I-m trying to get my dad to stop smoking,
just post in here telling him all the negative effects of it.
Because I-ll show him what everybody says.yeah, you should stop, its hard, I finally did, it takes about 6 months to get used to it, but you will feel great if you do!!
GoodluckRemember , Brandon , his choice to smoke , but tell him how much you will miss him for dying prematurely , from smoking related illnessYou can not convince him stop smoking unless he really love you and care what you say. I saw this happened and worked with young sons or young daughters at ages of elementary or middle schools.

However if you are older, you can do something hard that equals to quiting smoking. It will challenge him.Is your father still working?what-s the nature of his JOB??
You know it-s very hard to tell a person to stop smoking, specially when these people are really engage into strenous jobs, and to quit smoking right away,is not good...negative effects will come right away.like withdrawal...they will chill..
But the real thing is,,he should minimize little by little..until he will learn to smoke 1 cigar in a day...and eventually he will just stop smoking..
I know you-re dad needs some motivation...and just tell him to chew some low sugar candies or gum...because smokers are orally fixated, they always want something in their mouth...
and tell him...that you still need him..and you love him so much that-s why you-re doing this positive gestures for him.only he can want to stop smoking and do it....It is expensive as hell.

Last December 1st, I bought my monthly supply of three cartons (pack a day). It was over $100 for the first time ever. I told the clerk, -this is my last purchase of cigs...-. January 1, I started with Nicorette gum (actually the Sams Club version). I am still chewing the gum (down to the 2mg now though), but its much less expensive than cigs, and isnt bad for you, and doesnt set a bad example for my kids, and doesnt smell bad, and doesnt taste bad. Oh, and the gum keeps you from gaining all that weight, because it satisfies that oral fixation.

GOOD LUCK DAD!its bad for him. Even the cigarrete companies put that on the back of cigarette cartons. Its hard to quit, but if he loves you and wants to see you in 6 years in the future, he will stop. Good luckI smoked for several years... never thought it would effect me, until eventually I developed asthma! I quit that day ~ and haven-t looked back. Having that scare (my grandfather died of emphasema ~ what was I thinking? He eventually needed a tracheotomy (how to spell? A tube in his throat) to breathe. I wish to G-d that I stopped earlier. My kids are 7 and 9 and my asthma is under control, but I have to use a steroid disk 2x a day; this inhaler costs $250 a month! Also two kinds of allergy medicines and one other. Although the $400-500 a month meds are bad enough, I worry and pray that I never will get worse. I hope your father decides to do whatever he can to quit now! Once he has gotten past the first month, he will be well on his way.

I suggest he takes a quick walk in place of smoking. Chew on a straw, nibble on sunflower seeds (they help take the craving away). It-s not just his life that is effected, it-s yours. When you stop smoking, you realize just how much time you waste thinking about smoking (when you will have your next one, wondering if you need to buy any, are you running out? Will you be allowed to smoke where you are going?).

Let-s talk about personal hygeine too.... Nonsmoking clothes, cars, houses, hotel rooms smell MUCH better than those where smoke has been. Your teeth, your breath ~ will all be more pleasant.

Second-hand smoke is worse than smoking yourself ~ hopefully he hasn-t exposed you to it.

Good luck to your father! Good luck to you for caring emough to try to help him. Don-t give up. Smokers know they shouldn-t be smoking. But they need to be ready (pick a date - have lots of support).Stop smokein man, my uncle just quite and its took him about a month 2 not have urges GL YOU CAN DO IT!!stop smoking unless you want to die gasping for breath!smoking-s terrible
I lost my grandparents to it.

It was really hard for them to get off the stuff
and by the time they did, it was too lateAt this rate, almost nobody smokes any more; so the cancer rates should drop like a stone, Right? Wrong, nothing happened; nothing except all the quitters are now obese and eating hypertension pills, cholesterol pills, diet pills and anything else their dr. is peddling that day. Another win for the drug cos.Every cigarette takes 3 minutes off your life.Yes. everybody needs to stop smoking.
it kills your lungs and heart
and your whole blood system
kills brain cells
and after you quit for long enough, you body will heal it-s self back to normal.
you will also save a lot of money!

So Stop Smoking!I think it-s a shame he won-t quit just from you asking him. Doesn-t he know he (and YOU) can/will get lung cancer, heart desease, and other very bad effects!?! IDK how old you are but obviously you are old enough - smart enough to know how DANGEROUS smoking - second hand smoke are. If he doesn-t want to listen to you; he should talk to his Doctor! Good luckHi dad. The # 1 reason you should stop smoking is The son that posted this whom is concerned that his dad is around for a long time to come. Its simple choose cigaretts or choose to stay alive as long as possible for your son.
Good luckLook, smoking causes addictive behavior and once you use all our money on smoking, i know you will, how will you feed the kids? how do you feed your self? what will the children think if you are at an extremely high risk of lung cancer and other respiratory problems? We know its hard, but think about your family! what will happen? You need to stand up put your foot on the ground and stop smoking!you need to remember that there is help! you can stop smoking! somewhere under those unhealthy lungs is a true father, you need to unleash it!I would definitely say yes he does need to quit smoking . It is not only bad for you but smokers nowadays are receiving discrimination similar to that of drug attics. I would recommend the patch or substituting the addiction with something repetitive.every cigarette you smoke takes away 7 minutes of your life.this si the worst thing smoking can do...its not give you cancer or kill you or anything like that....

