the nicotine patch. i smoke 1 and a half packs a day and got the patch and i havent had a cigerette now in 15 days. it is hard for the first week but just chew lots of minty gum and now i still think about it but no where near as much and i dont have cravings any more. if i can do it, you can. ... good luck

Anyone ever stopped smoking through hipnosis? -

yes i did and so did my father, he smoked for over 30 yrs and hasn-t pickd on up for atleast 20 now. The main thing is we wanted to be non-smokers... not that we wanted to quit!!!! DO NOT DO GROUP HYPNOSIS either.. group hypno works on less then 10% of people. You should find a good certafied master hynotist to do your sessions. You may also want to look into the american hypnosis clinic as they have many locations (over 150 now) and they also guarentee their work... if you ever relapse you can go back in free of charge for life..i-ll put their link here. Most importently, you should check out references of hypnotist before you go as many states have no requirements before being able to practice it..get references and ask about guarentees..... it-s normally a good rule of thumb that if a company offers a guarentee that they do so with confidence they will almost never have to use it... best of luck to you!!!!

no but i have lost weight through hypnosis.so give it a try ,just remember that it doesn-t work on all people, good luckMy sister used to smoke more than 20 per day for 30 years. Two years ago she decided to see a hypnotherapist to help her give up. She had a 2 hour session and has not smoked since.Yes I stopped, but then I started again. But the real trick behind stopping smoking is that you really have to want to do it. Nobody can really make you do anything that will stick a diet/quitting smoking unless you want to. I want ed to quit smoking, but not really. I enjoyed it. I woke up one day and decided I wasn-t gonna smoke anymore, and just stopped cold turkey. I-ve been hypnotized before.....for real, and the guy who did mine wasn-t really good. Maybe because it was in a room full of people and it was hard to relax, but I didn-t fel hypnotized at all. Plus to be hypnotized you have to allow it, it can-t be forced on you. There are so many factors. If you really want to quit, you will. If your not ready, then maybe next time.Nope I can not be hypnosised. many have tryed none have made itMy sister did. She said it was interesting, but it did not work. You shoud try to stop smoking on your own such as decreasing the amount of time you buy cigaretts so you can at least start by cutting back. It is wise to stop being in the presence of other smokers because it becomes harder to not want one. Start exercising and take care of yourself. I smoked during my 4 years in high school and continued to smoke. I cut back, stopped buying them and got tired of bumming smoke off others. I would have liked to continue, but I developed asthma when I stopped and it-s really not worth my health risk. I now take an inhaler before I exercise. I used to always get asthma bronchitis and throat problems when I smoked. I don-t get them anymore. It was not hard to stop, I just had to make a few adjustments in my life and I am proud to say -I did it.-Many people have effectively used hypnosis to stop smoking. I think that if you believe that it will work your chances for success are much greater than if you are doubtful. in the mid 90s there were several companies that jumped on the bandwagon offering post hypnotic suggestion and hypnosis to cure many forms of addictive behavior. In answer to the way you spelled hipnosis i would say everyone knows its not hip to smoke...lol One thing for sure never quit quitting..i tried it. it didnt work for me though. my dad recently gave me a web addy though www.mytimetoquit.com i havent looked at it yet but i have it on my monitor so i see it everytime i look at the screen and it will finally annoy me and i will check it out.no. i suggest nicotine gum or patches or something. maybe even stop smoking tea if you are a tea drinker.I did for 6 months than I hit major stress (dieing brother) and I stopped listening to the tape and starting traveling in the car about 1000 miles a week and starting smoking again when I drove and relaps into smoking anytime after another month
So get support also to help thru any rough patches.
I think if I was notalways driving alone I could have stayed on track but I got bored being aloneMy exbrother in law he stopped after hipnosis

does anybody know any good ways to stop smoking for good if you havent been smoking for that long and its very rare to have a whole pack in one day? usually its only a few cigarettes each day or every couple days. Many smokers try to stop smoking everyday, but only your can make the decicsion for yourself. Make a strong will and GO for it. Good luck!Everybody-s right about cold turnkey, but . . .

First YOU have to want to quit for YOU. Nobody else--not your spouse or kids or anybody else but YOU.

Even a light addiction such as yours can be hard to stop. I got help by taking a smoking cessation class offered by the American Lung Association and I learned what to do with my hands after a meal or sex, and to substitute one drink for another when the first one might trigger a need for a cigarette, i.e., drinking soda instead of beer or tea instead of coffee.

They taught us that a craving only lasts a few minutes--go do something else for a few minutes and it-ll soon pass.

When I quit there was nothing but that nasty tasting gum but today there are patches and even a pill that seems to work very effectively. I have four friends who managed to quit, three of whom have stayed off of them for better than a year now.

That pill is available by prescription only. See your doctor and/or go take a smoking cessation class. I quit on 15 April 1991 and have never had another one since. Best thing I ever did for myself. BTW, I smoked 3-5 packs a day!!!
Good luck. You have to pacify yourself. Hard candy, gum, etc. Each day there after the nicotine fit supsides.
I quit chewing Smokless tabacco by placing a dried pinto bean between my cheek and gum. It worked!!!!!!! I made my mind think I had a chaw in their.
Find yourself something that will pacify having that cigerette in your mouth. Probably hard candy or gum.
Also did you try the over the counter gum or candy they sale to curb your nicotine fits??????????

Also you can go to a family doctor and he will give you a perscription drug that will take the withdraw away. Works like the over the counter anti smoking gum. Hope it works for you. I have been nicotine free now for 10 years.Congratulations on your decision to get the nicotine monkey off of your back. It takes some people an entire lifetime of coughing and hacking and they never quit.

I quit Jan. 11, 2007 and it took about three days to get rid of the urge to smoke...each day got easier until finally I was nicotine free.

After you take the pledge, tell others about it...all free!try nicotene free cigs and then when you-re comfortable enough to stop smoking all together gradually lose a few cigs at a time. or you could just do what i did and just stop and dont get tempted to pick one up again...then again i didnt get addicted...If you haven-t been smoking long i would stop now. Use 4mg nicorette fresh mint chewing gum, then go down to 2mg. Fresh mint is very important. I have been stopped a year now. But i also went on a course with the NHS.Just do it cold turkey. If you are going days without them sometimes it doesn-t even sound like you-re that addicted. Practice some self-control and I-m sure you-ll work it out.you should try hypnosis. but be patient it can take up to six treatments, i did hypnosis for a fear of public speaking and now I-m fine. and my hypnotist says that it can cure addictions as well.I-ve smoked on and off when i was in the military, and the best way to do it cold turkey. Just stop smoking. Why pay someone to kill you??just distract yourself by other things (i.e. sports, work, games)
Also it is important to stay around nonsmokers and have people encourage youDon-t buy anymore cigarettes.Chew those gums that help you out off nicotinecold turkey

Does your lungs repair themselves after you have stopped smoking for 5 years? -

Does your lungs repair themselves after you have stopped smoking for 5 years? -

Your body starts to repair itself almost immediately and the longer you go without the better. It depends how long and much you have been smoking though as to how long it takes to get back to normal. 15 years is enough to get your lungs back to a completely normal state!Yes they do, but if you have been diagnosed with Emphysema this cannot repair, its permanent damage!to large extent yes.

Smoking addiction vs food addiction. Are they similiar?? -

Smoking addiction vs food addiction. Are they similiar?? -

I used to be a smoker for 15 years and stopped completely five years ago. I gained 10 lbs from this process, it may not sound a lot but I needed to lose weight and having to gain 10 just makes it harder. In total, I need to lose 20 lbs. Some things I noticed about smoking is habit, having a cigarette with a drink or coffee. Or smoking after work. With all that said, i completely changed my habits and circle of friends and have become an ex smoker.

Now, I-m putting my energy with losing weight. I enjoy being around people that care about their health. But I need help with finding ways to stay slim... Helping my sweet tooth without it being out of control. It seems stopping smoking is easier because it-s elliminated from your life. Food is there for you to stay alive...What are your thoughts??Unlike other addictions.. Food is something you have to have to stay alive.. So its much more problematic as an addiction.

Cigs - you can avoid and still live.
Alcohol - you can avoid and still live.
Drugs - you can avoid and still live..

And with each of those addictions.. you know darn good and well when you-re backsliding because there is no other reason to partake in them. Not like people are hiding them in your water. :)

Food however is a totally different bandit. You have to eat.. but each person is different in how much is necessary, and what foods are best for them. Some people do better on a high protien diet, while others need a more balanced diet with carbs.

Is one bowl of ice cream a week -falling off the wagon-? or is does it take two? :)

While all addictions are essentially the same.. a food addiction is much harder to manage and control.

As for battling your sweet tooth.. when craving something sweet.. don-t go for anything with corn syrup as it is not filling and mildly addictive in its own right. Try to eat sugary foods to squelch your craving with real sugar in them, and try to only eat 3 bites at a sitting. You can always eat more later if you absolutely NEED to. :) Also avoid fake sugars, they-ll only make you crave sugar more.Yeah, addictions are similar, no matter what you-re addicted to. In fact, some people who are addicted to food and then have obesity surgery tend to take up another addictive behavior, like drinking or smoking. Maybe you could try having healthy things on hand to put in your mouth: sugar-free gum, veggie sticks, fruits (dried or regular), whole grain snack crackers. Just realize that when you feel the urge to eat something, realize that you might not be hungry, it might just be the oral fixation setting in. Then try a piece of gum. If that doesn-t work, try drinking a glass of water with lemon in it. And if you still feel like you-re going to go crazy without eating something, then just snack on things I mentioned above. They all have a lot of chewing motion, which will also help you trick your body into thinking you-re eating a lot. Good luck, and congrats on not smoking anymore!!I agree, you can stop smoking completely and do things to avoid it while food is necessary in some capacity.
As for your sweet tooth - - I just found a new thing, Chiquita (yes, the banana people) makes cut up apples with caramel dipping sauce that comes in pre-measured baggies. ITS FAT FREE and the sauce is remarkably sweet - - helps me big-time.I believe that all addictions are equal. Some are much worse than others.
