To stop smoking??? -

To stop smoking??? -

my boy friend wants to stop smoking but he doenst know how to stop and i dont really know how to help him stop soo what should he do??? and ideas?? thanks~Tell him to research the resolved questions for the last week and 1/2 and find the last question about how to quit and read my answer.
It was chosen #1.I smoked for 16 years. I have now been smoke free for 9 months. This is what I did:
1: I use nicorette Cinnamon surge nicotine gum. It tastes great. I used the 4mg, because I used to smoke more than 25 cigs a day.
2: every time I would feel the urge to smoke, I would pull out a piece of that gum and say to myself - its time for a smoke-, then chew the gum. I would concentrate on the tingling feeling that the gum makes between my cheek and gum, and associate the slight burning sensation with the fact that I was getting my nicotine fix.
3: I started finding more time to do things that I used to not have when I wasted it smoking, so I started to do new hobbies and exercised more.
4: You have to admit to yourself that you are basically in this mess for the long run. Yes, you are going to feel miserable for a few weeks. Yes, you are going to crave a cig. Yes, you are going to question why you quit. But then the money starts to stack up in your pocket, you can breathe again, and you realize that the misery is over in a few weeks. Life still goes on, everything works out.
5: This is the biggest one. Have him go to -why quit.com-. Joel has some great things to tell you, and it was the best inspiration I have ever had. This website is the reason I was able to quit smoking after all those years.
Good luck! And remember...never take another puff!!!!!

Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.tell him to stop buying cigarettes...Perhaps he should join a Quit Smoking Clinic.I smoked for many years. I have been quit now for almost 7 years. I tried many times to quit, and failed until I called the american cancer society. I didn-t have cancer. They gave this number 1-800-nobutts. I talked to a counselor on the phone and was sent a packet which helped me design a step by step approach to quitting. It was amazing. Please to your boyfriend to call that number. Everyone I know who made that call was able to quit successfully. Good luck.it-s really hard, i know (i quit in October last year, after many attempts) he needs a good motivation (mine was i am pregnant), like for his health? he has to focus on this.
also, cut down on milligrams - if he-s smoking 12 milligram ciggarettes, next pack he buys has to be the next step down (here in Australia it-s 8mg, then 6mg, etc). only buy one pack for each step until he-s down to the lowest available strength. thats a GREAT start.
Then, make smoking inconvenient and uncomfortable... no smoking in the house, he has to go outside, and ALONE, he may not be around anyone when he smokes - that means leaving the house/ club/ pub, etc to smoke. and no smoking in the car - make no smoke zones.
Also, if he keeps his ciggarettes somewhere inconvenient like in the car - he has to go and get a ciggarette from the car every time (and no grabbing more than one, like one for later, thats cheating).
and most importantly, a craving will only last 60 seconds. when he gets a physical craving, he should tell himself this, and this will help as he knows it has a time limit for how long it can torture him.
I went to a hypnotherapist (surprisingly effective, but $200AU) and the above methods. and now i-m smoke free! hurrah!he can call the local hospital and check on a smoking cessation class or talk to the doc. i-m trying to quit right now too. first thing i did was stop smoking in the house. that caused a huge decrease in the amount i smoke per day. next, no more smoking in the car. that-s another big chunk out of the way. when he gets his smoking down to the minimum he can do on his own, the doc can prescribe chantix. its a new drug available to help you quit. his doc can give him all the info about it or you can check their website. thay also offer helplines.Hey there, so there is this great product out there by “NewReality Life” that helped me stop smoking, and I haven’t had a single cigarette in over a year! This little device/mp3 player thing works on the Mind-Body connection thing they talk about in the book “The Secret.” This company seems to have been using that technology before the best-selling book did, and the designing psychologist supposedly pioneered the philosophy. This cool little portable device addresses your desire to smoke, and works with you to end your smoking addiction, not like those stupid hypnosis tapes that NEVER work. Plus you get these really cool little LED glasses which are unbelievably relaxing! You should check it out; they also do stuff like weight loss and stress reduction too!! Their website is www.newrealitylife.comQuitting smoking is NOT hard. The physical cravings are actually embarrassingly easy to fight. All that is required is that you want to quit smoking. That’s all. No tricks, no gimmicks, nothing else to buy. You just have to want to stop smoking. That’s it.

Tell him to just keep reminding himself the following:

You don’t have anything to lose: Except the foul smelling, disgusting tasting cloud of evil that is cigarette smoking and nicotine addiction.

You have nothing to FEAR: Fear is what stops most people from taking on the demon. Do NOT be afraid, the physical ‘cravings’ that you feel will NOT kill you, in fact, they really are barely noticeable.

Stopping smoking is almost purely psychological. But you have the ammunition to shoot down the demon every time it rears its ugly head.

This is the very worst it can do! It can’t actually hurt you. You are in control here. You are too strong and you will be able to overpower it armed with the facts.

You have a whole lot to regain: Freedom from ever having to feed the demon in conditions that in themselves could be hazardous to your health, freedom from the stench, freedom from clouds of poisonous gas that surround you when you light up, freedom from ever having to deal with the horrific diseases that it causes and painful, frightening early death.

Download the free chapters at the following website for more information.

