It has been roughly 3 weeks since I stopped smoking cold turkey, is it normal that I have gotten sick twice? -

At first I had a sore throat and was coughing heaps. Over Christmas it felt like I had a cold, and since this morning it feels like I have another cold....Good for you, the sickness is normal...The only way you can seriously injure yourself is by stopping an extreme alcohol addiction.not really. well depends on how long you were a smoker for. some smokers after quitting about 2 or 3 weeks get massive luggies, really bad breath but its all normal since your lungs are trying to get rid of all those toxins and nasty stuff. youre body might just be trying to adjust itself to the sudden change and it you keep on getting sick or too sick, make sure you consult your doctor for it might be something serious too. and whatever you do, make sure you STAY OFF THE DAMN CIGS!!! i envy you brother im a smoker myself and having a hard time trying to quitit-s probably your body reacting to not having nicotine in your system. if it continues, however, you should probably see a doctor.Sometimes the cigarette smoke kills the germs that might otherwise give you a sore throat. I had a friend who quit and got tonsilitis the same week and had to be hospitalised.

This is normal, and you are doing fantastic, ok? Hang in there. IT-ll be over soon, and your lungs will start getting rid of all the poisons and you-ll feel better.

Congratulations on making such a brave decision, and quitting smoking. You rock.I have never had this happen when I quit but I have heard about it many times. They claim that within a few weeks you will cough like you never coughed before. This is your body cleaning your lungs out. Good for you for quitting, it-s a hard thing to doRide the wave dude you-ll feel better for it on the other side!
Evil Weed!First off, Congrats!
Good luck with not smoking.

Quitting is the best thing you could do for yourself and your family and future.

When your body goes through a drastic change like nicotine withdrawal, you are under stress and your immune system slows. Your body is also clearing everything out. It has built protective layer from smoking in your lunch and for a while you will be getting rid of all that nastiness.

It is normal to get sick easily when you quit smoking. It is also the season for colds and it seems like the people who are getting sick are the same as you, feeling continuous sickness.

If you continue to get sick, visit our doc, but I want to encourage you to visit your local health food center where there is a professional than can recommend something to help your body cleanse itself.

There are herbs in pill form, teas etc that can help your body relieve itself of toxins you need to shed from smoking.I have read that people often cough after quitting smoking. It-s the lungs- way of getting rid of all the gunk that was in there. I-m sorry you-re not feeling well but it-s great that you-ve quit smoking!Congratulations! Would be nice if the health benefits of quitting was instant. Alas, not so. Quitting smoking means your body now has the chance to clear out a lot of accumulated toxins. These toxins are on the move and can be a burden to your immune system and make you more vulnerable to any of the bugs that are going around. Take good care of yourself, lots of rest, healthy food and antioxidants to support your body-s efforts to clean out all the accumulated debris from your cigarette habit. Every day you remain a nonsmoker your body becomes cleaner and gains strength.

The longer you smoked, the greater your toxic load, the longer it takes the body to clear the toxins out. Lots of great health tips out there for detoxing if you are game to do some reading. The simplest tip is redundant, but here goes: eat healthy, drink lots of water, adequate exercise and rest. Take good care and good luck.Congrats to you and keep up the good work!!.It is your body trying to get rid of those unhealthy toxinsI think its normal to be coughing lots as you are getting rid of some of the crap that has been put in your lungs. Your body and especially your lungs will be trying to get back to normal.Congratz;; the something my parents wont do =(
but it really is normal, my best friend who started at a young age (he is still young) decided to quit for his own sake

he experinced sore throat and colds alot
but its just because of the lack of nicotineThats just the withdrawl symptoms well actually its the recovery symptoms, youre doing great, congratulations and hang in there ok?

Why dont I want to quit smoking? -

Why dont I want to quit smoking? -

I want to want to quit smoking. I just ..don-t want to stop smoking? I know how contradictory that is. I want to just want to stop, but I just don-t right now!
It-s ridiculously expensive over time, and I know it will kill me. It-s unattractive and stinky and will stain my teeth. So why don-t I want to quit? Besides what I know, is there any way I can make myself actually want to quit?Wow, James is pretty ignorant when he says that their hasn-t been any scientific research regarding a relation between smoking and lung cancer. Of course their has! There-s tons supporting that connection, and if you just thought for a moment, it is obviously right. Inhaling any kind of smoke is bad for your lungs, especially over a long period of time.

Why are some people saying that you have to hit rock bottom? That shouldn-t be the case. You obviously want to quit, so you have the -will- to quit.

It sounds like you haven-t had a go at attempting to quit. You can-t decide that it-s going to be hard for you before you even try. Have a go! There-s nothing to lose. You could try some patches or nicotine gum. The addiction part comes from nicotine, but I would think the horrible part of cigarettes is the actual smoke. So you are still getting your addiction fulfilled.

Good luck!If you don-t have the true will to stop, you won-t. You can buy patches and gum, but if you don-t have that will to quit, they are useless. I smoke and I enjoy smoking. What I do is I control the cigarettes, they don-t control me. The Bible says do everything in moderation, which simply means don-t over indulge. Ten cigarettes is no worse for you than ten beers or ten shots of whiskey, or ten sugary products through out the day. If you don-t want to stop, then control them. There is no laboratory results that prove that smoking causes lung cancer. Ask a hair stylist if they know anyone who has asthma or always coughing. They will tell you most likely yes. Isn-t any of them that smoke, it-s the hair spray they constantly breathe. In Hints of Heloise, a woman couldn-t remember the cleaner she recommended for getting the build up of hair spray off her counter top in the bathroom. If it builds up there, where else would it build up, you are right, the lungs. Women should use a Doctors mask when spraying their hair with hair spray. Wishing you the very best young lady and good luck on accomplishing your goals.I recommend the book, -Changing for Good.- It is a self-help program based on sound scientific research into how people change themselves. The program has been used to increase the percentage of people who successfully quit smoking and lose weight, among other things.

According to this program, you are in the -Precontemplation- stage. The book tells you what all six stages are and gives several techniques at each stage to help you move yourself to the next stage.

Here is a page that describes it briefly:

The only way is to hit bottom. When I quit I was smoking two at a time and not knowing it and I was craving one when I was smoking one. I hated it when some one would say lets go to so and so-s house and I would have to see if I had enough sigs to do that.........On day I just stopped and never looked back..........good luckBecause it-s addictive! Talk to your doctor and try going on the patch and/or try chewing that nicorette gum. Don-t just automatically stop smoking, cut back on them.. and then that will lead to not smoking at all.Smoke so much that you can-t afford it anymore so then you become really addicted and poor so that you have to quit.but a thing on your hand saying like sad stuff and make like your sis or mum or something break it and it would be fun and ea t like junk food insteadIt seem like its not your time now BUT it can be YOUR time.
