Stopped smoking 4 days ago, I now feel like death warmed up? -

how can I cope? I dont want to start again but I dont know what to do! will I ever feel better and healthier?Yeah, it-s going to be a rough week. Just tough it out. Your body is coughing out all the crap that it is used to having in its lungs. It can feel like a really bad cold. When you get past this, you-ll be healthier than you were two weeks ago. You-ll get rid of that smoker-s cough and actually be able to breathe again. In another month, you-ll be able to smell better too (I meant your sense of smell, but I guess your odor will improve too.)

Let me take a second to warn you: This is a constant battle. I used to think that people who were -alcoholics who have been sober for five years- were full of crap and fully recovered, but they are right--the problem doesn-t go away. I quit smoking for over two years, had a bad weekend and bought a pack to get by, and became a smoker all over again. Don-t have another cigarette! Ever!Yes, you will feel better! You are going through withdrawl. I felt like crap when I quit and it is just part of the process but well worth it!! Just keep pushing on and don-t give up. You CAN do it!!Control yourself. After few months the temptation will go off. Have some fennel seed coated sweets when you feel warmed! I was a chain smoker for 15 years and my will power helped me to get out out of this habit. Now I-d completed 5 successful years, and never again. Feeling is good now..Stop going for parties for few months, where you get tempted again.Stay the course...and read this often:

What happens after you quit smoking...

Within 20 Minutes...
Blood pressures drops
Pulse rate drops to normal
Body temperature of hand and feet increases to normal

Within 8 hours...
Carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
Oxygen level in blood increases to normal

Within 24 hours...
Chance of heart attack decreases

Within 48 hours...
Nerve endings start regrowing
Ability to smell and taste is enhanced

Within 2 weeks to 3 months...
Circulation improves
Walking becomes easier
Lung function increases up to 30%

Within 1 to 9 months...
Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath decrease
Cilia regrow in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean lungs and reduce infection
Body-s overall energy increases

Within 1 year...
Excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker

Within 5 years...
Stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker 5-15 years after quitting
Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat and esophagus is half that of a smoker

Within 10 years...
Lung cancer death rate about half that of a continuing smoker-s
Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, bladder, kidney and pancreas decreases

Within 15 years...
Risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmokers

I wish you the best of luck!best thing you have done is giving up that s**t keep going u will feel better also take up some regular exerciseDEFINITELY........ You are not going to die from a horrible lung disease now, if you keep it up !!!!! If you really have a problem fighting the craving, buy some nicotine - gum and reduce this slowly, day by day. Best is to seek advice from your GP/ District Nurse, if really you cannot cope..........WELL DONE so far, Good Luck.You-ll be fine! You will feel better and you will feel healthier I promise. You just need to go through the withdrawls. Everytime you want to smoke, drink something (alcohol probably not the best thing when stopping another addiction). Water, juice, milk, soda, ANYTHING! Or go participate in some activity that does not allow you to smoke, like going to see a movie with friends. Go jogging if you are feeling antsy. But I promise you will be fine! You will fell better soon you are going through the withdrawal stage , persevere it will be so worth it and you should feel so proud of yourself ..

Good Luck !! Think of all the money you`re saving ..An amazing thing has happened to me. I have smoked for 40yrs
like most smokers l knew it wasn-t doing me any good, and have
tried on previous occassions to quit, with the help of nicotine gum
and patches,to no avail.Last Thursday I was browsing the Amazon
site looking for a particular book (nothing to do with smoking) I found a book and CD by Paul Mckenna titled - Quit Smoking Today
Without Gaining Weight, it was half price, so I bought it. I opened the
book on Monday afternoon, listened to the CD, and l have gone
from 40 a day to none, and I feel great,it-s unbelievable. still have to
listen to the CD once a day for 2 weeks. Try it.Good for you!!!! don-t give up now, you can do it!!!
giving up isn-t easy, but you-ll find that after a couple of weeks it gets better, save the cash you would have spent on Cig-s and at the end of the week, give yourself a treat, Keep up the good work! YOU CAN AND WILL DO IT!! Congratulations! You have to go through nicotine withdrawal but you will come out the other side.

These answers you have are full of support for you. Don-t give up we believe in you.

Good Luck!My dad gave up smoking by using the nicotine replacement patches. He also ate whatever he wanted. He put on alot of weight, but it helped him stop. You could try nicotine gum as well. Just don-t start again. These next couple of days will be the worst but it does get easier. Just think how you would feel if you didn-t give up and then developed lung cancer and had to go through chemo, I think you would feel worse!Since smoking is an addiction you cud try Rehab or acupuncture. Also try nicotine gums.I-ve seen friends go through this, you-re still going through withdrawal.

