How can I make my parents stop smoking?-DESCRIPTION-? -
They smoke almost every 10 minutes. And they both have fatal, bad diseases. My mom has lupus, where she can-t fight anything off, and it affects her major organs. She has epilepsy too; Doctors say it-s because of a bad car wreck when she flew out the windshield ^^. My dad has heart disease and has already had a heart attack. He-s only 46. My Mom is 37. They smoke out in the garage every hour, at the very minimum. They smoke in the car. They smoke, smoke, smoke. Like a pack a day. And more. And my mom is on a diet which is great, and my dad did have a HORRIBLE diet, and it-s still not at it-s best, but he-s doing a lot better. It really hurts me really bad to watch them do that and I hate talking bad about his diet, but that-s something you probably need to know. I-m just really really worried watching them do that and I-m never gonna do that. But they smoke near us and I don-t wanna suffer from their bad decisions. My aunt stopped smoking, without using anything. They always say -i know, i-mma try to quit- and that they know it-s bad. But they never do. If this continues, I know they will die young. It-s hard to say and think, but it-s the truth and I want to change that. My dads already had a heart attack and he is middle aged! It-s because of smoking and the diet. I always tell them but they get mad at me usually when I say something. And they have bad mood swings and sometimes I just want them to just go smoke because until they do they are in a bad mood because of the addiction to nicotine. It-s a bad example and I think it-s gross. They say if they knew the dangers back then that they wouldn-t have started. But I think it-s time they quit. What do they do? How do I convince them? I know it-s up to them but they won-t do it all themselves. I have tried really hard. Please help, I-m very very worried. They smoke A LOT, I mean..A LOT. Tell me how to fix it.If you have not already addressed the problem to your parents about them smoking I should highly recommend that you do so. Take the time out to tell them if they keep on exhibiting that bad habit it-s going to ruin their lives as well as ruin their relationship with you. When you do, though, don-t do it in an attitude. Simply sit them both down and handle it like an adult. If your parents see you behaving and addressing the problem maturely, they will see that you really want them to change for the the better and to bring the family back together.
Hopes this helps!!!Show them a picture of a healthy heart and a heart that has been affect by lung cancer. Then look into their eyes and start crying. :)It is not possible.
It is more difficult to give-up smoking than heroin.
Smokers are selfish people who would deprive their children of a pair of shoes, or food in order to buy tobacco products.
If by any chance they do decide to giveup, then it is up to them !
All the photos of diseased lungs dripping with tar will not have the slightest effect on them. Here is a solution
Start smoking in front of them (I M NOT JOKING ) in a fake manner.
I am sure they-ll ask you to stop
Then you may reply that children are the reflection of parents and the commit the same things as their parents.
This will surely compel them to think and introspect themselvesYou can-t fix it and it-s not your job to fix it. Smoking is an addiction and most people can-t just quit. That-s like telling a heroin addict to just quit. They can-t. They CAN-T.
They are adults and they make their own choices. Stay away from the secondhand smoke as best you can. But stop nagging them and just love them. Otherwise when they are gone your memories will all be of fighting. Make some happy memories while you can. You can-t stop people from destroying themselves with addictive substances. The only person-s behavior that you can control is your own.
But you probably understand why it is so stupid for kids to start smoking. These days all the dangers ARE known but they do it anyway. You can-t just quit anytime you want. Once you start, you are a slave to the tobacco industry. At this point, your parents get more relief from smoking and they would get tremendous pain from trying to stop, even the fear of early death is not enough to outweigh the pain of trying to quit.I wouldn-t try an intellectual answer. They know it-s bad for them.
Tell them how much it hurts you to see them smoking. And that you are scared of what will happen to you because you are afraid they will die young. And of course that you love them and can-t bear to see what they are doing to themselves.
They can quit cold turkey. My dad did it, never went back. They need a good reason. You are the reason. good luckYou can tell them that it makes you feel sick to have to smoke around you, and ask them not to do it when you are around.
As you-re only thirteen, I don-t think they will harbor resentment towards you because of this, and when the act of smoking becomes something they have to keep away from their daughter, it may shed a new light on it for them, and make them want to quit more.Shelby, go to the nearest high school in your location. They have excellent films on smoking, lungs, doctor reports, and
information from reformed smokers. I smoked for 36 years, and if I exercise or walk I must use oxygen. I even run it at night to help me sleep. I think the films will impact them better than any lecture you can give or their doctor. Breaking the nicotine habit is worse than coming off of Heroin , the drug is that powerful. By the way a qualified nurse told me that through her years of experience. Most smokers are not capable or even interested in quitting although the vast majority are very sorry they ever started.