Good luck, I-ve been there.it-s mind over matter.
if he wants to stop it he can.
his addiction doesn-t force him to go out and buy ciggarettes.
he just has to deal.

Why all the smoker cant stop smoking ( it is very hard to do that )? -

hanade20056@yahoo.comI-m sure the fact that nicotine is more addictive than crack cocaine and crystal meth has a lot to do with it.Try this website for quit smoking help and information. Quit smoking can be a very stressful experience so you-ll need as much help as you can get.

Remember why you-re doing it! (Family, friends, general health)

This is what yoo-re exactly looking for.

Don-t give up and good luck!Because nicotine mimics the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain. The smoker-s brain habituates to the nicotine, reducing the synthesis of acetylcholine. Then when the nicotine is withheld, the brain is seriously depleted of acetylcholine, and a powerful craving for nicotine ensues.nicotine is strong drug and its hard to give upIt-s easier to start than it is to stop.

Try it, you-ll see what I mean.yes its very hard to quit but with a lot of willing and a schedule any smoker can quitIt-s easy to quit smoking, staying quit is the trick. The nicotine is not the only part that makes smoking addicting. The longer you smoke the more routines you get into and smoking becomes part of everything. You have to unlearn this habit. That-s the hard part.

What are the temporary bad effects of stopping smoking? -

What are the temporary bad effects of stopping smoking? -

I-m quitting smoking, and I-m currently suffering from a horrible cough and a bout of acne. A friend told me that stopping smoking has temporary bad effects, but could not tell me what they were or how long they last.Your body can adjust pretty quickly to quitting smoking. The first 72 hours are the most difficult, while there are still traces of nicotine in your body. After the first 72 hours withdrawals will decrease slightly, but it still takes 10 to 20 days before your body will be accustomed to the absence of nicotine in your system.

Your concentration will most likely decrease. This is not simply because of the craving, it is the lack of your usual does of fatty acids and sugars which many don-t realize ciggarettes contain. This is the reason so many people start to eat alot while they quit, which is fine, as long as you keep your body moving and occupied. Pig out on suger if you need to, but keep healthy, walk and get the adrenaline pumping- This WILL help I assure you.

Your sleep patterns will change, which can cause you troubles sleeping. Nicotine affects our adrenaline, which affects our sleeping. You may sleep more or less, it varies person to person.

You-ll probably find your breath to be a little more intense then usual. Your mouth, lung and throat tissues need a good flushing out to help rid them of the remains of the nicotine and smoke. Drink tons of water to help it along.
Around this time your sense of taste and smell will begin to return to normal.

Some people get physically sick, nausea, diarehea etc. Not all that fun, but only in passing, and it-s worth it believe me!

The psychological symptoms are there as well of course, these include : nervousness, anxiety, irritability, frustration, anger, rage, tension, jitters, shaking, shakiness, inability to concentrate, and more.

Some smokers even react to quitting smoking with depression, as the withdrawl and missing of the smoking itself is grieved as a loss. This is normal, but watch yourself and be aware of it. If you feel out of control, then you need to talk to someone you can trust to help you keep your head on your shoulders. Here is what you need to do. Get the nicotine patches. They limit your intake and they will eventually ween you off of the nicotine. This will cut out the acne, and the cough. (the cough is your body getting rid of the nicotine stuck in your body.) These will also help if you start getting head aches or added stress that you get without nicotine. You also need to EXCERCISE! without this, you will gain a lot of weight because without smoking, your body goes into a hibernation state which make you want to eat more. Limit your calorie intake and eat normal sized meals with a healthy snack in between each meal. This will keep your matabolism speed up. (My mother in law gained like 50 pounds because when she stopped smoking she began to eat like a pig and she sat around all day, so make sure you get plenty of phisical activity! :o)

Good Luck, you won-t regret stopping!!!!!!obviously the withdrawal feelings. Some gain weight, some do not. Try using mints to pop in your mouth when you crave somethingAs for the acne, your hormones are going into a rage right now, your probably very stressed and mind crazy for the moment... Acne has nothing to do with what you are eating. i wish people would let go of that myth.. If its bothersome go see a dermotologist, but im sure it will go away once your hormones and stress settle down. The coughing is definatly gunna happen. you are releasing all of the phlem and nasty ness stuck to the lining of your lungs, you will eventually start coughing up nasty lookin stuff... but hang in there, it is MUCH better than dying and having mass medical bills from cancer right? The temp bad effects are not nearly as bad as the horrible long term effects smoking causes.

Your body is going through withdrawl.the coughing is temporary, the weight gain is 4-everyou eat. a lot.The toxins which have accumulated in your body are gradually being released. This will continue for several weeks, as there is an enormous amount of toxin from the tobacco and the 50+ chemicals in a cigarette.
You could speed up the release, and avoid weight gain, by fasting for five days on just water and fruit juice. Orange juice is good to replace the vitamin C lost through smoking.I have been a non smoker for almost 2 years I myself did suffer from a bad cough and cold that is the nicotine working itself out of your body u will feel like crap for awhile. The acne is prob. u have been eating different since you are trying to quit. Just stick with it and it will eventually go away and you will feel like a new person ......I Do! It is worth it. Just hang in there! It will last about 2-3 months or so and get better every day.
