Any tips on ways to stop smoking??? Preferably from someone who done it.? -

I-m a smoker, however, I-m not a chain smoker. But its still hard to kick the habit.I made rules to make it hard to smoke.
1. no smoking allowed inside the house
2.I kept my cigarettes in the car...got pretty cold smoking in the middle of the winter and trying to light that cigarette
3. chew lots of gum
4. go on the computer a lot to keep your hands busy
5. I -smoked- a pen or pencil and still do
6. Do something with your hands...like sewing, writing, working a puzzle book

I finally started hating the smell and after about 10 trials finally made it drug free....I had tried hypnosis, meds etc. I don-t miss it at all

Good luckThere are many ways to do it - and really you need to find what works for you. I went cold turkey and used the nicotine inhalers available by prescription. At the time I quit smoking, the only nict. inhalors available were in menthol. Being that I hated menthol cigarettes, the menthol inhalers helped deter me from getting hooked on the inhalers. .i used the antidepression pill wellbutrin (good if you do not need antidepressants) its what I used It kind of makes you sick to taste the cigarettes, and eventually you can-t stand to taste it, so oyu smoke less and less each day. it only took me eight daysUse sugarless mints or sugarless gums to help with stress.

Don-t buy any more cigarettes, ever! Every time you know you would have had to buy cigarettes put that money in a piggy bank with a sign on it that names a luxury item you would love to have, like a great pair of shoes or new gold earrings..see how fast you have enough saved.

Find a hobby you can engage in while watching TV or relaxing, such as puzzles, crocheting or drawing.

Exercise, it helps relieve the stress you may feel from quitting.

Brush your teeth often to remind yourself how good a clean mouth feels.

Eat fruits, raw carrots and celery as snacks. Sounds weird but when you quit smoking you may gain weight as you replace cigarettes with food, so have a -safe snack- that is low calorie. The crunchiness replaces the cigarette in your mouth.

Get a squishy ball that you can squeeze in places where you are sitting (movies, in meetings etc) No one will notice and it relieves tension.

Stay away from smokers, and out of smokey establishments, like bars, for a few weeks at least.

If you have clothing that has odors of smoke get it cleaned so you won-t be reminded of cigarettes.

Throw away all ashtrays (clean the ones in the car too).

Clean carpets and drapes so the house has no odors.keep a box of gob stoppers by willy wonka with you at all times!!
it is working so well for one of my family members; also keep some little finger foods around or in your pocket.

i hope that helps =]Studies show the more times you try to quit, the better your chances are. You can also see your MD for possible pharmaceutical options, like chantix, the patch, nic gum...etc However the real solution is to just do it!You will never stop smoking in a day,the first step acknowledge that you want to stop doing it then day by day reduce the number of cigars smoked till you get to stopping, try to stick to this plan and see the difference, all the best.

Which do you think is the best nicotine patch to quit smoking? -

Which do you think is the best nicotine patch to quit smoking? -

Either from experience in using, expertise or observation. any help would be good.

Also, what other treatments work well to help someone stop smoking?

this is actually a mother-s day gift i want to get my 50 year old mom.skip the patch and talk to the doctor about Chantix. It will be a great mother-s day gift to your mom. At 50 years it is imperative that one should quit smoking. Patches are good in reducing the nicotine craving but they do not do anything to reduce the nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are mood swings, anxiety, depression, insomina, irritibility and restlessness. These symptoms appear in varying degrees in different people depending upon the length of time they have smoked. It is vital to reduce these symptoms in the early phase of quitting so that it helps the person in staying away from smoking.

There are a number of aids available, personally I would prefer a natural or herbal remedy for 2 reasons. One, such remedy has no side effects and second it is effective.

For further information visit the following source.

Good Luck!!Nicocure worked for me, it is a patch that you wear and it is all natural.

It works different than other patches because it does not feed more nicotine into your body so when you come off of it you will not be craving more nicotine.

On their website they have they have a 97% success rate.

