How can i help my mom stop smoking.......? -

i hate smoke so much it hurts my throat and eyes. she smokes about 5 cigarettes aday down from a pack ady, but now she seems to be stuck on 5 a day for the last few months. she has nicotine gum, but always refuses to useit. wheni tell her to use the gum she claims it just makes her want to smoke more. she is always complaining that when i ask her when she is gonna quit or when she is going to at least try the gum she bought it just makes her more nervous and wan tto smoke more. but if i dont ask her these quetions it seems like shell never quit and perhaps she will eventually go back up to a pack ady, what should i do?Start talking about her WILL in case she dies soon. If you are under 18 ask her what will happen to you if she has a stroke, especially if she-s on birth control pills. Talk about death and health. Does she have yellow teeth? That is a result of smoking.

Don-t give up on her. Also give her positive attention--nothing doing about smoking, but about other things she does that you like (meals, her clothes, her sense of humor, how much you like to be with her.) Good luck.Try this pill called Chanix.

My family has tried patches and everything and they don-t work.

but my aunt went on Chanix and she hasn-t smoked for 8 weeks.

I-m soo proud of her..

Try it out.. it works.take her to counsellingyou cant make her do it she has to want to for herself im a smoker and i know im not ready to give up, if ur mums not ready to or dosnt want to theres nothing u can do hun u cannot force things its hard i know she will have to in her own time good luck xxxmy grandpa used certs, but I don-t see how that helpssmokers are very stubborn people, my sister wont quit no matter how much i nag, your mums on 5 that aint too bad, just keep begging hopefully shell give in, tell her how proud u r already and that youd b rapped if she quit all 2getherMove out.I don-t know if there is alot you can do you can-t really make someone stop smoking believe me I know, I-ve tried to get my dad to stop smoking too I still do to this day but nothing, he did try and quit before but it didn-t last I don-t know what to do, but now I try to get him to go to the doctors to get his lungs checked but nope. So you can keep trying if you find a way to get your mom to stop smoking let me know how you did it so I can try it on my dad.

Heather.

I recently stopped smoking and all I wanna do is eat? -

i have recently stopped smoking and all I wanna do is eat =] i try and stay busy with work and all but, it isn-t helping i stay hungry and i don-t know why..so i was wondering if anyone knew of any kinds of food i could eat that wasn-t as fattening or not fattening at all..because i don-t wanna gain a lot of weight..i have been trying too just eat rice but, it-s beginning too get old i wanna try different things i eat fruit and things like that but i just need an idea of some foods that may fill me up but wont cause me too gain alot fo weight..thanksTry eating beef jerky. It takes a while to chew.

Start an excerise program as well, somthing you enjoy.

Its not uncommon when someone quits smoking to gain weight.Common reaction to quitting smoking, immediate weight gain. That`s because cravings r substituted with food. Weight should taper off once ur body acclimates to the lack of nicotine. Just eat ur regular meals as before, but instead of snacking in-between on sweets and goodies, cut up celery and carrot sticks and apples to munch on. If u have the time, walking is a great way to not only burn calories but is invigorating to ur well being. Congrats on quitting !No, don-t smoke. Celery is the one thing that you can eat as much of as you like, and never gain an ounce. Unless it is covered in cream cheese. Eat raw foods, they will fill you up.Jello - lots of water - lots of veggies ETCCongratulations on quitting. The best thing you can do for yourself. There will be some weight gain once you quit smoking. That is natural. That is what my doctor told me. It will level off as long as you do some kind of exercise. Don-t go back to smoking.Drink lots of iced water. Take ice cubes in your mouth and slowly disolve them or eat them or shaved ice. Chew sugarless gum. Keep a toothpick at hand and chew on it. Having something in your mouth will help. And the water will keep you full. Eat protein. It is more filling than carbs. I buy sliced ham (light) and eat it slowly. one slice has only 30 or 35 calories. Eat rice cakes. You can nibble on them for a long time. Like you, I had a hard time trying to quit but those cravings will eventually become less and less. Just keep going and don-t go back. You will be so much happier after stopping. You will smell things better, breathe better, and best of all you will not be a danger to you, your loved ones or the people around you. Congratulations!I quit, too!!! we-re a bunch of quitters... lol

