My erections have been weak lately and I am sure it-s the cigarettes which consticts blood vessels.
So my question is does it come back right strong or is there too much damage after 20 years. Also, how long will it take to come back?I would think, like your lungs, it will take some time.If a man in his 40s stops smoking after 20 years, will his erections become stronger in a short time? -

I quit over two years ago. I smoked a pack a day for 7 years. Here-s what I did; I bought my last pack of cigarettes and smoked them all. Accept one. And I carried that cigarette and a lighter with me for over a month.
I tried to quit a bunch of times and it never worked. Carrying a smoke reminded me that I could smoke anytime I wanted. I was CHOOSING not to.
The times I quit before I would be sitting around at home thinking, -Man, If I just had a cigarette.- Then a friend would come over and I-d bum one. It was pointless.
Carry one. It will help.Throw them in the garbage can. Don-t feel bad because it-s cigarettes, not food. A good way to stop smoking is to quit cold turkey. I don-t smoke, so I don-t know how difficult it really is to quit, but I do know that a lot of smokers have successfully kicked the habit with the help of Wellbutrin. My dad has gone almost two months without a cigarette and he was a former 2-pack a day chain-smoker. And he smoked for over 30 years! Wellbutrin was a godsend for him! My younger sister had started taking Wellbutrin for depression but quit the med after her heart started racing, and she gave the almost full bottle of pills to my dad. He took the Wellbutrin and still does; it doesn-t work for everybody, though. Just think about all the money you-ll save by giving up cigarettes. Do what most people do -- quit one vice, and adopt another, such as overeating or compulsive shopping. Just kidding about switching one vice for another. :) Good luck! Your lungs will thank you! Oh, and wash your clothes, air out the house, etc. because you-re going to notice a really strong smoke smell when you-ve been cigarrette-free for a few days or weeks and it-s not a pleasant smell! When I moved out of my parents house (my dad was a smoker), my sense of smell improved dramatically! Smokers (and people who live with them) cannot smell the smoke on their clothes or in the house. After awhile, you-ll be able to tell who smokes and who doesn-t because the smell is very, very strong. I can-t believe that I smelled that terribly of smoke and didn-t even realize it until I was in a smoke-free environment!Develop Lung Cancer. If that doesn-t make you stop, nothing will. More people die of Lung Cancer each year than prostate and breast cancer combined.
I-ve got acute asthma, and let me tell you there is nothing fun about losing lung capacity. I can-t even climb a flight of stairs without being seriously out of breath. I can-t run with my kids. I can-t walk long distances without losing breath.
And I didn-t CHOOSE to be that way.
I-ve had a lot of experience with people trying to quit smoking. No matter which method you try, it means squat if you-re not ready to take responsibility for your own actions against your body, and just QUIT.
So frankly the only good way to quit smoking is to just toss them, and deal with the cravings until your body is detoxed and your mind is free from the desire.
At least you have a choice.I quit with the patch.I used the generic ones.I knew what I was getting into because I quit before.I prepared myself ahead of time.First thing I did was rearrange my kitchen.(I sat in the same spot every morning for coffee and a smoke)I had to sit in a different spot. The patch helped me alot. When I got to the last step,I kept forgetting to put them on so I didnt hardly use the last ones.If you have cartons of cigarettes then sell them to someone and dont be around anyone who smokes and keep yourself occupied if you want to quit.Wean your self off of them. What ever your normal amount is take away one every couple of days eventually you won-t want them as much. it also helps to keep yourself busy even if that means singing or licking a lolly pop until the craving passes. What is a good way to stop smoking with out just tossing them? -

how many of you are planning to quit for the new year? How are you going to do it (ie.patches etc)Quit years ago. It-s easy. Go cold turkey. Research has shown that people who use substitutes are more likely to take up the habit again. Drink lots of water and keep your mind and body busy...me and husband stopped last year using patches and both still not smokingi need to quit, but when you make your own and they are only 8 bucks a week to smoke....er...but getting in a basketball league should help out, and I might go to the patch...I quit before and used them for a week and they helped out a bunch...I quit 2 years ago. I used the Nicitrol Inhalers for about 4 months and havent had a problem since. Good luck if you decide to quit. How many packs a day are you smoking ?
Folks doing over 2 packs need to cut down to 1 pack a day or less
At that point cold turkey, patch, gum etc worksMy husband said that he-s going to. He has tried gum, patches, zyban.
He-s quit about 3 times. Zyban worked but it made his personality change. He was loopy for lack of a better word.
He quit for a year and started again, I wanted to kick his a**!Just DO IT. Show these weak willed smelly nicotine heads that you have far more willpower than they could ever dream of. If you are really determined then it is NOT impossible. Good luck. Not at the moment - I know too many people over 40 who smoked and were perfectly fit and well. They then decided to give up after years of smoking and they now have asthma, cancer, heart attacks etc. I really dont think its a good idea to totally give up after years of smoking cigarettes - cut down maybe but not stop xxxive just quit already nearly 2 weeks im so proud of myself im usin the patches but sumdays i try 2 not use them if i feel the urge 2 have a fag then i will stick a patch on!Get yourself a book called The Only Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. You can smoke whilst you read it. There are no scare tactics, he just shows smoking for what it is and tries to get you to reverse the brainwashing surrounding smoking. You will infact by the middle of the book get excited about the prospect of not smoking and furthermore will enjoy the process. You could also attend one of his clinics - Raynes Park in WimbledonJust quit, please. I did it and I am proud of it. I know a woman who got lung cancer and she-s getting ready to die. She-s on oxigen. It-s not pretty and it-s very painful.Smoking causes CANCER give up now and dont die young and let the people you live with breath health air rather that your passive smoking airI smoked for 20 years and gave up 2 months ago by willpower. First month was a nightmare, 2nd month hasn-t been too bad. If you are going to give it a go good luck.Just quit! It ain-t hard.I will continue smoking so the people in the tobacco industry get their wages. Save the tobacco industry.Stopping smoking? -
What are the negative long term health effects of nicotine (from a patch; not from smoking) ? -

Stopped smoking a while back, and I only smoked for 6 months. If I CONTINUE to use nicotine patches for a long time, what are the long-term effects of continued nicotine usage?Nicotene increases the levels of a hormone called dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is involved with diseases like alzheimers and parkinson-s. There is some evidence that these diseases are more prevalent among smokers than non smokers. I know you mentioned you don-t smoke, but in any form, inhaled or intradermal, nicotene will have the same effects.
Lollythe same as smokingProbably none, other than the cost of the patches. You don-t get cardiopulmonary problems. Nicotine actually protects you from Alzheimer-s and Parkinson-s:
