I am looking for good suggestions to stop smoking? -

hi, i wish to quit smoking, i have tried numerous times with no luck.. Ive tried the --book--, patches and cold turkey and found myself smoking more when i went back on them. anyone any good suggestions. i would like to kick the habit for goodkeep the patches and try chewing gum when u want to smoke.
dont go out for a fag break at work and dont hang around with people that are smoking.
set an aim like saving for a new car or a holiday and write down your progress. thats how my friend quit.

below are some other things to think about

smoking stinks
you can smell it on your breath and on your clothes and furnature.

smoking is expensive! if u give up smoking and save the money u would usually buy cigarets with you will have a couple of thousand in the bank and think what you can do with that!

smoking is bad for you it causes cancer and heart diese
you can get lung cancer from someone who smokes even if you dont. you are damaging the people around you as well as yourself

your kids are more likely to have health problems like asthma if you smoke.I quit a month ago. After smoking for 16, I was finally sick of it. I guess good motivation is what you need. You have to truly want to quit. I have tried to quit 4 times before with no luck. You just really have to be ready. Not doing it because you know you should, do it because you really want to. Then when your ready, get a plan going. I started with the patch, but only used it for like a week until I got sick of looking at it. I made major changes to keep me busy. Notice when you want to smoking; after eating, getting in the car, talking on the phone. And then you will realize why you are wanting it. It will pass after less than a minute.

I started exercising. Any time I want to smoke, I go on a walk, do some sit ups, push ups etc. I also started getting up in the morning and started running. Its amazing how good you start feeling after a few days of opening up your lungs.

I made myself really negative about smoking. Noticing how bad it stunk and telling people around me (friends only) that they stink haha :). Washed all my clean clothes over so they didn-t have anything lingering.

Have a good support system, that doesn-t ask you everyday -hows it going?- Just people that will come and get you to hang out, go on a walk, watch a movie etc.

Try to keep your stress level down. And if it goes up, be strong, you can do it. They say it takes 2 weeks to create a habit, so create a good habbit and you can do it! I dont even think about it anymore unless somebody brings it up. I know I was just ready to be done smoking.

I took the extra money I would be spending on the smoking and put it into a savings account to get my teeth whitened, and go on a vacation at the end of the summer.

Good luck to youI had a moderate habit and quit when I was on Wellbutrin, xyban is the name when it-s used to quit smoking - insurance should cover it. A friend of mine who had a heavier habit quit with acupuncture--she hates needles and figured she only wanted to go through it once. Congratulations on your decision and good luck!To be honest the way that i quiet was this. After 14 years of smoking a pack a day. I got on my knees and said -Lord if you don-t want me smoking these then you will have to take the desire from me.- that was it. I have never smoked a cigarette since and I had no desire, no cravings for them and never wanted one or anything else. It was just done like that.

I-m still really in awe of that because I tried so many times with no success.

It-s been 12 years since I stopped.Well, from one smoker to another. I-m still trying to quit, but I had a good 6 months of success with this method:

wear two rubber bands around your wrist . Not tight, Not really loose either. Those thicker blue ones work perfect. Always keep water on you. When you get the urge to smoke, pull back the rubber band and let it snap your wrist, it will hurt like hell. When you get the urge to smoke because you saw someone else smoking, pull back both rubber bands. Your mind supposedly starts to associate the urge with pain and the urge goes away. The water is to start the process of detoxification. Best of luck~I am doing the same, I have smoked for 20 years :( this is the 9th year in a row I have gotten bronchial pneumonia and I made a promise to REALLY quit. I have tried it all hypnosis, the patch, etc nothing has worked long term BUT the chronic bronchitis and feeling of suffocation due to the reactive airway disease had scared the crap out of me so it is day 5 and it-s hard but every time I want a cigarette I remember what it felt like to not get any air into my lungs. I wish I had listened when I was younger because cigarettes are slow suicide and I only hope to stop anymore damage to my lungs, GOOD LUCK and you aren-t aloneask your doctor for champix-they-re tiny little pills that block your nicotine receptors in your brain, you smoke on them for 12 days then you stop its like you have never smoked though you keep taking the pills for as long as you feel you need to-i stopped taking them after 4 weeks-its mad how they work do have side-efforts mind insomnia, constipation were the worst i got, you may get nothing some people don-t. Good luck.I know it-s hard but you have to keep trying. If you smoke when you don-t want it rather than when you feel the urge it helps somewhat.
I cut a plastic straw in cig size pieces and chewed on that. Find things to do to keep yourself busy and keep your mind off of it
I wish you the best of luck on kicking such a nasty habit.Nicotine is the most used and most addictive drug on the open market. Nicotine is more powerful than Heroine.