Soon enough when all traces of nicotine are out of your body you will no longer have the cravings.

Good Luck!Distract yourself, got somewheer where you cant smoke, that will take your mind off it and you dont see people with ciggys hanging out their mouths. Its all in the will power. You feel like death warmed up because your body was relying on nicotine for stress relief and you are suffreing from what is known as withdrawl symptoms.
Good luck, go for it, only you can do it and I wish you all the best.treat yourself and incorporate a bit of exercise if you can. maybe a shopping trip? you-re doing really, really well - it-s a very hard thing to do and you should be very proud of yourself.

if you can motivate yourself to do something physical it would be really good for you, it-ll release endorphines and hopefully tire you out so you can fall asleep and not think about the evil cigarettes xxxhi i quit nearly 3 weeks ago and my god is it hard !!! mt fella has been takin me somewhere nice as atreat every weekend i havent smoked but i am losing the craving now and startin to feel healthier!!!well done , im in the same boat, give up two days ago, i know its hard just try to take it one step at a time, dont think about next week just think about conquering the next fag that you wont have. Thats how im going about it any way.

How do i stop smoking when im out drinking, i dont usually smoke but seem to want to when im drunk????? -

There is only one way. You have to make up your mind 100%.

If you find thhis difficult, promise youself some sort of treat if you manage to stop smoking for a month, no not a packet of silk cutThere are far worse consequenses of getting drunk than the odd ciggie-s detrimental effect, injury to self from -accidents- or by others objecting to your innebriation and behaviours. Higher risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases etc etc ...

Plus of course the immediate and long term damage caused by abuse of alcohol ...

Go Well ;-) ...When you go out drinking, try to occupy yourself with something else. For example, place a straw in your mouth when you start craving cigarettes, This will help with the oral fixation.Unfortunately nicotine is a swine of a drug. It attaches the craving element to the enjoyment element of alcohol, so as soon as you lift that first pint and enjoy it, the craving kicks in.

You-ll need to have a fortnight off the grog to break the psychological need for a cigarette. Then introduce alcohol slowly (don-t go out and get smashed), and do so in a smoke free pub or with non-smoking friends. Eventually you should be able to do it.Don-t drink with smokers.
Don-t get drunk. The problem is the alcohol. When you-re drunk it-s hard to worry about quitting anything.

Best way to stop smoking.? -

Best way to stop smoking.? -

ok,whats the best way to stop the habbit?
with all the help of the stop smoking patches and stuff,do they really help?
thanks. The absolute BEST way is quite honestly COLD TURKEY. The reason is...it takes 72 hours or 3 days for all the nicotine to get out of your system and once you live through those three days then it-s just mind over matter as your body-s NEED for nicotine is gone. The patches, gum etc. anything with nicotine in it and the -tapering off- just prolongs the agony of nicotine withdrawal.

You have to replace that -bad habit- with a good one so be prepared BEFORE you quit....and know what you are going to do INSTEAD of smoking. Remember the average -craving- lasts 3 minutes.

I used whatever it took to get through the first 2 weeks, sugar free suckers, licorice root (you can buy at the bulk store usually) to chew on, sugar free gum, tic tacs, and believe it or not straws the extra tough ones that come in drinking boxes (I chewed through about 7 of them and just keep cutting off the chewed end) and you can also -inhale- through the straw and then slowly exhale. Drink a ton of water, now instead of smokes and a lighter I carry bottles of water with me everywhere.

I also learned how to knit to keep my hands busy, you could do crossword puzzles, circle words, Suduko puzzles, or some kind of manly crafty thing like leather working or wood burning I suppose....

Also I downloaded a little counter from the site I posted below....I was so determined not to have to reset my counter back to zeros I wouldn-t have another smoke!

Good luck, you-ll need it.....but trust me when I say looking back from the other side it is SO WORTH IT!!

In three days you-ll start to notice how bad smokers really smell and you-ll think OMG I used to STINK like that too, in 2 weeks when you run your tongue over your teeth they won-t feel like they have fuzzy slippers on them anymore....and if you can make the 3 week mark without slipping at all......I believe that the statistics for maintaining the smoke free lifestyle are about 60% for those that can make it to the 3 week mark!

GOOD LUCK!

