I have been smoking on and off for over 10 years. I would like tips from people who have actually stopped smoking. I have tried suckers, gum, and patches make me sick. I am soooo tired of smoking! YUKBeen there, done that! CHANGE YOUR ROUTINE! This is what worked for me. Instead of lighting up after after a meal, brush your teeth or go for a walk, do something that encourages deep breathing. If you light up as soon as you get into the car, chew gum or chew on a plastic straw, this is what I did. I washed all the curtains in the house and upholstery and brushed my teeth a lot. So, there was no longer cig odor. In two weeks the craving should be gone. Start walking/aerobic exercising and drinking lots of H2O to avoid the weight gain, although expect a few pounds. But, exercise will surely help. Take up a hobby to keep your hands busy, e.g., knitting, crocheting, painting, etc. After a while, most ex-smokers cannot tolerate the smell of the things. When you want a square get a bunch of gum in your mouth and find something to do to take your mind of the craving...healthy eating habbits, lot-s of water .exercise , and maybe a nice little hobby and friends that support youExcersize everytime you want to have a smoke, go for a jog, go to the gym.I just quit Sunday. So far I-m doing all right. I had some strong urges the first three days but it-s getting better. I agree with eating right and exercising. I am not a smoker, but it sounds like if you go on the Zone, or any other moderate protein, low glycemic, good fat diet it will help cut the cravings as well as keep the weight from packing on.There are many types of medicines that will help u....and y would u eat sucker and gums?is it the medicine kind or the junk food one?Have sex every time you have an ergeHere-s an easy way. Reprogram your mind on how it stores fat in the body, by using hypnosis. Go see a hypnotherapist in your area and have them make you a CD or Cassette tape of the session with them and listen to it for 30 days. You would include a stop smoking session w/ reprograming the mind to release to fat out of the cells, which is uneeded by 40 %, this way you would loose weight by doing this.
Also include exercise to speed up your system. This will make you vomit AND stop you from smoking, since lighting up a ragged half-eaten cigarette is no fun at all. Seriously though, just stop. It-s that simple. Alot of people substitute their smoking for food, and that-s why they gain weight. Also, smoking can speed up your metabolism, so when you stop, it slows down. But exercising will help speed it up, and eating properly will ensure your body is working properly. You need to be very strict about this, or you will gain weight. Also, as a distraction, try eating sunflower seeds- peeling away the shell keeps your hands busy.