Increase the time between cigarettes. Keep track of the time between cigarettes and increase that time gradually. This is a real time conscious method to give your emotions a good feeling for -right now- results and success. Once you achieve a high number try to stick to it for the next cigarette. Hold your course.

Commit to smoking less with a 30 day Calendar plan. A calendar plan has a number on each day that is the maximum number of smokes for that day. Make the plan easy. Reduce by one cigarette a day. Set the targets on the calendar plan on day one. Then each day keep track of the success.

If you smoke a pack a day. Then a plan will look like this.

Date Target # Success
1...............22...............22
2...............22...............21
3...............21...............21
4...............21...............21
5...............20...............19
6...............20...............19
etc.....counting down 1 cigarette per 2 days.

Switch brands: lower tar and nicotine cigarettes.

Find someone else to quit with. Just tell someone you-re quitting and ask if they would like to quit together. Form a group at work.

Clean your body with exercise, a good diet, and herbal purges. Walmart has herbal detoxification pills. ie. Colon Cleanse.

Change your diet. Cut out the meat for weeks at a time, and increase vegetables. Meat is good for us but not in the quantities we eat. Meat contains chemicals and hormones that accelerate the metabolism, having a steroid like effect, causing people to be animalistic rather than humanistic.

Learn relaxation methods. Smokers reach for a cigarette to calm down. Find other ways to relax. Walking fast outdoors 30 minutes is very calming.

Self hypnosis is advanced and the benefits are great. See a psychologist to learn how. Self hypnosis is always available, and it-s free. Self hypnosis may be used for many healing and progressive things.

Intervene the habits. If you drink and smoke at the same time, then you need to quit drinking for a while. Two habits prop each other up. Mix up your routines to avoid the association of the cigarette with the routine.
Let-s say at work you go out the back with the other smokers. Don-t go out back. Go out front, you-ll resist the cigarette better.

Avoid places where people smoke. Avoid people who smoke.

Be honest with yourself. Keep track of your progress. Count the number of cigarettes each day.

Reward yourself for success. Invent a milestone reward. Each 10 cigarettes less, then do something to feel good about it. Tell someone and keep them informed on your progress. Stick to the plan.

Never give up. You can beat this. Stick to the quota. If you can-t keep the plan start a new calendar plan, immediately, with realistic numbers. Stretch out the plan a little. Allow a little flexibility.

Triggers: Remember, people reach for a cigarette for many reasons by habit. A stimulus initiates the response. Bad news, conflict, disappointment, things may trigger a person to reach for the cigarette. Learn your triggers and resist them. Develop other responses to the triggers. You know the trigger when a cigarette pops into your head. Think about what just happened before the thought.

Good LuckAccept God in your life. No one can help you more than having faith in God. Don-t let this win. The devil is trying to get you to poison your lungs and if you get sick, even hurting your loved ones will happen because you won-t be around for long. Take into consideration that maybe people will be so proud of you for quitting, and don-t let smoking control you. Control it. I know it-s hard. I smoked for two years, and I-m only sixteen, but I quit because I saw my loved one die over the summer, seeing as smoking is so vindictive in its own way. It will lead you into a life that you don-t want to lead. Just think every day how proud you will be when you finally do quit and how happy you will be with yourself because you beat it. Get suckers. Take walks with someone when you feel a need to smoke. Also talking to someone who lives with you when you feel the urge to smoke may help..

It-s not an easy journey.
It-s hard, but you-ll be so proud in the end.
Take up something productive that will help your health,
but don-t quit cold turkey. Cut down every day,
then one day you-ll find that you won-t want one anymore,
and everyone will be so proud of you.
It-s worth it! :)As some research showed the most effective way to stop smoking is a combined use of acupuncture (NADA protocol) and support/educational groups. If you have more questions, I can forward you few articles. You can reach me at yuliya@lightTouchAcu.comSmoking is an incredibly difficult thing to give up. My suggestion for you is whenever craving a cigarette, instead of putting the cigarette in your mouth, try a piece of licorice, or do something you enjoy, such as running or working out. Get your mind off of the cigarette.

