Maybe you could ask yourself what mood swings, and the purpose of your smoking, ie. to relieve what kind of stress, or have what kind of satisfaction ? Also, are you a social smoker, or a heavy smoker ?

From my personal experience, the best way is to encounter a loved kin diagnosed with lung or stomach cancer, and start to know the treatment experienced by the patient.

So personally, the solution i recommend would be: Call up a smoking hotline to get consultative advise instead of prescriptive advise, and volunteer your time to visit a hospital every week, in the cancer wards, esp. the lung and stomach cancer patients.

Gestric and duodenum cancers have links to smoking. Lung cancer is a risk.

Smokers will really -enjoyed- this kind of method to remove smoking habits. You get to know what it takes to be a care-givers, and you have to be a care-giver, then the smoking habit will be kicked away, naturally.

I attest to this method as one of many other effective methods, because do you notice one thing:
- any cancer patient who got cancer, he/she usually stops smoking after cured ?
- doctors generally do not smoke, as they witnessed many cancer patients
So either personally harmed by cancer, or alternatively, through empathising the pains, one can kick away smoking easily and naturally.I agree with Health bird (thanks by the way .. I-d forgotten the author-s last name!) This book was pretty amazing and when I quit smoking I was just a bit sleepy the first day with a mild headache .. but afterwards I was fine ..

basically what the Carr book says is that we CONVINCE ourselves that our bodies are reacting to lack of cigarettes, as an excuse NOT to quit ..

well it worked for me. I put the book down at the end and just didn-t smoke after that.

Well it worked for 2 years .. recently I got into a bad relationship ad that was my excuse to start again .. sigh .. now it-s as hard as ever to quit .. I-m wondering if I get hold of that book again will it be as easy as it was the last time.

Give this book a shot ... it-s the most painless way to quit.impossible i went on a detox and it made me have terrible mood swings for about 2 days but i felt great in a week.good luck and lock yourself away for a few days when you do it.Read Allen Carr-s Easy Way to Stop Smoking.

This is the best thing you will ever do for yourself!I just recently quit smoking. I used the patches, but first I stepped down smoking on my own. I went down to about 3 cigarettes a day then I went to the 14mg 24 hour patches for 6 weeks. Worked like a charm, I-m off the patches and everything. Now I take allot of B vitamins to help with energy fluctuations. I-m still alittle irritable from time to time but all I do is take a deep breath and remind myself that its just a neurochemical response to a lack of repeated chemical exposure. The bouts of irritability are short lives and mild at best. They last anywhere from 15 seconds to 3 mins. I feel so much better now that I-ve quit.
As far as flushing your body so to speak. Try drinking allot of water. I drank 3-4 liters a day , on top of eating as much fiber as I could get my hands on. The fat soluble vitamins helped (Vitamins E, A, and K). My lungs flushed themselves out. Took a good 3 weeks of coughing my brains out but now they work as if I was 3 years old again. Try a good multi-vitamin. and double up on Vitamin B12. Hope you do well.I quit, cold turkey. The Nicotine really is only in your system for 3 days, after that the cravings are more about the habit, not physical addiction. During the 3 days I suggest that:

1. don-t cheat at all (it only adds to the suffering by increasing the time for the nicotine to leave your system.)

2. Surround yourself with situations that don-t cause yourself to want to smoke. This can be hard, but for example, don-t drink if you smoke a lot while drinking. Drinking alcohol can also lower your inhibition and make you think you should just smoke anyway. If you have the time, use some work vacation days maybe. Anything that will keep your mind off of the smokes.

3. Find something to release the negative tension in a healthy way (this is good for even after the first 3 days). Anything that you can do when the cravings get really bad to release stress. A punching bag is nice for this. Also, some quick push-ups, a stress relief ball (one you squeeze in your hand) etc...

4. MOST IMPORTANT. DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!! Water is essential to flushing substances out of the body. Drinking lots of water will really help the body get rid of toxins like nicotine.

Good luck, it-s hard, but well worth it.
