Whats the best way to stop smoking?!?!? -

I am 23 and smoke a pack and half a day! I have tried the patch before and i still smoke about 5 cigs a day on it (which i know is dangerous). I am afraid to try the gum because it is so expensive and i-m afraid it might taste nasty and that might be a waste of money. I have an appointment today with the doc to try and get a prescription to stop.

What has worked for you or someone you know? And also, i am thinking maybe i can take the pill and the patch together??? HELP!

I have stopped smoking (cold turkey) twice for 9 months while i was pregnant but for someone reason, when i am not pregnant i DO NOT WHATSOEVER have near as much will power!!You could use a patch with Chantix, but it usually isn-t necessary.
The chantix has worked miracles for even long time smokers. It helped me kick a 20 year 2 pack a day habit. After a week on it, I just didn-t feel like smoking anymore. It was incredible. The side effects can be a killer. I remember vivid nightmares and night sweats. Other than that, I felt great! Unfortunately I-m bipolar and after 2weeks on it,I became manic. Stopped taking it at that point, but suffered the effects horribly for about a month after. I didn-t smoke for 4 months and then gave in to a moment of weakness. Don-t let me scare you away from the pill,it has worked wonders, Just be aware and watch for the side effects. Good luck!Perhaps you can look at some resources on this site!

You have to admit that the folks that produce the tobacco products did a heck of a job of building in the demand. The only difference between them and the drug pushers is the legality.Cold turkey seems to be the only thing that worked for me, at least for awhile. I tried the gum, you-re right it is nasty, and the patches made me want to vomit.

Get rid of everything tobacco related, put away ashtrays, clean the crap out of your house to get rid of the smell, tell everyone you know that you are going to be in a bad mood and try to ride it out. The first week is awful, after that it gets better, and you only get those cravings every so often. Try to keep yourself busy, exercise, if you play an instrument try doing that, or even learn how to play one. I learned how to play the bass guitar on one of my quitting attempts. You really just have to distract yourself. Exercise is probably the best way to go about doing this. I-ve tried a few different medications and none have worked very well unfortunately.The only thing I can suggest is that your hands aren-t busy enough. You smoke so little. They SAY that hypnotism is good. I never could. I went from three packs of camel a day----------one full winter of pneumonia-------------- to about
ten sugar flavored (but has nicotine in it) cigars. The cost
comparison: cigarettes would be right now $300 month
300 of my cigars is $98 month
