Tips on getting my dad to stop smoking? -
Hi, my dad smokes about 2 cigerretes a day.He works quite hard in his ( office ) job.
I want to get him to stop as i believe now is the right age for him to stop.
He is 45, not very fit, in fact maybe hes a tiny bit overwieght.
I cant tell him all the dangers of smoking because hes well aware of what it can do ( seeing as he saw his mum slowly die of it ).
Any tips ? to cut the craveing.
Thanks everyone, much appreciated2 cigarettes a day, huh? Hmmmmm. What about asking him to seeif he could cut down to one a day and thenif he has a craving, replace it with something else like his favorite food or activity or something? It may be easier for him to quit if he-s only smoking 2 a day like you stated.
You could try candid talks with him about it like, -Dad, I worry that your smoking will get me to want to do it too- or -How about we see how long you can go without the second one, today?, Uh dad?- -I love you dad and I care about your health-I used to smoke and one day my daughter came to me and said -daddy do you love me? i said yes i do. she then said then if you really do please stop smoking i want you to see me graduate and give me away when i get married.the smoking is going to take you away from me then she started crying. i quit that day and i never touched another one since, and that was 13 years ago. I seen her graduate she is not married yet. just talk to him. it is a hard thing to quit.nothing you can do or say to make him quit until he is readyGood luck.
My dad smoked about a pack to a pack and a half a day.
He died 2 years ago.
I tried to get him to quit, but he didn-t feel it was a risk...Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.buy him the book called the easy way to stop smoking by alan carr, its very effective!!!tell him you want to start smoking (but dont really) so he worries about you enough to quitTell him that it-s affecting you and you would really like it if he quits. Always remind him of the positive thing that come when you quit smoking. Tips for the cravings would be to have lots of snacks around the house for him to munch on. My dad smoked the same amount as your dad and he finally quit and is glad he did. Good Luck.two a day isn-t bad , at least it-s not 20 ,
try getting him to cut back , one week have two , the next have one , week after that have a half of one (all with the aid of patches gum etc....)2 a day doesn-t sound like much of an addiction. A friend quit smoking for the woman that would become his bride when she allowed him to smoke cigars. He now goes through several cigarette sized Cohiba-s a day.
For comparison, 2 alcoholic drinks a day isn-t an alcoholic. 2 cigarettes a day isn-t a smoker.
You could ask him to quit, which actually worked for my mother when we nagged her for long enough. My father-s cut back to only smoking his pipe in the evening after dinner. (He-s been smoking a pipe for over 50 years.)
But at two a day, I wouldn-t worry about it. I-d focus more on prodding him to lose some weight, get a gym membership, exercise is a surprising to relieve tension, which might help him not to want to smoke as much.
Asking him to smoke outside, make up any excuse you like, will usually cut down on the amount he-s smoking.
