Ive tried everything to stop smoking - nothing seems to work...? -

any suggestions?

thanks so much

Michel in Montreal Quebec CanadaNew medication available by rx is Chantix. Works great!Nothing can make you quit (being -scared- into quitting by cancer or emphysema patients, gums, pills, patches, etc) unless you are determined to quit yourself. Once you have made up your mind and are 100% committed to quitting then, and only then, will commerical products assist you in quitting. Here is what I did:

One day on the way to work I was coughing so hard (while smoking) that I almost blacked out. I could have wrecked and killed myself or someone else. I smoked one last cigarette and said that was it. The first 2 weeks were tough but after that it got easier each day. It has been 5 years now and I have fallen off the wagon occasionally (my weakness is when I am drinking). So quit and expect to have setbacks but trust me...you will feel SO much better. I can-t even explain it. Plus, you will hopefully be around a lot longer. GOOD LUCK!There some new medicines on the market that you can get from your doctor, sorry i don-t know the name of them.Try Laser therapy.

I don-t know if they have anything like this in Canada, but a few locations in the U.S. have it.

See my source for information on it.My friend went to a hypnotist with her Mom and sister to stop smoking. It worked for her Mom and sister but she still smokes. Two out of three seems worth giving it a try.Good luck!do things that you like to get your mind off of it(hobbies, sitting down with a good book, whatever you like) and get rid of your lighters and matches.....and just stop. You-ll be moody and sick for a week or so but you get past it after you-ve had all that crap out of your system. I can breathe a little better since I-ve stopped smoking. If you really, really want to quit, the accupuncture in the ear is supposed to be very successful.A smoker always keeps a fool in the front and sucker at the back....i took chant ix and it really worked ,but i found that when i stopped i started to get the urge again so i got another perception 100.20 dollars but worth every Pennie!Use the Gum that is what my mom is doning and it is workingPersonally, i think that if you put your fingers up your rectum before having a cigarette then the smell may put you off smoking for life. Either that of just have the courage to quit - ok you will be a proper grumpy sod for a while but hey at least you will become an old grumpy sod.You have to WANT to stop smoking. I was a smoker for 10 years. One day I woke up and quit. Changed my life, I started exercising and feeling great everyday! You have to keep telling yourself that you don-t want to smoke and it-s an addiciton that is running your life. I used the Commit Lozenges too when I was quitting. They take away the cravings which helps you quit. The only way to stop smoking is to do it when your ready. Subconsciously you may not want to quit, so until you get over that hurdle even hypnosis probably won-t work. My grandmother got emphysema and still continued to smoke while she was on an oxygen tank. Her excuse, she smoked all her life why stop now. So nothing will make you quit until YOU tell yourself to.Sit next to your grandfather when the lack of oxygen in his blood from the lung cancer he has slowly kills him...that-ll do the trick.

I agree that moving helps. You want to avoid your old friends and get away from any temptation. If you get depressed when you stop, see a doctor and get a prescription for an antidepressant. A support group can also help. Not so sure about treatment, I had a friend who went into detox and was smoking two weeks after he came back, but then nothing is guaranteed -- you have to get to the point where you really want to stop.Move away from wherever it is you are. If your not hanging out with the same social networks, that-ll help.
You probably have a addictive personallity, so direct it to something else less harmful. Seek help.get help. I-m being serious. Get professional help. I-m sure there-s lots of support groups out there that can help you. Bottom line: STOP! I know it will be hard but you have to do it.by putting it down

i have joined several of health programs that help you stop smoking; nevertheless, no effects on me. what can i do.I quit smoking 6 years ago with hypnosis. If you want to try the same, I have 3 suggestions:

1) Find a hypnotist in your area to whom you can relate. For example, if you are a church-goer, try to find a Christian hypnotist.

2) Start eating healthier. A good diet will support your physical system while your body adjusts to the changes. And there will be physical changes!

3) Give yourself a break - don-t worry about any extra pounds you gain. They-re a lot less risky to your health than smoking - you can lose them later.

Good luck!
NancyI think smoking is harder to quit for some than others. I have been smoking on and off for about 17 years now. I am a real light smoker for the most part. I have been a little sick so I have not smoked in two weeks now. I am usually about a pack a week smoker. I quit for two years at one point, but went through a stressful situation and started again. I tend to smoke em if I got em.I know the first thing is is that you really must want to quit to make it work. I went to hypnosis three times. The first time I stopped for about 3 months, the next time I stopped for about 9 months and the last time I have stopped 8 years. I think the money I spent there was well worth it and looked how much I have saver in the cost of cigarettes. Wish I had never started. I was a heavy smoker and smoked about 40 years. If I can do it anyone can. Mind over Matter.I-m afraid you have to answer that question on your own.

I tried quitting too, three weeks ago. Cold turkey until I went to the club. Now I am smoking again. I-m not that disappointed in myself, I-m only 22. I will try again soon.

Keep trying and trying I guess. Nothing can be done in one try. Takes effort and determination. Good luck. One thing that helps is just starting to slow down...

What i did was completely stop buying smokes... Which we both know is a money killer, depending on how much you smoke...

So don-t buy any and you can-t have any... But if you see one just ask the person for one... If they say no, there you go... If they say yes, well they ain-t gonna give you more than one...

Slow down, then one day just quit it...my mom has been smoking since she was 12, she is now 47 and quit smoking three months ago, she read this book called The Easyway to Quit smoking. She hasn-t even craved a cigarette since. She also told my grandma who read it, and she hasn-t had one eithermain goal is to get support with wanting to quit..
dont buy them anymore.
use the patch, turn to god for help
eat the gum..
find a better healthier tihng to replace it..

other than that youve got to decide on how its best for you1800 quit
