What is THE reason that make you STOP Smoking? -

What is THE reason that make you STOP Smoking? -

(Smoking cigarette)Honestly, I still will have a cigarette on rare occasions maybe once every month or two - but I quit my 2 pack a day habit by deciding the relaxation wasn-t worth the cancer.I have been smoking for 12 years....I started at a really young age and regret it to this day. I am still smoking but I-m glad that you asked this question because I-m trying to find the reason that I want to quit besides I feel bad all the time. Like sick feeling.

The most unusual way I have ever heard to quit smoking is by filling straws up with honey and freezing it and then sucking on them whenever I had a craving. I have never tried it but heard from quite a few people that it works!

I-m trying patches and an inhalator, only in my first week. Having an incentive helps, I-ve just come out of hospital with blood clots in my lungs, so now I have proof that smoking is killing me and boy do fags scare me now!! Still have cravings though!Cigarettes—Do You Reject Them?

i-m a Smoker too , an i-m not gonna give you some BS answer like i have read .. -will power- .. -just stop- .. you - I know that just dont work !!

I went to my doctor an told him i was trying to Quit he gave me wellbutrin, it was made for a Anti-depressent , BUT .. when they did there studies of it , they Found that Smokers who took it Stoped Smoking after 3-4 weeks of using it, I have been using it for a week now , it-s Slowley killing my urge for Cigs. An thats exactually what it-s suppose to do. You start taking it , an slowley you will cut down on the Smokes , then Finally Stop. GOOD LUCK TO YOU !! I hope it works for you , as it-s working for me !cut down a little every week, and stay at places where you can-t or never smoked at before, it does take timestop buying thembuy some then leave them alone on somewhere u can see them then u will think whats the point u can say to them i don-t need that-s how i stoppeddont buy fagsWhen I needed to not for health reasons,1. I cut down first which should be easier now since there are so many places with smoking bans. 2. I would occupy my mind off of smoking by either being around people who don-t smoke, lollipops or sweets. Tell myself how nasty it smells and think of everything negative about it. put an ashtray next to u that has cigarette residue and smell how nasty it smells and know that-s how your hair, clothes, and etc. smell.Cut down slowly, until you are having 1/2 ciggie in am and half in pm. Then stop doing that.will power, I gave up that way. what ever you take, you still need will powernew medicine out called chantix but u need a prescription from docI do not smoke... but a Dr. told me that if you put on the patch and start eating dum-dum suckers to ease your mind from wanting to actually smoke the cigarette it works. I am sure it is hard to do anyway. That has got to be hard to try and quit something that you are so addicted to. I know this is not much of a comparison but, I would die... if someone said I cant drink diet coke anymore.Ignoring the obvious health benefits of quitting, smoking may be symbollic of something important in your life (or childhood).
For some people smoking gives the illusion of freedom, rebelliousness, self-confidence, creativity, stress release or simply having a smoking break.
This image may have been reinforced when you were younger and the advertising/cinema was full of smoking as -cool-.
Smoking also creates chemical changes that promote addiction.

Ask yourself (1) what benefit you get from smoking and (2) how you can get the same benefit in another way
(e.g. find other ways to relieve stress, have a break etc.)
It does not help to replace smoking by another addiction!!!

Other people have given some great tips for quitting AND it helps to understand the underlying illusion - chemical addiction. The determination that you want to stop, Willpower and the patches or alternative, just to help you through the bad times.

GOOD LUCKhave strong will and stop them , and avoid staying in smoking areas. and know will that u will face a hard times first and then u will be fine . remember the people who stopped smoking ,to have enthusiasm to stop it and to know that u arenot the first one to do that, my father stopped 4 years ago thank god and he didn-t come back to it and believe me HE IS SO PROUD OF HIMSELF BECAUSE HE COULD QUIT IT.
GOOD LUCKthe patches are really very good they really do work but you do need a little will power and try to avoid being around smokers for about 2 weeks support and praise from family also helps GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU SUCCEEDthe way I did it was to spend the money on something else (in my case a car) then if you start smoking again it is like it costs you twice as much. it worked for me, I now drive a rather nice merc and have not smoked for 14 years. It all depends on why you want to stop ,you have to think of that reason every time you want to smoke ! If it is the money remember how much it cost every time you light up and work out that cost per month and per year etc . If it is for your health then remind yourself of the damage that it is doing to your body ! If it is for your appearance then look at other smokers and see how grubby they look at how it ages them and how their clothes smell and hair and breath smells etc . Why do you want give up ?eat them and know how it taste and do not smoke again!Personally speaking, if nothing else worked for you, COLD TURKEY is the next best thing! It WON-T be easy but after you get through the first week you-ll realize that you CAN do it! When you feel like smoking, you need to do things like chew gum( it changes the taste) or get more involve in a hobbie, think about whether or not you want to end up with the PERILS of emphysema. I had a family member who had to wheel around an oxygen tank.Smoking cannot be ceased immediately. For a starter, try reducing the packets of ciggarettes smoked everyday. Drink plenty of water and get yourself plenty of fresh air because your lungs might have already been congested. Go see a doctor to have a chest x-ray done to see how your lungs are. The doctor will prescribe you with some anti-smoking gum like Nicotine gum or patches to reduce the temptation in smoking. Never ever get a hand on a ciggarette when people are smoking around you. Secondary smokers have high tendencies of having lung cancers as well as first hand smokers. Go online and start searching for more anti-smoking articles. I-m sure they help you alot. And if you believe in God (from whichever religion), try not to smoke as it is not healthy. Hope this helps.I can only share what has worked for me Iam 50 years old and to quick smoking 24 years ago was an expirence I was pregnant with my first child I couldnt breath I had no idea I was pregnant i walked into a steam room and that did it for me i couldnt smoke after that it hurt too much i later found out the baby was soo big pressing on my lungs .Oh i desparatly wanted a cigaret but i stuck to my promise I made myself that I would quit for the benefit of the baby who is now a terrific soon to be 25 year old . Girl the apple of my eye I couldnt be prouder. You got a tough road ahead of you I drank tons of cold water cried alot and I sucked on ice cubes coinstantly I did have a picture of a baby with a gas mask on and smoke all around that helped me i didnt want my baby breathing dirty smoke so i gave it up It doesnt bother me any more the craving is gone good luck . also im told the doctor has a remedy to quit try that id my method doesnt work for youstart drinkingThere are two well and tested ways to stop

