I need something that is available in South AfricaIf you want to leave smoking, just quit it, NO IFs, NO BUTs, NO ANDs.

You just have to have will power to stand on your decision and against smoking desire.

:-)I stopped cold turkey without nicotine gum. I started running. So if you-re sporty, then get yourself fit the way you like and make sure you enjoy yourself. Because the idea of having a ciggi in the middle of a run makes you feel sick. After 3 days without a ciggi, you-re clean. You can think and feel better, and you can smell and taste better, and you don-t cough so much. Just make 3 days your target and take it from there.I smoked for 21 years, I tried patches but didn-t find they work. I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago and stopped immediately. OK so you can-t get pregnant, but I did realise that if you really want to stop, just stop, don-t smoke again. Your loved ones should be a good enough reason. My husband is still smoking and it-s driving me crazy, he doesn-t smoke in the house or near me but if I can do it, why can-t he? Like another person said, it really is self discipline, if you want to stop, then stop. Good luckwell you eat papaya. I suggest something like exercising... whenever you feel you need a ciggi, go to the gym, a jog or even a short stroll in the fresh air. What are treatment options? I have a relative with it and he refuses to get medical help for it, because he doesn-t want the doctor to tell him to stop smoking.Sleep apnea causes daytime fatigue, agitation and loss of concentration due to inadequate sleep.
Blood pressure during apneic episodes also spikes at a dangerously high level, probably precipitating stroke in those who are predisposed. Sleep apnea can be caused by taking sedatives at bedtime, sleeping on ones back, and being overweight. Diagnosis is relatively simple, and if eliminating causative agents does not help, the sufferer can wear a snug fitting mask attached to a small compressor that forces air into the lungs at regular intervals to mimic regular breathing.I knew a man that was over weight. Not extreme but could lose a good 60 lbs. Anyways, he had to have one of those tubes placed in his throat which is hooked up to a oxygen tank. So sad, he had to take this tank with him wherever he went everyday. Tell your relative that.

I-ve heard of people having to use a oxygen mask just at night to help them throughtout the night. That-s not too bad. Better than having to carry around a oxygen tank.If he doesn-t get treatment for it, he could die from lack of oxygen in his sleep. Personally, I-d rather deal with a lecture from the doctor.Unfortunately, the risks of not getting treatment are that you could die. The doctor is going to tell him to stop smoking, it-s a crazy thing to do for anyone with a breathing problem.Sadly the risks can be grave. A close friend died in his sleep from this disease. it can weaken your heart. Urge your relitive to seek help soon for this. If the doctor tells him to stop smoking, and does nothig else for him, then that is a bad doctor. Your relitive doesn-t HAVE to quit even though a doc tells him too. It would be better for him, but that is no reason not to get treated.

Sleep apnea is caused by excess tissue in the nasopharynx area that obstructs breathing when a person sleeps. Prolonged apnea will eventually damage the heart by causing it to work extra hard to get oxygen to the body. The heart will, at some point, wear out and quit. Weight loss will help too. A sleep study is recommended to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea and treatment for it. The treatment is CPAP or continuous positive airway pressure. The device is a nasal mask connected to a machine that forces air through the airway while the person sleeps. The study and the machine is not at all uncomfortable. You get such relief from a good night-s sleep/rest that you wonder why you didn-t do it sooner. Encourage him to do something about it soon.

I have seen smokers who have quit smoking for months make tiny amounts of smoke come out of their mouths by taking a breath, compressing their lungs really hard then letting it out softly. Is this really smoke? If it is then I am in trouble because I don-t smoke but I work around alot of smokers. I tried it one day and sure enough a little smoke came out of my lungs and I could taste stale smoke in my mouth.ya this is true, don-t listen to the first answerer. I have done it and many people I know do it. Im think everyone who is around smoke could do it too, so i dont think it matters how long yu have quit for.My grandson does it and has never smoked I asked him what it was he says it like when its cold outside and you breath out. He pushes hard and holds it in his mouth and lets out a puff of what appears to be smoke but it is not actually smoke.It is actually true, my husband used to smoke and a few weeks after he quit he could still bring up smoke from his lungs if he tried.What were YOU smoking when you -saw- this phenomenon? i woke up one day and realized how much i lost because of weed. its been a couple weeks and i have been crying alot for no reason and really angry. i also feel paranoid and get really severe panic and anxiety attacks. i think its the lack of thc because its just been recent. i have slipped a couple times and find myself obsessing about smoking and not smoking nonstop. if there is anyone out there who went through quitting pot and survived, i would love to hear.
oh and no -well u never should have started in the 1st place- comments. DUH.... i know... i wouldnt be stopping if i didnt realize that (i was reading some similar questions and couldnt beleive some people think thats encouraging)Were will pot take you in life,