I used Chantix and didn-t really get the food craving but I did let myself eat whatever the heck I wanted. I mean, we-re talking about quitting smoking here!! I can always work out and start loosing weight after I really get over the smoking. Its a bad side effect, but true
everyone complains about the same thing,,,,alwaystry chewing gumi have one friend whose weight was 100kg when he was 12...when he was 16...he weighs around 55kg to 60kg...
then i asked him what he had done to himself...
strictly all boiled food....chicken soup..no oil added...skinned chicken breast only...., boiled or steamed vegetables...with lots of fruits as supper...in addition...he also went for a jog every morning.....he had not taken any pills or any form of weight trimmer stuff...
hopefully these food won-t increase your weight...
By the way, congrats...for being able to stop smoking...Yes for some this is normal as the body is craving nicotine , so you eat to settle the bodies nerves. Try and avoid the situations where you would have smoked like after a meal etc ,So once you have eaten dinner then go for a brisk walk or rather than eat when you feel like eating when you should not ,go walking or busy your self with some thing to take your mind off food.
Foods that you need would have to be low in carb and sugars ,Sugar free sweets are one way. Fruits , veg,
Chew a stick of Celery when you feel the urge to snack as you can eat as much of this as humanly possible and not gain any weight
Keep up on the no smoking and don`t fool your self that you will gain to much weight as this is the one reason a lot of people use to start smoking again. It is very hard to give up ,and once your health improves then you will start an exercise program or join a gym with the money you save on smokes.
I am an ex smoker 50-60 a day and know what you are going through. So keep on with your Quitting.Well, if you don-t want to gain, you have to eat at least 5-6 times a day, small portions. (e.g. wake up and have cerial with non fat milk, after two hours have a little bit of cheese with one fruit of your choice, etc) Do not eat a lot at once. Keep your mouth moving just to satisfy yourself. Drink a lot of water and exercise. If you do this you will stay in shape and even lose waight. Good luckI quit smoking almost an entire year ago now, I smoked for 7 years and it was a painful first couple of months. Just hang in there and they say that you probably won-t gain more than 5pds when you quit smoking. 5 pounds VS having part of your lung removed or death, i-d take the love handle.

Exercise is an exellent way to stay busy, healthy, keep off the weight, and it wakes up those rusty old lungs and fills them up with air, which will help. Drinking water also helps keep you full and will help flush out the nicotine. Good LuckThis isn-t exactly what you were looking for as far as food goes, but you might try just sucking on hard candies. If the sugar is a problem, get sugar free. I went through exactly what you-re going through and candy and gum helped me alot. Hopefully it can help you too. Good luck and congratulations on quitting!!! = )this happened to me. I stopped smoking in Dec. 2006 and I gained about 30 pounds, no lie. I was EATING everything esp. at nite. Try to eat graham crackers, sugar free jello, rice cakes, Special K cereal bars, baked chicken, and fat free pudding. They aren-t great chocies but it beats McDonald-s and Ben n Jerry-s! Eventually you will just have to take control again (I felt like I was outta control) and focus. Now I have to work hard to lose the weight now that I-ve realized how I was eating so much :( good luck.Better weigh yourself every day. Quitting smoking causes you to gain 15-20 pounds in the first 6 months. Just think, you can get a whole new wardrobe.It-s good you-ve stopped smoking! I-ve never tried it myself but my dad however was a smoker for many years. Here-s what he did when he quit the habit: he had a craving to eat so he chewed on some gum (any gum would do for him), when the urge to smoke was really too much to bear, he-d grab a cigarette stick and would just start biting it, he never lit a stick... he just wanted it in his mouth. Dad also kept himself busy , he-d go on hikes and hunting trips to forget he ever smoked. It worked for him and it might just work for you. Good luck on that big decision in your life! I hope you never go back to smoking again.its because smoking kills ur appitite
don-t smoke again
but don-t go crazy on the eating, thats jumping from one bad habit to the next
eat lots of low gi foods eg wholemeal breads and cereals
keeps u full for longersmoking gives you the stresshave you tried that gum for people trying to stop smoking .. its gonna be hard but you can do it my mother died of cancer and it because she smoked . she had so much pain i saw her through all her pain hey if you gain weight you can loose it if you get cancer you can loose your life .... which do you prefer....thats what i thought . good luckgain in appetite is NORMAL when the smoke stops--your appetite suppressant (nicotine) is stopped. This will also go away shortly--and your health will be MUCH BETTER now that you made a REALLY SMART DECISION. Your ability to TASTE food will also improve with each passing day that you do NOT smoke.eat a lot of ice cream and fast foods, don-t stop eating what u like, just stay active and exercisethen smoke, theres an overpopulation problem on the world so stupid idiots that voluntarily ingest things that will kill them should just die
