Cold Turkey my friend! It is hard as sh%# but worth it. All those gums, patches, pills and such just extend the nicotine addiction. You are not actually getting better you are just switching the form you are addicted to. I quit with my boyfriend which helped alot. We suffered through months of agony. For a while I couldn-t even engage in a normal conversation because all I could think about was how much I wanted a cigarette. Here are a couple things that worked for me.1. The average cigarette obsession lasts about 2min. Sometimes a bunch line up in a row but when you feel one coming on look at your watch and think -2min in exchange for the rest of my life-
2. Do it one day at a time. If you cheat, don-t say F^-* it and buy a pack, just keep trying. Wake up each day and tell yourself you just have to make it to bed that night. You can smoke tomorrow (of course tomorrow never comes becuase it is always today)
When I first started I set my goals small, I just had to make it one hour, I-ll smoke next hour. Pretty soon I had 24 hours in a row, then 365 days in a row.
3. Pick a quit date and taper off up until that day. If you smoke a pack a day try to get it down to 3 or 4 a day before you quit. It makes the withdrawal much easier.
It has been 2yrs since I smoked. I still think about it sometimes, but it has stopped being a daily, or even weekly thought. I hope I never smoke again. I used to do some nasty drugs many years ago and Tobacco was harder to quit than crystal meth! It is so socially acceptable that the temptation is everywhere. Don-t let anyone tell you it is easy. Good luck! You have to want it. Toughest thing I ever did was quit smoking. GOOD LUCK!It`s not that hard -- I did it (cold turkey). You have to want to stop. Good Luck! You can do it.My dad recently quit smoking after 50 years. He-s tried many times before to no avail. I think you have to really want it badly enough. Good luck to you and don-t quit quitting! It takes more than simply pills, patches, etc...you really have to make a personal effort to quit...try smoking less and less each day, then less each week, then less each month, until you finally stop. Also, ask friends or family to help by encouraging you to not smoke. It really just comes down to will power. Good Luck!Whenever it comes to ur mind. u just say these words in ur mind:
-I Don-t like Smoking -
or
-Smoking? What-s that?-
Mind it. it really works, on me as well.you can try throwing out what you have and not buying anymore, you can do this if you WANT to stop...Nothing is making you smoke you are choosing to, don-t let it control you, YOU decide when you are done smoking...I smoked a pack - half everyday of Camel Wides. If they gave me lights, I gave them back. I WANTED ALL THE NICOTINE I COULD GET IN A PUFF!!!This is how I quit 2 years ago: I got -Nicoderm- clear patches - started with the 21mg. If I got the slightest urge to smoke,I put another 21mg. patch on the other arm, and God as my witness, it took the urge away completely. Don-t just put 2 on at once, and don-t buy the cheap brands cuz they don-t work as well. Put 1 on and when you feel you may want a cig, then put the other on. Then remove the 1st one 24 hours from when you put it on and leave the other on. Now that one becomes the next to go - when you get an urge, and it will -barely- be an urge, put another one on. Pretty soon, you-ll be able to only use 1 per day. After about 2 months, you-ll want to go to the lower levels, but don-t rush into the lower one until you are ready...Stay away from the smoke as much as possible until you are off the patch. It has been a little over 2 years and I am so happy I don-t smoke now :) When I quit I said to my boyfriend:-Let-s give each other the gift of life, at least 10 more years with each other-. Pray also...Good luck - God bless your endeavor.i know what you mean. the doctors told me im gonna die soon if i dont stop, have had angioplasty and i still cant quit. i wish i had a good answer for you. the stuff can get a terrible hold on you.you can try being hynotized, i hear that worksYou have to have a good support system and really want to quit. It is a mind control issue... I wanted to quit, so I built myself a support system and had the will power to do so. I wish you the best of luck and hope you succeed.