Perhaps you may just have to accept the fact that it is very highly unlikely they will ever quit. Most smokers know what the dangers are but they keep smoking regardless. They live for today and don-t worry too much about tomorrow. How can I make my parents stop smoking?-DESCRIPTION-? -

Recentely i stopped smoking since about 5 weeks ago. ive been feeling great ever since. ive been feeling angry at times and coughing alot, more then i coughed when i smoked. i think its because its a withdrawl? can someone tell me why.yes these are withdrawal symptoms.
Some smokers get I-ll if they go cold turkey but wouldn-t suggest doing that.
You will feel a lot more tiredand when you do exercise you will crave nicotine so bad its nearly unbearable.
But answer to your question, yes they are all symptoms.
Good for you! Quitting is tough, I know I-ve been there!
Anyway hope you sucessfully quit.
Good luck. You-ll need itThis one is super easy! Although I have never been a smoker, the answer is quite simple. Within your lungs there is a system that brings up mucus, dust that you breath, or anything that might be inhaled throughout the day. This system constantly brings junk up and out of your lungs for you to spit or swallow. When you smoke, the system gets stunned and that is the reason for most Lung Cancer in smoking patients. After you stop smoking, the system slowly starts to turn back on. The coughing is a good thing even though it may be annoying. Nothing odd or irregular in the case of someone quiting. As for the weight loss, it could be to withdraws from smoking and maybe even your brain taking it out on the feeling of -hunger- or -crave- Stay strong man, good choice to stop smoking for sure!losing weight is an unusual side effect - the rest is your body healing - the coughing the increased energy.
good for you - happy you are seeing the paybacks. ps anger unfortunately is an issue as your body balks and complains that the usual stuffing effects of smokes are gone - but it should pass and you may have issues that you never dealt with before cause you would just smoke them away.
ps the anger and coughing do go away in time - w/in 6 mos or less you will be good as new.Is this what happens when i stop smoking.? -

Stop smoking pills...? -
2 of my co workers went to the doctor. and the doctor gave them a pill
they told me it was a one time pill. they keep on smoking normally then after a couple of days they stopped. i was wondering if anybody knows the name of this.
i been smoking for 3 1/2 years now and a ready to quit.It might be the new -Chantix- medicine.
I am currently on it, and it works the best. There are a couple of other medicines, but Chantix is the best one of them all from my opinion.
*EDIT*
Listen, for the -willpower- folks, it does take dedication, but straight will power does not always work. If you think a medicine will help you, then take it, don-t let other people tell you that you don-t need pills, etc.
The worse thing to come out of taking the pill Chantix, is that you would be out 40 bucks if it didn-t work. It has the highest success rate out of any of the medicines, it is the newest on the market.
The medicine works by actually stopping the nicotine receptors in the brain. After a few days, it makes smoking a cigarette taste really bad, and you become to a point to where you just do not want one any more. No patches, etc to worry about. You don-t get in a bad mood, etc.
You can take the medicine from 1 month - 6 months, depending on how much you smoke. I smoke a pack a day, and after a month, I will stop the medicine. I quit smoking the second day that I started the pill. There isn-t a pill like that honestly lol.
What I CAN tell you from experience is Wellbutrin helps you quit. I went from smoking a carton a week to half a carton (or less) in a week (and I know quite a few people who have quit altogether). I can-t explain it but you just do NOT have the desire to smoke and you don-t even think about cigs. I think it helps it-s an antidepressant. You dont need pills or anything but willpower to stop smoking.A trip to the local cancer ward might help though.hi these tablets are called champix in the uk.. i smoked for 45 years and stopped in two weeks with these...good luck they are for real e mail me if you wishThis is a long one so bear with me. I went down this same road 3 times and failed miserably. Your friends will probably start up again one day if they stop taking that pill.
You could try what everyone else does. Make promises to quit, have nic fits, stop, start, backslide, nicoderm patches, gain weight due to oral fixations, become irritable and essentially have to build a tower of iron will to fight the urgest to avoid a 90% recidivism rate.
How to REALLY QUIT SMOKING. Start thinking like an athlete. It isn-t recommended by the surgeon general. it IS recommended by Runner-s World. Doctors are afraid everyone will have heart attacks and sue. If you do this right you will hate smoking, get fit, get addicted to exercise, live longer, reduce stress, improve your eyesight, clean out your lungs and have a good time along with bragging rights.
