For a friend. Sorry if it is too common a question.Stop buying cigarettes and stop lighting them up.Keeping faith in yourself and try to chew gum not the gum thats suppose to help you stop smoking because it doesnt work tell him to try to chew on something like gum, sunflower seeds anything that will get his mind off smoking. Its a hard thing to do for sure its not easy but hey think about all the good things that would happen if he didnt smoke.TELL HIM TO KEEP FAITH IN HIMSELF AND I BET HE CAN DO IT :] BEST OF LUCK TO YOUR FRIEND!!!!!Tell him to wake up with this video in the morning:

How much tar is in my lungs after a year and a half of heaving smoking? -
How much tar is in my lungs after a year and a half of heaving smoking? -
I-m considering stopping smoking weed after heavy smoking (all day every day) for about a year and a half. Is there any tar buildup in my lungs? And is there any permanent damage to my lungs?its possible that there is some damage that may not be detected later in life. Unlike the kidneys which heal themselves in a way if you just automatically stop drinking. I think its a good decision to stop smoking. May God see you through this journey as you put away the smoking addiction.Approx 85L / month if you smoke about 20 cigaretts / day

There probably is some permanent damage, but if you really do stop now then probably not enough to make that much of a difference in your life. How much tar is in my lungs after a year and a half of heaving smoking? -
I stopped smoking 18 months ago after pneumonia left me struggling to breath? -
I stopped smoking 18 months ago after pneumonia left me struggling to breath? -
2 days after the onset of pneumonia I was given a nebulizer, and during the inhalation period of about 30 minutes I noticed a localised dull pain in the centre chest about 10 cms down from the throat. The pain continued for several days leaving me with a slight difficulty in exhaling which was not present before the nebulizer treatment. I also feel a slight pain in both lower lungs if I take deep breaths. My doctor say-s that I have some damage due to smoking, but I told her that this problem was not there whilst I smoked, it appeared shortly after nebulizing. I stopped smoking as soon as I contracted the infection and have not smoked at all since Jan 2008.
The restriction in exhalation seems to originate from where I had the pain and not the lungs themselves. It it possible that some damage was actually caused to the urt causing the exhalation problem ? My doctor has not mentioned emphsema. I can run the treadmill and ride the excersise bike at the gym for more than 30 mins at quite a fast pace without becoming wheezey or having shortness of breath.
Any views on this woulb be most welcome.
Thanks in advance
Alan.quite frankly nicotene dulls pain. it-s also likely that you-re noticing these problems after you stopped smoking or it-s from the pneumonia. Any damage from the nebulizer should be gone after a week to 1 month unless other complications inhibit it.I stopped smoking 18 months ago after pneumonia left me struggling to breath? -

