Have you stopped smoking cigarettes? -

Have you stopped smoking cigarettes? -

I really want to....I have for a week at a time. If you-ve succeed, can you give me some hints on how to take your mind off the desire to smoke? I made till 4 pm the other day...then I was jonesing really bad.I know people who took that new pill and they loved it. They said it has some type of Welbutrin in it which is good for depression, so they were happier, they didn-t eat like people do when they quit and some even lost some weight.

I took a smoking cessation class through my work once. It never took, but they had good advice:
Change your habits. Usually smoking is habit related, ie while you are on the phone, during a break, etc. So if you don-t do those things you won-t think about it as much.
Keep your hands busy. I know a lady that carried an orange with her to play with.
Drink orange juice. Supposedly orange juice takes away the cravings. They said to have OJ next to your bed when you wake up if you are the kind of person that rolls over and lights up in the morning.
Chew gum.
I think the biggest thing is trying to remember (and convince yourself) that a craving only lasts for 3-4 minutes. If you can make it past that, you should be OK, at least till then next time!
And here is one that I thought was funny. Put your cigarette in between a differet set of fingers. Like instead of index and middle, do middle and ring. Once you become comfortable doing that switch to two other fingers, then switch hands and start over.
Last but not least, I was told that nicotine only stays in your body for 3 days. After that, it-s all psychological.
I hope any of this stuff helped. Good luck!!!!I have never smoked a cigarette a day in my life.... and I am glad.

This past February, I lose one of my most favorite clients to lung cancer. She was dead within 6 weeks of diagnosis. She had been a smoker. She left behind 2 children....and a husband.

I can not for the life of me figure out why people do this to themselves.

Please quit.TRY CIGARS....THEY ARE BETTER AND YOU DON-T INHALE.I quit cold turkey too. I did get a mild anti-depressant from the doctor. Kind of took the edge off in the beginning. It-s easy to stay off the cigs cause now I have money in my purse all the time.Try with the patch. I was a young kid when a friend turned me on
to cigarettes. He told me to inhale the smoke and I almost choked
to death. Never inhaled one since so I never got addicted.
I-ve done a pipe and cigars but never inhaled those either.
I guess my advice to anyone reading this is to stay away from them but if you do,do not inhale the smoke.I still smoke, but I noticed that when I-m online I don-t smoke. When I read I don-t smoke. (I read alot). Try getting a hobby. It took me a long time to quit (and I didn-t smoke that long). If you were to ask my doctor, he would tell you that I was a smoker. If you were to ask a real smoker, I was not a smoker. I did a pack a day for about two years. Marlboro lights. What got me off of smoking was Skoal smokeless chew. I would advise you not to go smokeless because that is worse than smoking. What got me off of chew was a product like chew that was made of mint leaves and had flavorings in them. It was still chew but it was NOT tobacco. There was NO nicotine in it. It was basically candy. I have not seen the product for a few years and do not know if it is still out there or not.

If you cannot find it, try some sugar free candies. The sugared ones will give you cavities. You will be eating them constantly. You can do it, I know you can. If you slip, that-s O.K.. Just start again. Keep trying and look at all the money you will save. Good luck.i stopped smoking when my lungs hurt every time i inhaled cigarette smoke. did it cold turkey. i do buy cigarettes to put into my potted plants, the nicotine kills the bugsI quit when I found out I was pregnant.Sorry, I haven-t been able to quit yet.i smoked for 26 years and stopped cold turkey in october.... if i can do and my husband did the same thing in january... we both quit cold turkey
the gums and patches don-t do anything its a waste of money... YOU CAN DO IT

i am 16 and a heavy smoker i need then to feel good and stop my self form cutting which i used t do frequently as i have depression induced from aspergers disorder please give reasons and be practical because if your not al that will happen is me cutting and feeling worse. Also if youre trying to scare me by saying ull die of cancer that wont help because one we all die and i dont care how i go and ive tryed killing myself before and ended up in hospital trust me it wont work i wish it wouldThe reasons cigarettes work for you is because nicotine is a natural anti-depressant. You need to replace that with another one, one that is healthier for you. If you take it away altogether you-ll cut again, which you-ve already figured out.

Go to you doctor and tell them that you need an anti-depressant. They actually make one for people who have been self-medicating their depression with nicotine. Ask for Wellbutrin. After a few weeks on it you-ll start to lose your desire to smoke, so cutting down and quitting will be much easier, and you-ll be able to to it without the desire to cut.

Good luck!okay i understand you saying we all die and that is nothing to be scared of. but smoking is one of those things that are just not healthy to depend on physically and mentally. get some help, see if you can find the root of the depression. if it truly is caused by the aspergers ( which sounds like an excuse because i know people with this disease who are not depressed but the aspergers may be making your depression worse) there are things to help with aspregers.. medicines procedures. talk to your parents or at least some one. there are other options besides smoking... personally i will never touch a cigarette if they were tried to be passed by the FDA today we wouldn-t be able to touch them in the package with out hazard suits on ehh... no thank you.Just stop! Get help from a doctor and they can help you. Do you know what smoking does to a young body like you? It turns it into a train wreck that-s what! It has Carbon Monoxide which is found in most rat poison. So your basically putting rat poison in your body. It can also change your behavior and people might not want to be near you. Listen I don-t even know you and I fell really bad for you please STOP smoking!!! Seek professional help!!!Please help your self and others. If you want to feel good about yourself, to have a good feeling while just existing, then having good health helps a good deal. If your body is healthy then you feel good in your mind, or at least you are better able to handle any duress which comes your way. So you should stop smoking to get your health back, both your physical and mental health.I will pray for you. Try to pray for yourself, I don-t know if you were raised in a Christian family but it doesn-t matter. There is no format for praying just start talking to God, he can hear you. Watch for the path he provides for you. I am recovering addict, so all I can say is take life one day at a time. And really try to pray every day, you will be amazed at how much better you feel. Once you start to gain confidence in the Lord then you can tackle the little things in life like smoking. It might be hard to stop smoking but it will be better for your emotions and self-esteem in the long run as well as your health. I suggest consulting a doctor about quiting smoking and a psychologist about your emotional issues. Good luck!listen im not gona lecture you `but if u are still depressed and u need something to help you through that period , i would say --no dont stop-- but if ur trying to kick the habit change your life style make some improvments be happy with like - then kick the habbit.just stop smoking and find professional help like a mental doctor it worked for me I had depression for 6 monthstry going to rehab or therapy.
if youo die youll hurt everyone around you
drepression a\can be treated
you just have to reach out to the right peopleyea dude , u shud stop, i used to smoke but realized that theres nuttin gud comin out of it, trust me at ur age, if u smoke ur not cool, grls dnt dig itGet thearpy...talk to your parents, friend, teacher, neighbor...someone.i think that by you quiting smoking is a huge step on accomplishing other barriers in your lifeim 16 also but i dont smoke you should stop its not good for ya man and i feel dorry you got urseld into itwell yeah it would be better for you . try to clear yourself of ANY addiction you have and go see a doctorstop smoking!Duh..just stop smoking get a job and smoke A LOT of pot till ur out of collegeWell first off. Who buys your cigaretts? I-d say that if you do, you-d go broke in just a little bit. But my husband got cancer from cigaretts. He at first got a sore throat. He went to a Dr. He looked at him and said, you have throat cancer. I-ll send you to Morgontown and they will have to cut your tongue out. My hubby went there. They decided to Use radiation. They put him in a radiation room. They slit his throat first. Did some surveying. Put a lot of needles under his chin. About 15. Then he was told to stay there for 3 days. They put some kind of screen up so the nurses wouldn-t get affected by the radar. If anyone was pregant. They were not allowed in the room. The family was only allowed to stand behind the screen. Well on the fourth day the Dr-s. came in looking like something out of space. They took them out. He was checked every month for 3 years. He was ok they said. We were of coarse happy. Then in the 4th year. He started coughing. He went back to the Dr. They took exrays and he had lung cancer. He started on chemo and radiation again. They give him blood. All kinds of meds. But he continued to cough. He told them he wanted in the hospital and not let him out till his cough was rid of. They didn-t. He died.Again that age old Stop Smoking advice ... I would say forget about stopping smoking. Smoking is not a crime or guilt. You rather smoke with complete dedication, love and emotion. Because that smoke helps you. Smoke slowly, enjoy every step of it, from taking ciggarette out watching it, then putting it in mouth, then smoking it as if you are singing or enjoying. Make it a Meditation. U can search online about Smoking Meditation by Osho.
But also try doing some breathing exercises which will not only cancel the harmful effects of smoking but make you more positive. This is small place I can-t explain in detail but believe me those exercises helps curing mental and psycological problems and also physical problems, I am sending u video ,,, watch with patience till 57.00 minutes ,, it will tell some amazing exercises, after 57.00 there r some special exercises which u need not to do ,,, but watch this video 2 to 3 times for first time before you start to make sure if u r doing correctly or not ,,
and for 1 week watch it once everyday and do exercises while watching it..
and any problem in understanding then feel free to e-mail me ,, here is the link

Tonsilectomy and Smoking.? -

Tonsilectomy and Smoking.? -

On November 4th 2009 I had my tonsil-s removed, I was asked by my mother to stop smoking for my sugery. They never told me when i could start back smoking. It is today November 11, 2009. When do you think I could go back to smoking?your good, surgeys heal quickly if they are done on the head, because blood is always circulating thorugh your headAs a smoker myself, I know how hard it can be to not smoke for that long, but as a medical student, I also know how dangerous it can be to smoke so soon after a throat surgery. I would suggest waiting another week; it-s only been a week since your surgery, and you-re probably still experiencing soreness. Cigarette smoke not only will NOT help with your soreness, but will also put you at risk for developing a secondary infection - definitely not worth it. In the meantime, perhaps try a nicotine patch or something of that sort to ease the cravings. I hope this helps. Good luck!If you are stupid enough to smoke, smoke em if you got em.
