Whats the best way to help a family member stop smoking -

pleass helpThis is a tough situation because at the end of the day it is your family members choice to wether or not they quit smoking.

All you can do is keep trying to convince them. Smokers are stubborn people (I know because I used to be one of them).

Let them know how much you and the rest of the family love them. Let them know the pain you will all go through if you were to lose them.

Laying on a big guilt trip is a hard thing to do but it may be your only option.

If you can, try to guide them to our blog. It has some really great ideas and information. This may help.

Never stop trying to persuade them, if you quit then they sure as hell won-t.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
There are many ways to help like the patch, gum and even medication from the doctor and on the internet at the american lung association website. The most important thing that your family member will need is support, patience and tolerance to the mood swings. Best of luck to the person who is quitting it-s not easy at all. There appetite will increase so encourage that person to eat healthy snacks and not substitute eating for smoking. There are plenty of resources out there. I was recently in the hospital and asked for the patch. I was there 3 days and didn-t have a craving at all. If the patch doesn-t work, try using the gum. DO NOT SMOKE while on the patch or gum or there could be serious side effects.
