is this normal of people that stop smoking and if so how long is this gonna last. im about to start smoking again because this is driving me crazy. and is there any over-the-counter drugs to relieve this caughThe hacking up of discolored mucus is your bodies way of saying thank you. Every time you cough up a funky looking loogie, consider it a ticket that adds another day to your life. The first week is pretty hard. You-ll get urges. You-ll feel hyper. You-ll think about going to your neighbor and bumming a cig. BUT, if you can get through this first week, you-ll see the immediate affects of quiting. The smells. Those glorious smells you never noticed before.... The wiff of fall flowers blooming, experiencing the rich grillings of a steakhouse, wincing at the pungent scent of wasabi.
The exquisite tastes. I think people gain alot of weight when they quit smoking because food just tastes soooo much better. Were you a salt and pepper monkey? Once you quit smoking, when you mention that you have a pack a day habit, people will think you mean spices.
The cough is a good thing. Embrace the cough. Keep an empty soda bottle near you at all times. Spit in the bottle. Empty the spit in a veggie garden every night. Fill the bottle with water and pour over the spit. Clean the bottle or find a new one. Repeat.
DO NOT START SMOKING AGAIN. I do not say this because I care about you particularly. I would tell every smoker the same thing.
the coughing is caused by tiny hairs in your throat. all the nictoine is slowly coming away from them and as it does they are coming free. causing you to cough. The coughing will slow and down and eventually stop.
I would visit your doctor and see if it is ok to take anything to stop the coughing. Do not be tempted to buy cough mixture! good luckThis is your lungs getting rid of all the gunk from smoking. Yes, many experience this when quitting. It will last as long as it takes to clear
your lungs...different with each individual.
Talk to your doc or pharmacist about OTC meds. They will be happy to help you in your quest to stop smoking.