Good Luck!Hey Andy

I-ve tried about every method there is out there.
and i can recommend only one - NLP!
gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me as well not to mention cold turkey which is the hardest, i even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
check out this article

it-s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD :)
Good luck kicking the habit!
J.first of all, you should have someone support you cause it is hard. maybe pick up a hobby or something to keep yourself busy so you wont think about it. there are websites that help you determine what is the best way for you to quit. i dont know any right off hand, but you can google it.
:)
wish you luck.hmm... if you said cold turkey didnt work, you could try to cut down more and more each day, and if you want to quit, keep fighting the urge to smoke and eventually you-ll be able to quit with no problemtry hypnosis. my mom did it. i think it was about 200 bucks though. then she just did it cold turkey after her right lung collapsed. the doctor told her to stop smoking so she did. you just have to stick to it. good luckgood tutorial for stop smoking

What would taking Yaz birth control and smoking combined do to me? -

When I started taking birth control a few years ago I had stopped smoking. However, recently I started smoking again. Only a couple of cigarettes a day/ every other day. Well, I know the effects of smoking, but it just popped into my brain that Im on birth control now?! Also, Im a very healthy young person if that counts. My friends couzin died from using the Yaz birth control. She got a blood clot in the brain she was only 17 years old :(
Dont mean to scare you;;You-re not entirely healthy if you-ve started smoking again, sorry to break it to you. Anyway, you can get blood clots that can travel up to your heart and/or lungs. This can cause a heart attack! It-s nothing to take casually...you really should quit.Smoking on birth control increases your risk of blood clots and stroke.

Gum Disease - How can you stop it? -

Gum Disease - How can you stop it? -

I have been told by my dentist that I have gum disease. I am a smoker and he has told me in no uncertain terms that I need to stop smoking. Apart from this is there any other way that I can stop it in it-s tracks. I have used Corsodyl mouthwash but from what my dentist says it doesn-t appear to be having much of an effect. Is stopping smoking the only way to stop me losing my teeth? Also my old dentist always used to ask me if I was heavy with my toothbrush. Could this have something to do with it?As soon as a person opens there mouth, I can tell if they smoke. Nasty smoke residue builds up on corners and, MOST AWFULLY, in huge piles right behind the front teeth. Brushing DOES NOT brush away cigarette smoke because it hardens into plaque.

It-s detrimental to your oral health to smoke and you are foolish to not head his warning. We don-t have the -smoke talk- with every smoker who walks into the office, so consider yourself.... lucky? Or just really in need of serious help.

Quitting smoking is hard, but you will be so proud of yourself once you are on the other side. I know because I-ve had to quit! Be strong and DO NOT BACK DOWN!!

Your teeth are on the outside, what do you think is going on inside? I-ve witnessed a million cleanings and none is as awful as the heavy smoker. There is blood everywhere! Black blood! I see blood and barf all day, but that is truly gross.I have lost several back teeth due to gum disease and what finally got rid of it was a combination of three things. Several appointments with the Hygienist for deep cleaning (below the gum line - quite painful but effective). I bought a new electric toothbrush and used Retardex toothpaste and mouthwash. I haven-t had any problems now for about four years. Stopping smoking would also help and with benefit your health as a whole. Yes, being heavy handed when brushing can make gums recede allowing bacteria below the gum line.Try soaking your mouth WithH2O2 - 3% as buy from store.

Each use: Rinse mouth with plain water, may also use tooth brush, throughly rinsing the mouth, before starting program.to break up pockets of bacteria, throughly rinsing the mouth, before starting program.

Start with H2O2 dilute with plain water
say 50/50, gradually work up to full strength.

Hold the Hydrogen Proxide (H2O2) in the mouth several minutes each time.
You should be able to feel like needles pulsatung in the gums, as the oxygen penitrates the gum surface. Continue this at least twice a day.

Doing this til next appointment with your dentist, I beleive you will have very postive results.
Another thing can do: Instead of commercial toothpaste;
Mix together Baking Soda with 3% H2O2 (small batch, as need for the brushing), may wish to add a drop of flavor, essential oil, to take the bland taste away.
Nothing inthis formula will harm you in any way.my sister was told by her dentist that she had been over zealous with the brushing and had taken some of the enamel off her teeth ,so that could be part of the problem , she was told to use a soft to medium brush and sensitive toothpaste, stopping smoking will help and it save you a fortune too..when you brush your teeth. ( if you do ) brush your gums aswell. you should stop smoking aswell because it ruins your gums and makes them weeker against disease.i was told there is no way of stopping it, it-s just gonna slowly rot all your teeth away.
but i dont know if its true.
and i also think its genetic...
