pour some water on whatever is smoking and it will extinguish the fire , if your talking about quitting smoking in a more normal sense here is the next best sarcastic answer I can come up with, don-t buy any more, don-t take any from your friends, don-t pick them up. don-t put them in your mouth, don-t light them, and if you do put them out, don-t breath them in, because if you do you are smoking and you should stop immediately, because they are bad for you, the best way to stop smoking is to just stop, anything else is the same thing as that just a varying version of it, you know what you have to do, I wanna quit as well, go get on the patch ask your doctor hell, I don-t know but I am sure the answer is in there somewhereEverytime u feel u want to smoke grab a glass of water insteadonli stop smoke and reed books about what hapening with smokers, I stoped smoke. and am the happynest :)That-s up to you, you just have to be ready and committed to stop. The hardest part of it is just saying, -today I-m not going to have anymore cigarettes.- Picking a date never worked for me because it-s arbitrary....when YOU are ready, you can do it.
I-ve used the patch and that seems to help, but the biggest hurdle is mental not physical. It-s more of a reinforcement that I-m not going to smoke anymore than anything.
The best way is to change any habits that trigger smoking behavior. Take a different way to work if you smoke in the car, brush your teeth first if you have a smoke first thing in the morning, avoid the bars or go to a non-smoking one, drink tea instead of coffee, keep a piece of gum in your mouth. It sounds stupid, but it works.
The most important componant of changing your behavior to stop smoking is exercise in my opinion. If you are working out you won-t want to smoke. I started taking Kung-fu and it helped tremendously both from a physical and mental standpoint.
That said, I quit smoking for 1.5 years, but started again when I had a period of stress in my life. Told myself I would quit again in a few weeks, but that stretched into 8 months and on top of it I stopped working out, etc... Now I-m thirteen days into quitting again. You have to take one day at a time where you don-t allow yourself to smoke. It-s easy to fall back down that slope into becoming a full time smoker again.Like, it depends on the number of cigarettes you smoke every day.
One of my friends spent lots of time with his family, cos they don-t smoke, and kicked the butt during a couple of weeks- vacation in Bangkok, But then, he is a student, and has the luxury of time for a holiday, and he barely smoked 2 a day.
Keeping something to chew on, could be nice. Perhaps keeping a last smoke date would be a good idea. Like saying to oneself, --after 30th Aug, I am not going to smoke any more.-
Almost everyone says that gradual weaning doesn-t work.
By the way, are nicotine strips addictive???Find a substitute for example eat something else which is healthy to ur body. Initially it would be tough but eventually u will get used to it. All the best of luck!the first step is to really want to quit. unless your gungho on quitting youll never do it. people associate everyday activities with smoking e.g morning coffee, reading the newspaper, driving, ect. so try to stay away from the thing you associate smoking with. also try to find alternatives to smoking. if you smoke under stress try a stressball or gum. if its pscological, say if its the action of smoking try chewing on a pen or stir stick. but always remeber you need to WANT to quit.dont smokeSet up a planned day, get rid of all smoke related reminders, find a support person and stay away from smoke triggers. Such as a bar, a party etc.
I answered this question last month. I-ll just add, buy the paperback from the amer. cancer assoc. -21 days to quit smoking- Good luckJust stop..no gimics..I found that my will was the thing that helped me quit..also having my hands busy all the time and gum..or life savers..=)Patches, and the gum for in between! they say that smokers who quit by cold turkey always end up smoking again!
Willpower is the key though!
Good Luck and Good choice!
Quick!Cold turkey... Did it 25 years ago... Glad i did...you have to want to quit, personal will, quit for yourself and not for others. and maybe aviod the bars for a while... also, it-s much easier to quit while you you-re sick, assuming you dont smoke with a sore throat. best of luckstop cold turkeyWhat IS the best way to stop smoking? -

What do you think about people who cant stop smoking? -
What do you think about people who cant stop smoking? -
iono, i just think of people who smoke are kinda bad people, or i mean not bad, but i mean, like lazy, or irresponsible...They-re not bad people, I used to smoke, failed in a couple quit attempts. It-s weakness, nothing else.I feel that they are stupid to have started.I feel sorry for them, because they-re hurting themselves. We are all human ? to err is human and smoking or drinking or drugs, even sex, is addictive. Please stop looking down on us -addicts-, I am weak...I think they have the hardest task in the world. If you have research the matter at all you would know it is the hardest think to kick and I-ve never tried Heroin, but it is supposed to be harder than that. I am a smoker and pray each time I light one up. My prayer will be answered when God is ready, and I try enough.I always liked smoking, and the only reason I quit was living or dying. If I find out that I have to go anyway, I will start smoking again.I cant stop smoking,so what do you think of methey are addicted...........just like meIt would have to be pity. Why does smoking make me lazy or irresponsible? I have no self control?