With reference to my last question about what would happen if everybody stopped smoking...? -

The link above is my question and quite a few answers. Some people say that a lot less people would get ill if everybody stopped smoking. Are you sure about this? Even just 20 years ago the number of smokers was very high as opposed to now, however the number of cancers and other diseases have increased significantly while the number of smokers have decreased significantly. Do you anti-s really believe that if everybody stopped smoking tonight, then in 20 years- time the number of cancers etc. will really decrease so significantly? If everyone quit smoking, the government would probably go belly up. The money they rake in daily is unfathomable. On the health side, I-ve always maintained that smoking is like everything else in life: some people can do it, others can-t. I-ve smoked for over 40 years, but I-m still athletic and rarely get a cold. My father and grandfather smoked and lived long, healthy lives into their 90-s. I-m aware that smoking has been cited as one device that is driving up health care costs. The other, and more recent demon, is obesity. But, if our civic leaders are so concerned about the rise of medical costs, why are they so generous in giving it away to illegals? I live in Arizona. The yearly cost to taxpayers is 6 billion dollars a year to uninsured illegals. Kinda makes you want to light up, doesn-t it?Yes, the number of people dying from smoking related cancers would obviously fall. Smoking is a killer, and we are very, very sure of this as there has been extensive clinical research over the last half century. Don-t forget, there is no such thing as just -cancer-, and increase in cancers caused by factors other than smoking is not a reason to carry on smoking! that logic is like saying it-s okay to take Heroine because alcohol addiction can do just as much harm socially!
Of course, if everyone stoped smoking, the government would have to find something else to tax!well i wouldn-t know cause i never stopped smoking cause it feel really good so if you wanna stop smoking then you better of getting ill

p.s who ever smoke please dont stop cause you dont to end up being illCancer isn’t one specific disease, there are sub-sections that spiral off to different parts of the body. Stopping smoking won’t prevent cancer in “general”, though it’ll go a long way to decrease the risk of getting lung cancer but it won’t necessarily thwart other areas.

Cancer isn’t the only risk of smoking, lack of fitness is the most terrible aspect of smoking. A non-smoking overweight person can easily out run a smoker, and there is a sad fact.

Smokers, do yourself a favour, buy one less packet of fags this week and donate to the Cancer Research; you’re going to need it.

Cancer Research Race for life.

wow i didn-t no that many ppl stopped lol oh well i was wrong? It would have to be researched on a case by case basis.

If everybody stop smoking, then yes, there will be a decrease in -Smoking related illness-.

As for other type or orther means of getting cancer, there might be more or less. We-ll never know for sure.

You see, lung cancer is not only happen to smokers or the one around them.
Cars, pollutions, are other means of geting it too.

May be that-s why eventhough, the number of smokers has been decreasing, but the illnest is still increase.

Back then, there were not many cars on the street like today.
There were more trees, water were cleaner, etc.

So, if asking about overall, I dont think we can tell for sure.
There are too many variables that make people sick.

But, if asking about smoke related, then yes, there would be less people geeting ill.All I can tell you is that my mother smoked for 37 years and then 11 years ago she died of a smoking related illness. If I could ban smoking I would. I never got to say goodbye to my mother. If everyone stopped smoking RIGHT now - Gordon Brown would have to instantly increase taxation due to Taxation - VAT revenue fall.

That would affect the NHS (already struggling with finances) and other tin pot schemes he has allowed to continue

And he-d love that -

How can i stop smoking weed and get a normal teenageer life? -

How can i stop smoking weed and get a normal teenageer life? -

so ive been smoking weed since the 7th grade im in 10th now and its just gotten in way over my head, i lost the majority of my friends, made new ones but there all stoners like me, dropped out of the main highschool in my area cause of a fight, go to a charter skool wher everybody smokes, and it seems like thats all i do now, i spend 100% of my money on it, its just getting old, i literally dont have any other intrest , dont like any sports, tried church too boring....i want a job but im sure they drug test before you even get the job so idk what can i do to stop smoking?Quit smoking and get a normal life. You want to quit but you have to stop it and change your life which will not be easy, and you will slip up and go back. But you have to tell yourself every day and every time you want to smoke, -No I want a different path- and just deal with the urge. As for drug tests it is in your system for about 30 days, the best thing to do is drink plenty of water and exercise to help get it out. If they test your hair it stays a little longer I think but, You have to just do it and live for yourself, not weed, not your friends, not anyone but you and what you want. I hope you do it, there will be people who will support you like AA or NA and there will be new friends who will support your decision, I will support your decision. Good Luckgo to a na meeting ask for help get a sponserok find a hobby that you like more than it. then you need to get all of your weed and flush it down the drain. the next time some one asks you to buy or smoke some, walk away. then talk to some one about it.

