How long does it take before signs of smoking leave you? -

How long does it take before signs of smoking leave you? -

I realize that was a poorly-phrased sentance...

I have a nose-and-throat appointment coming up in about a month. I am a smoker, usually between 1-3 cigarettes per day. Bash, away, I know it-s bad, etc.

Anyways, I am planning to stop/delay smoking 2 weeks before the appointment so that when they look in my nose they can-t tell that I am a smoker. Smoking ahs nothing to do with my nose issues. It is completely unrelated, and I know that last time I told a doctor that I smoked, they were very cold and rude to me. I don-t want that to happen again.

So: If I stop smoking two weeks before hand, will there still be visible signs that I smoke? Residue in my sinuses or the condition of my throat? I know that the body heals itself after you stop smoking, and just wondered how long it would take?about 2 months before evrything os goodWill think about this. It-s actually fairly accurate. Lets say you been smoking for 2 years... Its gonna take your body 2 years to heal from what you have done from smoking.

This is what my doctor told me but another one I see said sure that is kinda correct but your body will never really heal its self from the damage of smoking.

As while with your certain question about the doctor not finding out if you smoke or not. He is going to probably ask if you smoke if he is checking out your throat. Lying to your doctor only makes more problems in the end.

Your body is not gonna heal after 2 weeks of quitting. I just wouldn-t smoke that day you go and wear clean cloths out of the wash so you don-t smell like old stale cig smoke.Never.sometimes it never does. I won-t bash you. I got to watch lung cancer kill my father. I hope your kids don-t watch the same show.

Ways to help stop smoking? -

I-m 16 years old. I started smoking when i was 14,marlboro reds. It seems impossible to quit and i have tried a few times before. I have had the gum.. it made my mouth tingly and made me feel sick tomy stomach...so i didnt use it. Are there any good ways I can stop smoking? Sometimes I cant even breathe. any help would be really good, thanks =)My step-mom told this trick to my husband when he was trying to quit. When you feel the urge for a smoke, inhale deeply and hold it for a few seconds then let it go in the same way you would if you were smoking a cigarette. Repeat this a few times. The pattern of breathing is often a big part of the addiction. Both my step-mom and my husband found this very helpful when they finally quit. Good luck. The key to stop smoking is having a strong will over the craving. Do you have controll over your body or does the nicotine?

My father smoked for a long time, he quit by eating a dried squid whenever he has a craving. He said chewing on the bitterness of the squid take his mind off the craving.JUST STOP SMOKING! i quit, i can have a cigarette if i want but i don-t need it. quit cold turkey thats the best way, deal with the withdrawal it will suck big time for about a week, and u will want a cigarette for about a month or so, but cold turkey is the best way. Oh, and I quit 5 days after my best friend died so no bull about too much stressDONT SMOKEThink about yourself before you started smoking think about the things you can benifit from not smoking. Try having your friends or family talk about it. Its bad for your health. Ask yourself do you really want to harm yourself? the rest is up to you keep fighting my friend keep fighting!for every pack you buy, put away the same amount of money that you spent in like a piggy bank or something.
see how much lung cancer costs.cold turkeyHave you tried Chantix? It just recently got FDA approval and is showing a better quit success rate than nicotine replacement products.the best way to avoid smoking is first to know its effect, which i think will discourage you of smoking more. then think of other ways like chewing gums instead of having cigarettes. my granny before is a smoker, then she change to chewing gums, that made her better.yeah lol, its a *****, iv got the addiction as well. so i really dont have much advice for you. and the gum doesnt work, i have tried it too. try like suckers or something. i just stopped trying but im going to try harder this time. good luck.wellbutrin, chewing on straws, ice, pencils etc., nicotine inhailer, lung desease! best of luck..i started when i was 12 now i-m 34 with a serious addiction, and c.o.p.d. ( perminant lung damage)

Plastic Surgery and Smoking? -

Plastic Surgery and Smoking? -

I am scheduled for breast reduction surgery in 1 week. My PS asked me to stop smoking for 3 months (which I did) with the exception of a couple on the weekend here and there. I am now freaking out that I smoked a couple last weekend and will end up with complications. Should I ask my surgeon or just go through with it?The reason why they want you to stop smoking is because smoking constricts your blood vessels. This can make things go unplanned during surgery. Anything that can mess with circulation (like smoking) could have serious consequences to your health. You should be fine with a cig here and there, but quit as much as you possibly can. Maybe this is a good time for you to give it up for good! You MUST tell your surgeon!

You could cause serious healing issues by smoking even if it was one smoke!

Edit: LISTEN and READ what rlsteely says below!

You MUST disclose the fact you smoked to your doctor. You could seriously affect how you heal.I am a plastic surgeon in Houston and can tell you do NOT listen to some of these other answers saying it is OK to smoke!! If you have only had a few a week or two before surgery, that is fine, but smoking just before surgery can have adverse effects during your procedure with regard to anesthesia. As a surgeon, it is easy to tell who has been lying about smoking, because at extubation (when the breathing tube comes out of your mouth at the end of the procedure) there is thick, yellow gunk all over the tube, and the patients are coughing and hacking like crazy and gasping for air.

