How can I get my dad to stop smoking when he doesnt want to? -
I-m 16 and I grew up with both of my parents smoking. I had an asthma attack when I was in kindergarten, and my dad told my mom that they could only smoke outside. Well, that only lasted a few weeks and they started smoking inside again. My mother stopped smoking a few years ago and she gets really annoyed by my dad-s smoke. He smokes at least a pack a day, and it-s really bad for him and us. He-s been smoking heavily for at least 16 years, probably a lot more. He gets up a few times each hour at night to smoke..He just realized yesterday that he might addicted to cigarettes, but my mom and I both know that he has no plans of stopping. What are some ways I can convince him to stop? I already have a very serious health problem besides asthma, and I don-t want anything to happen because of his smoke.Sounded like my dad. After my mother had her heart attack, he went outside. He should respect your mother-s wishes and yours. I have asthma too. Spent a lot of my time in a hospital room getting treatments. Did it stop them? No. My mother smoked until she had her heart attack. The time it took her to realize that life was more important stuck. She was on oxygen and spent more than five days on it. She couldn-t get off it without gasping for air. Dad, spent his time cleaning the house of ash trays, cigarettes, and the smell of nicotine. My father smoked until he found out he had cancer of the brain, lungs, adrenal glands, and serious asthma. He stopped too late.
Your father will not listen to you. Smoking is an addictive problem. He has to decide whether or not to smoke. You-ll continue to have asthma as long as he smokes in the house. Your mother and your health will falter. You-ll get sick more often since you-re inhaling second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous.i have the same problem, but i tried praying, and it doesn-t work on him ( it-s working on my mom ) because God gave us free will, and nothing can alter your will. My mom wants to quit, therefore prayer works. So basically, you cant do anything.
I don-t have asthma or any respiratory problems, unfortunately, i don;t get off luck I get ridiculed in school for smelling like smoke.Well, you can always talk to him. Or have your mom say if you don-t stop im leaving you. even tho you guys would have any plan to leave. My mom threatened my dad that if he didn-t stop smoking that we where gunna leave him. GUESS WHAT. he stoped.Well first, try having a conversation with him. Tell him, calmly, that he needs to consider stopping smoking because it is hazardous to both of your health. If he refuses to even give it a try then you may want to consult with your mother about having a talk with him.
If neither of those work, then the next thing you can do is that whenever you see him smoking inside in the same room as you, leave that room. If he asks what you are doing simply state that he is smoking and you don-t want his irresponsibility to affect your health as well as his.usually i just give answers like -it-s his choice not yours- and so on but in this case i-m very surprised. your father is careless and irresponsible. smoking is fine when it harms only you but if you start smoking in front of your teenage daughter who has breathing problems then that-s a problem. not necessarily with his habit but with his personality in general. he puts his habit before his daughter and that is very selfish. i say you tell your mother. your dad could at the very least smoke out side and repaint/re carpet the house.