Are you kidding me?
So the fact that I work over 50 hours a week must mean Im LAZY? I haven-t missed a day of work for over 5 years, I-ve been at my job for 7 years, I pay rent and my bills on time. So I must be IRRESPONSIBLE?
If I was lazy, irresponsible, and had no self control, I would be out stealing from people because I didnt feel like working for it.
Smoking, to me, means that at one point in my life I had a lapse in good judgement.
Doesnt that happen to EVERYONE over the course of life?
NObody is bad because they smoke. Anyone who would think that way is a damn fool.I read an interesting article yesterday that indicates that smoking is strongly linked to depression. Not that all smokers are depressed. More so that smokers use nicotine to keep jump starting their mood if they are the kind that is addicted. (this is what you are describing). Smoking like drinking is a sort of self-medication.
The person that can-t stop smoking may have a reason or a mood problem. They may need more to calm them down than others. This can be traced to the genetic background of the individual.
Of course, some people just like to smoke, but for those that can-t quit, it is possible that they need something to replace the -happy- feeling that they get from the nicotine.
Patches are constant doses and do not give the high that smokers like. Zyban can help and if give w/the patch has been shown to have a relatively high success rate.
Don-t think bad about these people. It is hard to quit an addiction and not everyone is addicted as much to smoking.they don-t really want to quitidiots, thats what they are, and their smoking bothers other people too, they-re burning money and their health too.I get frustrated at my husband, and tell him sometimes, but as I don-t want to nag, it-s a hard one.
However, I over eat, and when I say anything about the smell - he brings that up. Shuts me up every time.they r gross and just stupied 4 even startinI think it hasn-t become important enough to stop yet.It-s a sad addiction. But, with today-s media, there-s no way they can start without knowing the health complications. That makes them people who lack will power. They started smoking because they thought it-s -cool-.... no other reason.Anyone can change any habit that they want to change. I could stop smoking if I wanted to but I enjoy it and dont want to stop.1 - they are dumb for starting in the first place
2 - they have no self control
3 - they probably have bad teeth, smelly clothes and a smelly housei think people who don-t smoke don-t know anything about smoking beside what they hear and don-t know the true addiction one gets from smoking
i think ones who smoke know the risk, and is their choice to continue
Bad choice
in conclusion half of the people you meet tomorrow will be smokers, either accept that or move on, in the end all who judge are to be judged
aren-t we alli think they need all the support they can get if they are trying to stop. if they arent all the badgering in the world is not going to get them to stop. in fact, it will just make it worse.I feel, we need your help..prayer..support.what do i think lol thats a silly question i have smokes cigaretes and been delivered from that and drinking you dont need any programs all u need is godIts an addiction that needs time and patience to quit. I do feel sorry for them but I don-t think they are gross. People get addicted to so many things, some to good things and some to bad.Can-t stop or won-t stop? Can-t, it-s addictive, won-t, they don-t want to, and they have that right.i think im weak and stupid. mind over addictionI think they-re people just like the rest of us. The average person has to try to quit smoking 9 times before they actually succeed. I-ve got a few habits I-d like to break myself but have had trouble doing so.
What I really feel, though, is very sad when I see people I care about smoking. The world needs them and they-re going to leave it much too soon.They-re burning their money and destroy their body. Isn-t they stupid.I actually feel sorry for them and offer them support in trying to quit. People seem to forget that it is a physical addiction.
I-ve never been a smoker, but I do recognize that people often do dumb things when they are young, and I don-t think it-s right to put them down, especially when they are *trying* to make a change for the better.not cool if you want to be cool dont smokeEvidently you have never had an addiction before,Because let me tell ya it-s harder that you think to just up and quit ex specially if your depressed. Most people that quit smoking replace that addiction with food then they become obesity like that-s healthier ha?What do you think about people who cant stop smoking? -