1) Stop lighting them
and if that is too difficult for you
2) Carefully submerge the cigarette you are bout to smoke in a bucket of water for 30 seconds and then light it, or die tryingWhen I quit my theory was to make myself hate smoking. So, whenever I wanted a cigarette I smoked two. i basically overdosed myself with nicotine on a continual basis and made myself sick. For the last couple of months of my smoking career I was up to about 2 and half packs a day. When I finally did quit it was kind of a relief.

That was 7 years ago, without a single puff.My hubby quit with the help of nicotine patches and lots of sweets! Also had to find something to occupy his hands whilst relaxing - I-ll leave that bit to your imagination. He has mangaed to remain abstinant for ten months - I am very proud of him, he used to smoke 20 a day! Good luck. You need willpower.or perhaps visit someone with lung cancer.Better hurry before smoking ban comes in next summer. Make plans to buy yourself something nice with the money you will save. Patches might help. How I gave up was....... I had decided that I didn-t want to smoke anymore so planned to give up in the new year.... after a heavy drinking and vomiting session (sorry.....) at Christmas the cigs just tasted AWFUL so I stuck a patch on, the next day I missed the -hit- at the back of the throat.......... you know what I mean. the delicious drag............... so I bought an inhalator. I have been off the cigs for nearly 10 months now. I also met a gorgeous new fella who is a non- smoker so that helps........ I am still tempted to have a cig occasionally but I have come so far now I just wont give in....... ONCE in the early days I succumbed and had just 1 ciggie I enjoyed every lung full, and afterwards thought -ok that was good but I still don-t smoke-...and have never had another, it-s almost as if you have to change your way of thinking... it is easier to think I have had a smoke so I may as well buy 10 more...... then that is your attept at quitting stuffed........... the down side to my story is I have put nearly 2 stone weight onJust STOP!!! thats what i did!!!Just stop/i blv that if u really want it you can quit it.
otherwise try to smoke 5 packets one day, the next you will have got sick of it and u ll never want to smell it again...i heard that from a doctor so..?When I quit 3 years ago, I finally wanted to quit. I had the will power to do it this time. I used the patch just to get through those first couple of days. I ate alot of hard peppermint candy.
It-s tough, not going to lie, but it is well worth it!!

How long does it take the body to start healing after stop smoking? -

I have gone two days now without a cigarette. I am on the nicotine patch which I suppose helps rather than plain cold turkey, for the physical aspect.

My question is, does anyone know how the body starts to heal in stages? For example, in the first 24 hours, my lungs are starting to heal. Or my skin starts to get more oxygen and shows clarity. I believe this will help me (and hubby) in this endeavor in a mental aspect. I-ll have something that I can use to mentally keep us on track of the benefits of quitting.

Any websites of facts would be great. Thanks all. From the American Lung Association....

Be sure to wander around the links on the left of the page as well
The links about smoking and women are very surprising to most folksIn 12 years, from the last cigarette you smoke, the lung tissue will replace itself, but the tar will always stay on them. Even one day of not smoking will start to improve your breathing, as the mucus starts to loosen up and you will begin to cough it up. Also, your capillaries will start to generate more oxygen throughout your body, improving your skin and overall function of your vital organs.I dont think they ever heal, as you have already inflicted most of the damage. When you quit you are mostly just stopping the process of your rotting/burning lungs and minimizing the chances of cancer. I might be wrong but good luck quitting! Good choice, and it-s nice that you are doing it with someone else for support.

Edit: All I know for sure is that the blood in your body will regualte better once you quit and will be distributed to the nerves and stuff in your hands and feet where it wouldn-t be going if you were smoking.
