my daughter Veronica has been smoking since she was 18 (she is 22 now) and she never listens to me when i tell her to stop because it unhealthy and disgusting, how to i get her to listen to me and stop?

i have 4 kids (3 girls and 1 boy) and she is the only one who smokes and i know her siblings dont like it either (ages 24, 20 and 20)have her add up how much she spends on cigarettes a year...you-d be shocked!get one of her packs of cigarettes, and lace it with something that will giver her a bad trip... she-ll stop smoking after one or two of those.i think she-s old enough to make her own decisionsHow Honest is your Daughter ?? I-m a smoker as well and have been trying to quit then i found that site and if i could get the nicotine craving without getting all the bad stuff i would much rather do that.well u sound like my mom, she doesnt like that i smoke and has tried to get me to quit for a long time, i am now tryin to quit but it isnt cause of anything that my mom tried to do to get me to quit.... i just finally made the decesion that it wasnt worth it my gpa had open heart surgery a year ago and was told never to smoke again or he would have more problems and possibly die, now he has to go have a heart catherization tommorow cause there is more blockage and he is still smokin i dont want to end up like that, plus i had a gma that died of lung cancer so it just was something that i had to decide on my own.... good luck!!!!As a daughter of a mother who didn-t want me to smoke, there was nothing she could say or do to make me stop. I did stop on my own though (multiple times) due to asthma. I don-t know if she lives with you, but I was never allowed to smoke in the house, etc. I had to go outside. Come winter and the freezing cold (or rain, etc) I definitely cut back!
Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is tell her that when she is ready, you-ll support her in her effort to quit. I have to say though, with the price of cigarettes, I don-t know how people afford them!There really isn-t anything you can do, except give her support if she herself tries to stop.

General:

Get plenty of rest. Smoking is one of the hardest addictions to overcome and you need all the energy you can get.
Addictions may be related to brain chemistry imbalances. Good nutrition is very essential, especially during the time you are trying to form new patterns of behavior.
Some habit patterns such as smoking often have triggers that go along with them. For example, sitting in a favorite chair or getting a cup of coffee, then automatically reaching for a cigarette. Try to look for these trigger emotions or habits that go along with your smoking so that you can avoid them.
Avoid being around others who smoke while you are trying to break the habit.
Specific:

Decide on a stopping date. Tell others when it will be so they can encourage you.
Throw all your cigarettes and any related items such as your lighter or matches away. Do not put them where you can get them again -if you need them-.
Do not drink or use any beverages or medicines that contain caffeine or alcohol. During the time you are trying to break your cigarette habit, using any other addicting substances will cause you to be less successful. In addition, this is a good time to strongly consider giving these habits up also, as they are strong stimulants to smoking.
Drink plenty of water and juices during the first week you are quitting. Try to drink at least 6 glasses of water per day. Getting the nicotine out of your system is helped with increased amounts of drinks that do not contain caffeine or alcohol.
At any time during the day that you are at work and crave a cigarette, take a drink of water and go for a 10-20 minute walk. If you are at home, take a cool shower. It is difficult to smoke while in the shower.

Go to bed early. An adequate rest may naturally help to reduce the need for a cigarette to keep you calm.
Thoroughly air out your house; sleep with the windows open.
Don-t wish that you could have -just one more smoke-. Remember that you have just given up a disgusting habit that could kill you, and gained a freedom that will be with you for life, and improve your health dramatically.
If someone knows that you smoked in the past and offers you a cigarette, tell them that you are an ex-smoker. This reinforces your decision to be a non-smoker.

don-t startkeep using the patches and chew alot of gum try to stay away from other smokers and do your best to keep your hands occupied, I quit almost two years ago I smoked for 30 years, My best tip is every time you get a craving take 5 or6 deep breathes. I know its hard to quit It took my 24 yr old daughter dieing of lung cancer and to by passes on my legs to make me realize I had to quit. If I can do it so can you good luck

I was previously very slim with no fat at all and no hips but since stopping smoking a couple of years ago, I have developed a more pear shape with fatter hips, bottom and thighs. What is the best way to get rid of this, especially exercise wise?This is the toughest area to tone! At least for me! I-ve been a runner and this was great for me in losing weight but I still had bigger thighs. I joined a gym a year ago and began taking cycling (spin) classes....holy cow! Talk about difficult! I didn-t lose much by way of inches but I really toned up. The muscle is really defined in my thighs and calves! I also started lifting weights. I do it on my own at the gym as well as take the classes and discovered lunges! Those really target your butt! The important thing to remember is to do a lot of them! Obviously at first you won-t be able to do a ton, but over time, you should increase them. I do walking lunges. I-ll take the baskeball courts or the gym room where they do classes and do lunges across the floor. I started going across the floor only 3 or 4 times. Now, I try to go back and forth double that or more and I do it at least twice each week. Also, stairs are great for your butt and thighs. You will not bulk up doing this! Another thing to try if these others don-t work for you is just plain old walking. But, instead of walking on a flat surface, ADD INCLINE or hills! Walk as quickly as you can on an incline and this really targets, butt and inner thighs. Remember to shock your body each time you exercise. If it feels easy or comfortable, then you aren-t working hard enough. Get in at least 30 minutes of heavy breathing, sweat pouring out of you exercise and you-ll see the results! Chew gum, hard candy, the idea is to be able to put something in your mouth besides a cig.biofeedback.Whew, I just quit smoking last year after 22 years. I personally used Wellbutrin XL but hell I was on it for 3 years before I finally layed them down. But after all that even though its rough, the best way is cold turkey. I-ve heard many people swear on lemon drops candy for the cravings and it does work. Just do like I did, everytime you light that cigarette just look at it and think why the hell do I smoke this nasty tasting thing, it makes me stink, it makes my teeth yellow, I cough, I gag and for this stupid thing that just burns away and all this money I spend on it and just keep telling yourself that and it does actually make you turn against them. Mind over matter, you keep telling you mind this and eventually you mind will make the matter work for ya and walk.