One year, ten months, four weeks, 8 hours, 28 minutes and 34 seconds.
13947 cigarettes not smoked,
Saving $4,602.53.
Life saved: 6 weeks, 6 days, 10 hours, 15 minutes.I smoked from the age of 15 until 2001. At that time I was tired of smoking. Had quit for a couple of months a couple of times. Tried the patches, relied on them to stop me. They didn-t! In 2001 I decided LORD if I can make it pass that first cigarette in the morning I-ll have it made. That was 4 years and 6 months ago. I-m 58 years old.start drinking. . . just joking. seriously, you have to change your behavior and sometimes your friends or hangouts as well. cold turkey works for about 1 out of 5 smokers. i know someone that did it because i told him it bothered me. get some gum, some mints, and something for your hands to play with, like a mantra, or a stress ball and get to it!!!!!You should try it out if you really want to stop smoking.Cold turkey is the only way to REALLY quit. The best way to stop smoking is not to go cold turkey. Start to decrease the amount of cigarettes you smoke a day .Until you get to none.example the first day you only smoke 9 cigarettes, then the following day you only smoke 7 cigarettes. it decreases the amount of nicotine you get a day. and also helps your body get use to no smoking at all. If you know that you will have a urge to buy a new pack . Try walking around with less amount of money so that you can only buy one pack or none at all.Try that nicotine gum. And don-t buy anymore.cold turkey
http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/how2quit.htm
It is mostly about if you WANT to quit...Alot of people swear by the patchescold turkeyI tried everything it never worked for me ... one day i drunk cold fresh milk in the morning that put me off smoking ,made me feel sick .. that really worked since then i drink fresh glass of cold milk every morning and its nearly two years now i never smoked ... try it might help you too... good luckWatch that commercial with that old lady smoking from her throat! j/k....
Try those classes at the hospitals.First of all, no method will work unless you want to stop smoking. I-m not sure there is a -best way- for everyone. There may be a -best way- for you. Let me give you an example. My last cigarette was June 15, 1983 (after 20 years of a pack and a half per day average). At the time, the big anti - smoking campaign was an advertisement with the statement: that -every cigarette is 7 minutes off of your life-. I accepted that and realized that I was committing suicide - 7 minutes at a time. So I decided that, on the next day, if I wanted a cigarette, I would have to kill myself. To make a long story short, I chose not to have a cigarette then; and still haven-t (-cold turkey-). I also decided that I could not even have one - because I was a non-smoker; and non-smokers do not smoke. At first, to ease the pressure on me, I promised myself no cigarettes for 15 minutes. Then I would lengthen the time to half hour; then to an hour, and so on.

I-m not saying it was easy (it wasn-t), but it worked - for me.get a girlfriend or go have a child with someone. doing for someone is great motivation, you will want to live a long and happy life for themjust be strong and put it downrun about 2 miles then add a mile everyday for 2 weeks . when your done running you will hate smoking.cold turkey. i did it, you feel like shite for the first week. but this is the week when your body craves nicotine the most. and then day 8 arrives and you dont want to smoke anymore. just dont eat junk, candies and buy fruits and other healthy snacks. you wont be hungry , but the desire to put something in your mouth will be so great you will begin to eat. plus at that moment, food begins to taste spectacular because your taste buds are recovering. in a month if u didnt picked up a cigarette, you know you did it. in six months you are not even thinking about it and in a year, you stop coughing blood, flem and you feel better. i did itWell I quit 13 mths ago....it wasnt easy but I got thru it...the 1st 72 hrs or so were the worst for me (physically)...I started with the nicotine patch and gum,but had allergic reations to both...so I then tried a herbal based patch and it worked great...it really cut down the cravings I was having and Ididnt have any reactions...they worked out to be about the same price of the nicotine replacement products....also I was a smoker for 27 yrs and had never tried to quit prior to this time...alot of it after the first few days is really more mental than physical....especially if youre using nicotine replacement stuff...it also helps if people who are close to you...even if they smoke....are supportive of what you are trying to do it will help your morale in fighting the battle of wits between you and a smoke.....good luck if you finally decide to try and quit ...Jsut quit COLD TURKEY almost every one in my family stoped smokin cold turkey they said it was easy they said that they got craving but whn they walked into there house they almost gagged the smell was so nasty and it can make ur family so much happier and u just dont do it anymore so ye just try it!!!!The only way I could quit was to do it cold turkey. Personally I think all the patches and gum do is prolong your habit and make you addicted to them instead. If you really want to quit then just quit. The first 48 hours are the hardest but once you get past them its not that bad. You have to change your daily routine as well. Smoking is not just about the nicotine, its the habit itself, the oral fixation or whatever you want to call it. I still chew regular gum and that helps me sometimes. You can do it if you really believe you can do it. Willpower is definitely key.i used the commit losengez. It worked for me and helped better than the patch or the gum, it was an immediate reaction to the cravings.Eat fruit in the beginning. Hang out with older people that sound like they are going to hack up a lung. Put stinkbait on your filters!!!!!!!yes..the patches do work and u should also try buying dum-dum suckers or CANDY cigarettes instead