Smoking will prevent you from enjoying those precious times with your children...like their graduation , ball , wedding and lets not mentins those sad times that cause them to gee closer to you....

smoking is at its worst as second hand smoke...it will kill the people around you that you say yo ulove faster than it will kill you...

tell your dad to make a choice...choose which one he loves more, smoking or his familyit is so gross stop now!! please i hate seeing a good looking man smoke and on the really issues of smoking there are all the health reasons witch i am sure you know and have heard but just take a look at these and i will keep my fingers crossed that you stopyes he should stop smoking, because will damage the lungs and will make your teeth yellow and the tar gets on your fingers. You should try to quit. If just a bit of smoke, bearly touching a wall, can turn it yellow, think what it is doing to a human organ. You also save alot of money, when my friends dad quit, he used the money to by his son a Gibson Les Paul.Try this:

http://cashwriter.calkeco.hop.clickbank.net/Smoking can wreck your lungs and reduce oxygen available for muscles used during sports.
Smokers run slower and can-t run as far, affecting overall athletic performance.
Tobacco smoke can make your hair and clothes stink.
Tobacco stains your teeth yellow and gives you bad breath.
Short-term use of spit tobacco can cause cracked lips, white spots, sores, and bleeding in the mouth.
Surgery to remove oral cancers caused by tobacco use can lead to serious changes in the face. Sean Marcee, a high school star athlete who used spit tobacco, died of oral cancer when he was 19 years old.
Despite all the tobacco use on TV and in movies, music videos, billboards and magazines - most teens, adults, and athletes DON-T use tobacco.
Don-t waste (burn) money on tobacco. Spend it on CD-s, clothes, computer games, and movies.Yeah, yeah, yeah, smoking is bad.

So is being manipulative and self-righteous. I understand that you are concerned, but this sort of hectoring really seems quite disrespectful. Your father knows all the details. If smoking is your father-s only fault, get over it. He will quit only when he wants to, when he is ready to. Loved ones often do things we don-t much like. You can state your thoughts, but you are arrogant to expect everyone to live up to your expectations.-lung cancer
-troubled breathing
-bad smell
-fingers turn yellow-y
-FAMILY CAN GET SECOND HAND SMOKE
- THEY CAN GET CANCER FROM IT -/3 -- my friend was only 16 when he died of lung cancer from SECOND HAND SMOKE
-bad example/role model for younger children
-my mom left my dad because he wouldn-t quit smoking

smoking is EVIL
it can kill not only you, but your family - emotionally - physically

+ why spend all that money on cigarettes when being healthy is waay less expensive ?

HMMM???Let-s start with lung cancer, yellow teeth, bad breath, heart failure, shortened breaths, can-t do simple excercises, more likely to be addicted to other bad things, temper tantrums if you don-t smoke for a while. Also think about the negative effects on loved ones around you. Becuase oddly enough they-re going to get more hurt than you from the smoke. Ear infections and asthma in children is also linked to second hand smoke. I-ve been trying to get my dad to quit but have failed, if your dad quits then I still have a chance.yellow teeth, yellow nails, tar coats ur lungs, bad breath, death, raises blood pressure, heart attacks, shortens breath, very high risk of cancer. I-m sry to hear that ur father smokes.......but explain to ur father that you want him to live with you by ur side........let him kno how much it means to you....and also he needs to learn the importance of how much it would mean to you if he stopped. Tell him that if anything ever happened to him because of him smoking that ur life would just be ruined. If he loves you enough it stop smoking. But it is also very difficult for people to stop smoking because it is very addictive. So you-ve gotta help him out. I really really do hope that he gets better:)Obviously, you don-t understand how hard it is to quit. How about you get on coke and then we all write you some letters and you-ll quit, right?

Don-t you think he-s seen all the bad stuff? Don-t you think he-d quit if he could? And if he doesn-t want to, don-t you think it-s his decision to make?

If you want to do something to help your dad, research all the possible ways to quit and discuss them with your dad. Don-t let him say he can-t afford it. Look into hypnotherapy and acupuncture and chinese herbs. Be supportive in a concrete way, not this cr*p about showing everone-s stories.

TX Mom
My mom died 3 years ago of lung cancer.yes, heart problems, cancer, shorter life ,limp willy, smells bad, lung problems, effects your families health, the cost and bad breath to name a few
