Stopped smoking a wk ago but now eating for ten! How to stop? -

smokeI quit a year ago and went through the fridge for a while - put weight on but now am losing it again. My mate is a Medic and his advise was quit smoking first and deal with the weight later. The key thing is to quit the smoking - that will do you more good than anything else you do.
I did find chewing a nicorette after dinner (fruit one) did suppress my urge to graze for a while, I guess it was like that cigarette after a meal that tells your body that eating is over.Give yourself a chance,come on now,a week.Congratulations,deal with one thing at a time,youve done the hard bit.Heres my support just for you [i am a trachea] so dont despair,DONE IT,AGAIN CONGRATSWell first of all, well done for stopping smoking.
As far the eating, try to motivate yourself to either:
Eat less, the easy option.
Do some Cardiovascular Exercise - this will get rid of a lot of the crap that goes into your body :)
Good luck.The drugs and toxic chemicals in cigarettes act as an appetite supressant which you have just removed from your body. You-re going through a temporary rebound right now. Make sure you eat good nutritious food and not junk, that will just make the situation worse. Give it a little while longer then start to get a grip of it, asserting to yourself that you do not need the extra food you are eating.Cut out sugar, foods with sugar, alcohol it has lots of sugar. Soft drinks sodas in fact anything with sugar.

Keep your insulin level steady; when this spikes your desire to smoke will increase.

Drink sour drinks eg lemon tea, black coffee lots of water.

Go to the gym to loose some of the weight you have put on. If you go on a regular basis your endorphins will kill the craving (not all the time) for some hrs after exercise.

When you feel the desire to eat have a drink.. Chew on a carrot have some celery. Tell yourself your not going to be defeated. Stay away from people who smoke.Kiss your husband 100 times a day.Don-t worry, eat. The fags are more dangerous than the food.
After 6-12 months the cravings will be under control and you can start to work on reducing your weight. Think long term and be positive. It does work and with a good mindset you can do it quicker.
Think positive and remember IT-S THE FAGS THAT WILL KILL YOU THE QUICKEST.

I packed on 40 pounds in 2 1/2 months when I quit. Try to eat non-fat things. All I craved was high carb/sugar.It-s normal I quit 4 months ago and had the same problem. Everyone said I should eat veggies and fruit, but that-s easier said than done. I found sunflower seeds very helpful in this area. Don-t worry about eating, just focus on not smoking. You-ll be glad you did.
I also joined a gym after a month of not smoking and that has helped a lot. Good luck.