Sign up for an athletic event such as a 10K or a half marathon. Preparing for the event becomes the goal, and quitting smoking, losing weight, being healthy happen along the way with no conscious effort on your part. Just train to finish that race.
Start running an EASY 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week. (heart rate in the 137-144 BPM range). Increase the time you run by no more that 10% per week. In 12 weeks you-re running for an hour and a half -- that-s at least 8 miles each time. If you can run 8 miles at conversational pace (zone 2 above) then you can certainly finish a 13 mile half marathon. In 16 weeks you-ll be capable of doing a sub 4 hour marathon.
(You can get a heart rate monitor for $40 that should do the trick and there are articles about -training in zone 2- all over the internet.) To avoid injury, take 2 days off a week. If something starts to hurt (besides your lungs and your sides) below the waist, slow down or walk.
Now after the first 5 days and 18 hard miles later you can run 30 minutes non-stop. You want a cigarette -- there is nothing to stop you except that 1 cigarette will wipe out 10% of your conditioning for the week. Smoke 10 and you wasted the entire week of exercise and your ability to run 3 miles/30 minutes non-stop has been washed down the tubes. If you want a cigarette, go find your running shoes and run till the feeling goes away if you can. If you can-t run, remind yourself that you-re going to destroy your conditioning very quickly if you even put a hand on that cigarette. My guess is that if you have success in running the first week and you are actually of the mind that you are training for a race in lets say 12 weeks, SMOKING is the LAST thing you-ll be considering.
By the way you can do cycling or swimming instead but not all people have access to a bike or pool and there are fewer of those events to enter. There-s a 5K, or 10K race every Saturday within 10 miles of anyone.
To help you get started, check out -Chi running- by Danny Dryer or check videos of people that practice Chi Running. For swimming check out Total Immersion by Terry Laughlin.
I think the endorphins released from endurance sports help override nicotine-s grip. After you-ve been running for a while you have waaay too much to lose, and if you take a drag from a cigarette I guarantee, you-ll start to puke up your gatorade.Stop smoking pills...? -

The problem is I am feeling so bloody depressed at the moment and one of the reasons is the weight gain. I am going to the gym and working my **** off literally, not eating anymore than I did when I smoked in fact I-m eating less, so why can-t I get into any of my clothes and why have I put so much weight on. Went on NHS quit-line they didn-t know found them frustrating and useless. So if anyone can shed some light onto this or what I-m doing wrong. I-m now so depressed about everything I feel like comfort eating. By the way I have never had a problem with my weight in the past and have never been on a diet.stress causes weight gain and water retention... you are fine, give it more time, you will reset your system eventually. I-m weening currently but this is my first attempt. I-m trying to cut back more and more, I-m down from half a pack a day to about 2 ... so that is good, but I am feeling the effects you are too.
And half a pack seems like a lot now for me, but three years ago in college I was going through like 2 packs a day easy. You are doing soooooooooo well, keep it up. I think the winter is a horrible time to diet anyway. You have just given up what probably was a crutch and you probably miss it, but you want to stay stopped at the same time. Are you sure even if you are eating less -it is less of the right things? With all the money you must be saving on not buying cigarettes - splash out on a new outfit. The health benefits etc will surely outweigh a few pounds. You are doing very well.hmm, this is why i havent tried to stop since my last attemp, well you could get lozenges or chewing gum when ever you feel peckish or an apple.
also when i quit once for a month, i got really boring, just not me, i enjoy smoking, but i know i wont when my lungs pack in so just keep up the good workwell done for stopping smoking if you give it time your body will regulate itself then you will see a difference in your weight dont start smokingNicotine is an appetite suppressant, and that-s all. So you still eating the same amount, but gaining weight won-t be down to the lack of nicotine.
The only thing it could really be is a natural change in your metabolism which comes with age, or perhaps your diet has changed to more fatty foods?
It depends what you do at the gym aswell - stick to mostly cardio and on weights, do High - reps Low - weights to build more LEAN muscle. The more lean muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will be.
Hope this helpsThe formula for losing weight is easy - consume less food and move more often - the issues surface when we really try to put that into practice! There are loads of opportunities to fail in the real world don-t you think?! The one thing which really delivered for me was wu-yi tea, it can be seen in the resource box underneath, they have a small number of free trials left, it has been reported in Fox News and CNN. I melted away 30 pounds, it really does work!I have stopped smoking for 4 weeks now and feel great. BUT...? -