Look, screw all these poems and cliches and b/s advice. I-ve been where you are; actually, I-m there right now...so... How do we stop? Well, we replace it; otherwise, it will return. And with a vengence. Sport? Do you play: soccer; football; racquetball; tennis; track? Any will do. It will get better. Just give it a few days, maybe a week. It sucks, but you can do it. Then, you will forget what being high was like, and marijuana won-t seem as tempting; however, always be on the lookout. Be ready for when you faulter because it happens frequently. Tell yourself you-re going to sober up until you can smoke again safely; it makes quitting less stressful. There-s hope. And a goal as well.I think you need professional help. I think it-s about 1% that actually makes it on their own.It is more of a habit-it is really not addictive. Get some that is not very good and that should do it. Marijuana in Okinawa was very good when I was there, but when I got home it was nowhere near the same, and very easy to quit. Didn-t miss it at all.I quit smoking after my senior year in high school after smoking at least 3-5 joints a day for two years. I needed weed to operate, I would get up smoke a j, go to lunch at school smoke a j, get home, smoke a j, and smoke one right before I went to bed. I quit when I came to where I am now going to school, and I decided that I was not going to look for a dealer. The first two weeks were awful, I could not sleep, I was never hungry, and I just felt like crap. After that it started to feel like I was getting more clear headed each day, and started to feel really great. That was almost two years ago, and it was the best thing I ever did. I didn-t smoke a lot, I would take a hit or two a couple times during the day just to -get out of reality-. I thought it helped me forget about my problems and relax. What I realized was that it was causing me to have more problems, ex: not thinking -straight-, saying - doing things I normally wouldn-t, being paranoid, wasting time, wanting to -party- whenever I went out, neglecting my children somewhat by not really -being there- for them, the list goes on and on. It was really hard for me to quit at first, I craved it for a couple weeks, but I started to realize how much better my life and my brain were when I didn-t use. After a bit of time, my behavior began changing -drastically- (for the better), and I think that is what helped me continue to work on staying off the stuff. My thinking started getting so much clearer, all the trouble, big and small, that I was getting into while using had stopped. I didn-t have to worry about so many things anymore. The -craziness- I would feel when I couldn-t have it stopped. I started making some really good changes in my life, I became much more responsible in all areas of my life, especially with my kids. The feelings of -paranoia- disappeared permanently. All of this and not to mention how much my health improved - my lungs and breathing especially. I smoke cigarettes (still working on that one), but the incidences of bronchitis cut down to only about once a year or less instead of every couple months and they-re not as bad - I don-t have to take -major- antibiotics to get over it now.
I decided to quit when a friend of mine said to me, -You know, Linda, one of these days your kids are going to come to you with a problem and if you-re not -completely straight- you-re not going to be able to really help them.- I think that-s what did it for me. I knew he was right.
My friend had gotten himself off of drugs - alcohol earlier. He was much more addicted than I, but he was so tired of his life being -in shambles- all the time. Today, whenever we talk on the phone, one of us always ends up mentioning how grateful we are that we were able to -quit using- and how much better our life is now, and its the truth. We joke about the fact that we don-t have to worry about getting -pulled over- any more when we-re driving and how much better we feel getting up in the morning (and going to sleep at night). We joke because it seems so -obvious-now how much better and easier life is when you-re not using. And you don-t have to worry about being tested when you go for a new job!
I hope and pray that you are able to quit. You will definitely not regret it. In a few years, you will be -laughing- at how much better you feel, especially -mentally-, and how much easier life has gotten.

you should try exercising ( i know it sucks) but if you start exercising alot and i mean alot then you wont even think about it

atleast thats what it did for me (for cigs, dont smoke weed) i wanted to quit and one day i just went out and ran non stop until my lungs where on fire and i couldnt run anymore and i didnt even want to touch another cig for the rest of the day then the next day did the same thing and so on and so on until i didnt crave it anymore

but you dont have to do exercises just do something that will take your mind off of itthis may sound harsh but it may help

do u want to be 50 and have a machine breathe for you or would u like to use ur own lungs and live a happy life..

think of the people that love u, dont waste ur life coz of a habit that can be kicked in the a*s there is so much help out there...Listen to Former chief-r. He has it pretty much right. I did what you are doing and quite a bit more. I did quit and quit all of it. It was a struggle at first. Take each day 1 at a time. Another VERY helpful bit of advise is to try to stay away from the people that you got high with. It puts more pressure on you than you need right now. You can always see these people later, if you choose to do so, but you might find that now that you are back to your sober self, you may not really like them. Anyway, try to stay clear of them for bit of time. It REALLY does help.

I do have to say it is really funny how people JUST CAN-T HELP THEMSELVES. You had asked for genuine support and advise from people. You asked people to not go down the -mightier-than-thou- road by not telling you how bad it is for you and you should never have started in the first place, blah, blah, blah and they just can-t do it. They have to get their Personal Moral Dig in. It never ceases to amaze me. It must be very tiring to be so perfect.
p.s.s. - I have no formal figures on this but I do believe that more than 1% of the stoners out there that quit on their own, without therapy and such, did in fact do just fine and quit.
Hang in there and know that you are strong and can do what ever you put your mind to. Nothing worthwhile will ever be easy. I-m hopeful that you will be able to quit and if you find you cannot stop after making a true effort, then it may be a good time to consider looking into additional help.

I stopped smoking 3 days ago. I am doing great and dont ever want another cig again.

Only problems is I cant sleep. I have tried a nice bath, milky drinks, a glass of wine exercise etc etc.

How long does this last for?these are genuine problems that occur when you leave smoking suddenly. this won-t last long. after a few days you might start to smoke again. a better way to quit smoking is reduce your smoking progressively. may take a long time, but surely will do.Try some 3 or 5mg melatonin at your local drug store. It-s not too strong, and far safer than prescription alternatives.you can try Valerian, it-s all natural and no chemicals, it will help you sleep
