stopped smoking 17days ago and the craving are still here they are quite bad some days to the point where I think I am just going to have one. I have carried 15 around with me and never touched them. I am on Champix so is it normal to still have cravings like me.Well done on the 17 days so farIt will get easier but at times the temptation could get the better of you especially if you continue to carry some around. I-m coming up to a year and i-ve had a sh1t day today...while bringing my cat back from the vets it took everything i-d got not to ask the taxi driver to stop at the newsagents then while making a phone call to my ex regarding a health problem our son has i would have killed someone for a drag. So I got thru this day...and hopefully i-ll get thru tomorrow. That-s how I do it, i-m just not smoking today. I feel ok, in fact quite smug with my self that I didn-t give in today...that-s half of what carries me at times. In short quitting smoking is a great thing to do, and the effects of quitting vary in terms of length of time.
Within 20 minutes your blood pressure and pulse returns to normal.
Within 8 hours nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood reduce by half, oxygen levels return to normal and circulation improves.
Within 24 hours carbon monoxide and nicotine are eliminated from the body.
Within 48 hours the ability to taste and smell improves.
Within 3 days your breathing becomes easier as your bronchial tubes begin to relax.
Within a few weeks your fingers lose their yellow stains and your skin looks better.
Within 1 month your appearance improves - skin loses its greyish pallor and becomes less wrinkled.
Within 3-9 months coughing and wheezing declines.
Within 1 year the risk of heart attack reduces by half compared to that of a smoker.
Within 10 years the risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker.
Within 15 years your risk of coronary heart disease is the same as a non-smoker.
It is believed that at first you will feel unhealthy as you smoking cigarettes was part of you lifestyle and routine. Its basically changing a massive part of your routine which in some sense your body has got used to (don-t take this as a good thing). So yeh its an uphill struggle at first but it gets easier. You have to change your mental attitude about what your doing. Remember when you started smoking, and you coughed up your lungs and it tasted like crap, and you kept patting yourself on the back and was proud of yourself for smoking? Well you have to do the same thing when quiting, pat yourself on the back all the time and be proud of yourself. It gets easier and easier, that-s how I quit 12 years ago. Good Luck! When you read this you may think i-m a little yount, but were wise hehe, the best thing is maybe when you have a crave is too have something to eat maybe a drink like water or friut? something good for you... when you sit down and think hard, of all the bad things that smokinng does too you .. e.g does not help cancer, makes breathing harder .. this sould scare you maybe? all the badness in 1 of them cigs that you dont need ... if your young you might want to stop incase you have kids?... does not help them.. i no, if your older then the truth is this is not really going ot get any easier unless you have confidence!!!! if yourself .... Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK !!!Stopping smoking was the hardest thing I ever did. At one point the only thing that kept me going, was the thought that if I started again, I would have gone through all that suffering for nothing - and I didn-t want to do that.
It will get easier, but it might take quite a while.
You have my very best wishes.
Good luck and keep up the good work.it wont taste good if you have one now belive me,as an incentive work out what you would have spent on the smelly sticks since you gave up then go to the bank take out that amount and blow it on something for YOU, i saved for a year and had a fantastic 2wk holiday which before i would never have afforded or try a new hobbyyeah you should cut the nicotine completely its easy to fight the nicotine addiction, takes about 3 days. The hardest thing is the social side of it and i think it would be more difficult to fight both the physical and social addiction at the same time. Cut out the champix!Ya it is, and even though it WIlL get easier, the craving will sadly never completely go away. Stay strong though because you can definitely get through it. Good luck.Chew on chewing gum, and just keep reminding yourself why you have gave up, and yeah its gets SO much easier.. but it does take A lot of time but mostly will power, try you-re hardest too stick too it and good luck!!you are ten thousand times stronger than that little weed, be strong, be determined, try not to think about it too much, think of other things and you will succeed, Yes You Will, because you have the Will Power.MAKE SURE YOU drink A LOT of water. You can only get the nicotine out of your system doing that.
EVERY TIME YOU WANT ONE ... have a glass of water. It took me about a month for the cravings to go away. Havent touched one now for ten years. Stick with it, it will get easier.
Good Lucki agree with JG i still chew on the nicotince gum so therefore i have not completley got off the drugIT WILL.