Radiotheraphy treatment,and smoking? -
my sister is due to start her treatment next week,6 weeks of radiotheraphy, she still cant stop smoking im so worried about her because since her diagnose of tongue cancer in jan,(shes had to wait till now for the treatment)the cancer seems to have gone bigger, she tells me do you think the effects of radiotheraphy will put her off the fags? Her throat will be very irritated and it will be very painful if she tries to smoke. She wont feel like eating ,let alone smoking. The biggest concern would be trying to keep her from smoking after she has healed from the radiation. The side effects of radiotherapy would be enough to put anyone off. However, smoking causes multiple problems during and after treatment.
1. It may slow the healing process from side effects
2. Continued smoking may make radiotherapy less effective at curing her cancer
3. She will continue to put herself at risk of second cancers of the head-neck/lung if she-s cured of this tumor
4. She will have a higher risk of stroke after radiotherapy and smoking will only make it a higher risk.
I always encourage people to quit smoking, but it-s hard enough to get through radiotherapy that I don-t usually badger my patients, and too much family pressure to quit may be counterproductive at a time that she needs your support. If she-s motivated to quit, great. If she can cut back, good. If not, then onwards to treatment and hope for the best. She probably won-t feel like smoking. Chemo and radiation therapy are very draining on the body. If they are doing focused radiation therapy on a tumor on the tongue, the smoke may cause additional irritation, resulting in her to decrease or cease her smoking habit.Radiation treatment may cause mouth sores, difficulty swallowing, and a metalic taste. She needs to to quit smoking, try the gum or the patches or hypnosis, or all of them.In a recent study, 72% of participant-s mouth cancers were caused by the STD called HPV, not smoking. HPV is the virus that also causes cervical cancer and is thought to be connected to most anal cancers. It has been found that the majority of mouth/throat cancers are caused by the STD HPV, especially the HPV strain 16 and 18, although there are many others dangerous strains of HPV.
Smoking, alchohol and smokeless tobacco can irritate the area making it take longer to respond/heal, but the majority of the cancers there are not caused by smoking, alchohol or smokeless tobacco.
During the roughest part of treatment she will not be able to take much of anything by mouth, including cigs. If there-s no physical contradictions, her doctors can prescribe a medication called Chantrix that will end her smoking if she doesn-t stop after treatment is over.Radiotheraphy treatment, and smoking? -
Can someone please tell me what is the best quit aid to help me stop smoking? I need help? -
Can someone please tell me what is the best quit aid to help me stop smoking? I need help? -
what is the best quit aid?I personally don-t trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. I tried several times to quit using patches, gums, herbs etc but none of these worked.
Whatever you do, don-t resort to drugs. Chantix especially. There are so many horror stories it-s ridiculous. See the link below for some such stories.
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.
Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.
Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good QuittingEither the gum or the patch is the best way to deal with the nicotine withdrawal. They will substantially decrease your cravings.
For most people tapering down the -fidgeting- habit of actually holding the cigarette while in the car, etc, is one of the hardest parts of quitting. For this, buy a pack of Carlton cigarettes. They have 1mg of tar and .1mg of nicotine (vs. 15mg tar and 1.1mg nicotine for a normal cigarette).
It-s practically like smoking air, but it will give you a cigarette for the fidget-part of the habit until you can break that as well.
The logic to this two-part solution (gum and Carlton-s) is that you want to get your nicotine satisfaction from the gum and not from the cigarette. Your brain knows that minutes after smoking a normal cigarette, you get a nicotine high. By breaking this connection (ie. smoking the Carlton doesn-t really do anything anymore) you can hopefully discontinue the cigarettes altogether and then taper down the amount of gum you chew until you-re completely clean.
Cut down as much as possible without going insane. Even just smoking less and smoking lighter cigarettes will go a long way towards improving your long term health.
The very best quit aid is your brain! You need a reason to quit and then you need to be strong and responsible for your actions. All the gadgets in the world will only help as much as you let them. IT all starts in your mind and falls to will-power. Keep telling yourself you are strong enough and you can do this. You might live a week or two of feeling like hell but that has to be better than being a failure at the task.
Day I went into labor with 1st child (1st grandchild) my father stopped smoking cold turkey after 30 years of smoking. He just stopped with no other aids but his self. See I would not allow him to be around the baby and make the baby smell of cig. smoke. He had a reason and the will power and it worked. Since then he has not had one cig. in over 17 years. The first two weeks were like living with cybil but we all made it through it, and he is healthy and happy to be a grandfather.Hypnotherapy is a good way to help with stopping. A hypnotherapist will go over the reasons why you want to stop and why you don-t feel you can or why you think it will be difficult. Then s/he can address those. There is some info about hypnotherapy below.well i don-t kno an aid but the way one of my good friends stopped was by putting all his cigarette buts in a bag and whenever he wanted to have one he took a wiff of that and it changed his mind...that smell would deffenitley change my mind too...give that a trytrust in yourself that you can do anything what you want to,and also believe that nothing can stop you from doing that i think that-s the best wayMost importantly WILL POWER, but prescription Chantix has been very successful for some of my friends and family membersDo what I did......... I watched my Dad die in hospital with lung cancer. You will soon find what it takes to give up.........willpower, nothing else, just willpower !in the end, i say that plain gum is the best. Can someone please tell me what is the best quit aid to help me stop smoking? Does Smoking inhibit your ability to dream? -
Does Smoking inhibit your ability to dream? -
Since I-ve stopped smoking I have been having some VERY VIVID dreams.
The kind of dreams where you wake up in the morning and say -WOW weird!-
Just wondering if nicotine can actually inhibit a persons ability to dream, or is it more to do with the absence of stimulants in the body which allow a deeper sleep?Perhaps not inhibit per se, but suppress your ability to remember itno maybe alters your ability to rememberNo, actually nicotine has the opposite effect, it creates vivid dreams. I-m guessing that the dreams you-re experiencing are a side effect of nicotine withdrawal.Does Smoking inhibit your ability to dream? -

How to quit smoking? -
so i have been smoking for about 4 or 5 years on and off but now i want to stop .. i dont want to take pills or chew gum. and i def. do not want to wear a patch! so do anyone know a quick easy way to stop smoking?I quit smoking after 12 years but I used the patch. I had tried a few times before that too but this time just stuck to it. I had a friend that used the gum then got addicted to it. I think that maybe the gum or lozenges may work for you but you do have to be dedicated to it. Good luck!!How to quit smoking? -