Oh and you might want to go back to a regular school if you want to have a shot at life. You just got to think about your future, do you want to go to college or have a good career? start cutting down and just keep cutting down until you don-t do it anymore. then enroll back into a regular school, and focus on good grades, and friends and that good stuff.Good News: Pot does not contain anything that-s chemically addicting, so it-s easier to quit than most other illegal substances.

Bad News: Since you-ve been using it for awhile, you may have an emotional attachment to the drug. In order to quit it you-re going to have to will power yourself away from it. Tell yourself that smoking weed is -not an option!- and every time you get the urge tell yourself that. If you can get through 40 days without smoking weed, you-ll be home free.

You may also want to consult a treatment center or your doctor.

Best of luck to you.um.. just say no. and get some confidence in yourself. its just weed. its not the most addicting drug. The fact that you see the problem for what it is shows that you are totally able to do this. You just have to respect yourself more than you respect the addiction. Get involved in anything you can, not including pot. Weed is such a motivation and time stealer, once you rise above the fog, you will regain interest in other activities. I promise...for real. Keep trying, don-t give up. Even if you fall off the wagon, get back on. However many times it takes, you are worth it. Tell a teacher or school counselor what is going on, maybe you can find a good support system there. Good luck to you.at least you want to get better... so that-s a start (:
try different things... i know it sounds really cliche, but you might actually find something you like and continue from there. most importantly, focus on school... get out of the charter school if you can and go to one that has good students and teachers... not necessarily a private school or anything... just another high school in your area.

all you have to do is start from scratch. i-m sure you-ll do fine... you seem promising (: good luck!Don-t blame the weed. Your problem is you-re just too lazy.Force yourself to get involved with something that you know is good for society or your community. Just take that first step, and you-ll be on your way to a better life. Some advice, contact no., and support groups are shown in section 52, on addictions, at
http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris
Teen resources are shown in section 13, on pages A, K, - R. Find new friends, who don-t use it; change schools. Also see section 9. If you backslide, (try not to) just reaise you are human, and fallible, then start over, and learn from it.Get a girlfriend who doesn-t smoke. She-ll find you so annoying when you-re high that you-ll have to quit.you just make the decision to stop smoking, and you do it. Get into a 12 step program. Change your friends. Don-t hang out with the old friends anymore because they will want you to stay doing the old behaviors. Its alot of work to give up an old habit, but its good that you recognize the problem. It will only get worse and you will be an adult drug addict and never hold a job or have a decent life. You dont want that. Clean up as quickly as possible. Maybe you can be a drug addiction counselor with other teens and help them clean up too,Talk to an adult that is willing to help you.
Find somebody who care about you and would push you to stop smoking weed.
Be DETERMINE to quit, it-s gonna be a hard road. But with the proper help and people that wants to help you, you-ll be normal again.
Call some teen helpline or something. And if you could, talk to your parents.

What is the best way to start exercising? -

What is the best way to start exercising? -

well i am about 50lbs over weight to me but medicaly im 65-70lbs and would like to start out with at least 15 hrs a week of intense workout so i can be good in shape by november or january. any way the thing is im scarred because i smoke (but planned on stopping) im scarred that i would get too much stress on my chest if i work out to much. so what would be the best start to a person who stops smoking the day before they begain a work out? should i wait a few days or what? and what is the the best way to work out your abs other than push ups? i cant do those because of my huge breast hitting me in the throat lol. help me!hum well it depends on how many laps can you do on the track i suggest you should jog the long way and walk the curve, and use lane 8 also you need to watch your diet try not to eat after 9 pm eat a small breakfast like fruit stay away from fried foods and pasta also try to eat small meals through out the day and not just big ones.... Goodluck for january.I am 16 years old and am very physically fit. Start out slow. Don-t kill yourself in your first week because that would make you not want to stay with it. Consistancy is the most important thing. Start about 30 minutes a day of cardio such as: Jogging, elypticals, stairstepping, jumping rope, and biking. Ab workouts can include: 1. 6 inches: lay on your back and hold your feet above the ground at 6 inches for as long as you can. you will feel the burn trust me. 2. Planks: hold yourself on your elbows and toes with your back at 180 degrees. Those are the worst but the best.
