How can I stop smoking? -

How can I stop smoking? -

I have gone for 9 days without even a puff on a ciggarette, but I need a ciggarette now more than I ever have, what shoud I do to keep up the good work and remain smoke free?9 days is good, maybe sleep through it, eat something, do anything you can to take your mind off it, turn up the music real loud and dance around, or drink a big glass of water.
Think about why you quit. For me, when I quit smoking, I would just smoke when I got that craving and it reminded me why I quit. It smelled bad, made my teeth hurt, made me cough, made my clothes smell, and gave me phlem.
Good LuckI-m going to say this as nicely as possible. Don-t be a stupid **** and take 10 years off your life for your own sake as well as your family and friends. Ignore the cravings, do something to take your mind off it, my Grandfather died of Oseouphagus and Liver cancer 3 years ago because he was a smoker, dying at only 67 years old. My father was a heavy smoker until a month ago when he quit, I am so proud of him, if you want your family to feel the same about you don-t go near the things.

A massive well done on the first 9 days, it will get easier, the first part is just so hard for your body to get used to. Good luck, and please. Don-t smoke :(Replace the cravings your encountering now w/ something positive, like water, carrot sticks, Blow Pops ... When the craving is at its most intense, get your mind off it w/ a walk. Congrats on getting past those 1st hard days and keep it up!exercise and drink plenty of water. Eat fruit and stay happy! then more exercise and water until results outweigh the urge to smokeSuffer at it. Don-t buy any more. I stopped 7 years ago and after the first 2 years it eased off. ever will go away those cravings. Willpower to youHave you tried chewing gum? That-s what people say. Sorry, I-m not a smokerCongratulations on your 9 days. I have been in your shoes, I was a hardcore, over a pack a day smoker for a decade. My boyfirend also smoked and we lived together. Here-s what I did to quit (I did all of these simultaneously after some failures because I figured I could use all the help I could get):

1. I went cold turkey from nicotine day 1, the body gets over the physical addiction within 72 hours if you do this so theres no need to prolong the pain with gum or patches
2. I made a drs appointment and he gave me Wellbutrin to start, it wasn-t working so I went back and he gave me Chantix on top of the wellbutrin (I quit for good 7 days after starting the chantix)
3. I bought an e-cig with non-nicotine cartridges this helped me when I had a major craving (see www.njoy.com) I no longer need to use it :-)
4. I spent hours online researching all the anti-smoking stuff I had avoided as a smoker. I saw numerous quit smoking videos on youtube.
5. I dedicated my quit to my grandmother who died painfully of lung cancer and emphysema. I also dedicated my quit to peoples stories I read who had died.
6. I tried a hyptnotist at our local community college. It was a cheap group session (some can be expensive) While I wouldn-t say this totally did it for me, it wasn-t a waste of my time or money either because it helped me to gain confidence that I can quit!
7. I exercise which has helped maintain my moods
8. I used an online support group called freedom from smoking

It took a month of me quitting before my boyfriend finally quit. My best friend quit 3 months after I did. I won-t lie, it was the hardest thing I-ve EVER done even with the meds and support, but I am so proud now. When you quit NEVER FORGET IT GETS EASIER! Your mind will lie to you and try to trick you into smoking, and thats the evil of addiction. It might take months, but it does get easier.

I quit 10 months ago and would never go back. It is so easy now to not smoke. I rarely ever think of it, and I think of it in disgust far more often than I think I-d want to smoke again.

Good luck and please do quit. It is awful how many people this addiction has/will kill.