Some plastic surgery procedures are more risky to smoke after than others. In many of the procedures, most of the blood supply lines to your tissues that are being operated on are severed, leaving only a few left in which to survive. Smoking does two things to the blood in the supply lines, the smoke decreases the oxygen concentration in your blood, making it harder to keep the tissue alive, and the nicotine in the blood causes what few blood vessels you have in the operated area to constrict, also letting less blood through. In your particular case (a breast reduction) this can lead to LOSING YOUR NIPPLES FOREVER!! My worry with you is not the few cigs you had last week- that should be fine. It the few cigs you may have just before surgery (jeopardizing your health under anesthesia)- or your inability to stay away from cigs after the procedure (permanent loss of your nipples, fat necrosis in the breast leading to hard nodules in your breast, poor wound healing.)

You should first evaluate your ability to TRULY stay away from cigs for at least a month after surgery before moving forward- the damage that could occur afterward may be permanent.

I hope this helpsYou should be fine. Smoking makes the healing time longer. They wanted you to stop for now because it will make your recovery easier, and the faster you heal, the less chance of infection you have.
The less you smoke, the better you will heal, but smoking a few here and there shouldn-t complicate your surgery or do any significant harm.I would tell your surgeon but i don-t think it will affect you too much, i had a breast reduction two years ago. Good luck. They normally tell you this because your healing will be much better if you try not to smoke. Try your best to not have any but if you feel worried and guilty for having the odd one then tell your PS next time you see them. If you have any concerns questions or answers that you want answering a good forum to go to is

there are loads of women in the same boat as you there! No worries. You should continue with the scheduled surgery. Smoking cessation is recommended or required by most surgeons so that the healing process will not be disrupted. The nicotine constricts the blood vessels in your body and you are not able to heal properly. I also had a reduction and my surgeon asked me to quit. I had no problems at all. Best of luck.I doubt the couple of cigs will complicate the surgery. However, don-t smoke any more - in fact it-s a great time to quit. You may want to be upfront with your doc and let him know that you did quit, but last week had a couple. But have not had any further.

Smoking does constrict blood vessels and prolongs healing. Also, if you are having general anesthesia the anesthesiologists wants to make sure your lungs are clear.

Good luck with your surgery.

Can you give me good reasons to stop smoking? -

Can you give me good reasons to stop smoking? -

keep donating your money to the tob company, thank you for smoking, good for business.A reason can be viewed as being “good” or “bad” depending on your outlook on life. If you’re not really concerned about the welfare of your family and yourself then I don’t think anyone can give you a “good” reason to stop smoking, they will simply be reasons not to smoke.

Now that we have that out of the way, the best reason to stop smoking is because you are irreversibly damaging your health. No matter what Big Tobacco tells you, smoking will kill you. It will severely damage your lungs and you will end up with the latter part of your life coughing up blood and mucous. If you’re really unlucky you will get cancer and will have to go through all sorts of chemo and/or radio therapy and watch yourself die slowly and painfully. Not only is this a harrowing experience for you but it will be a miserable time for your family and friends and loved ones.

But, if you’re one of those very lucky people who has a gene that makes them almost immune to smoking then you might not be too concerned about any harm to your health.

In that case you need to think about all the harm you’re causing to people around you, through passive smoking. Every time you have a smoke, you’re very slowly killing someone who’s close by.

If you’re not bothered about killing other people then think about all the money you will save by not smoking. You can save up all that money you light up and puff away and buy yourself some luxuries. Maybe expensive clothes or shoes or a new TV or a new car. Whatever takes your fancy. It doesn’t matter how you spend it because if you were smoking you’d be burning it away.

If you’re super rich and is not worried about money then I guess there’s no good reason to stop smoking. You’re immune to cigarette carcinogens, you don’t care about others and you have more money than you care to worry about!it increases your risk of lung cancer. It decreases your stamina and leaves you with shortness of breath in the short term, in the long term you can have bronchitis or have difficulty breathing and wheezy lungs. It stains your teeth and makes you smell bad. It makes your breath stink. It stains your fingers and it makes you wrinkle faster and age faster than you would if you didn-t smoke. It also gives you an ashy look-almost sick if you do it for several years and regularly. Finally it is expensive, you waste so much money just to kill yourself!!!It smells bad. Stains your teeth yellow. Not aloud in many places anymore because risk of making other people sick. It costs way too much ! With the price of fuel climbing and everything else. Think of how much money you would save. WAY better fo your health. I had an uncle who died from lung cancer. It was a very painful, horrible way to go. It-s a nasty addictive thing and if you can quit... all the power to it. You-d feel better, smell better, have more money, and your quality of life would improve. I don-t know who I-m trying to convince.. You or mecan you give any good reasons to continue smoking? doubtful.None that are not readily available to any educated person.nope -it-s all about choice. you have to want to quit. You will get lung cancer and die.Kim (see answer below) and I are out of cigarettes and need yours.
