Chantix Stop Smoking? -

Chantix Stop Smoking? -

I have COPD and I have to stop smoking. I do not want to, but I have to. I feel that my breathing is getting worse. I use Advair and it helps tremendously. Does Chantix work? My doctor said to take it for only seven days. Do people take it for longer than one week? Someone said it makes you itch. Is this possible? Wellbutrin did absolutely nothing for me. I smoke three packs a day. I admit it - I definitely need help. I once thought they made a cigarette with no nicotine in it, but I have never seen it. I hope one of you can give me some good advice here and please let me know if Chantix really works. I understand that my insurance does not pay for it and it costs $120 for one bottle. Thank you.my sister-in-law used chantix and you have to be on it more than a week for it to work. What chantix does is it decreases the cravings for a cigarette. She smoked 2-3 packs/day. She quit smoking in 1 1/2 months. You have to be on it at least 3 months.I-m a non-smoker!! I used Chantix for 5 weeks, Dr. told me that It was a 12 week program for me. But stopped taking it because I had very unusual dreams.I was a light smoker maybe 3 to 6 cigarettes a day. I don-t even think about it any more, for me it was my miracle pill. Good Luck!!

My mother (a nurse in the ER) has two coworkers that have used it with great success. One was a smoker for 30+ years... and after being on it for almost 2 weeks... quit entirely. The other used it for a few weeks... and said couldn-t stand the taste of cigs after a few days and quit as well. From what I understand, you continue to smoke the first week you-re taking the medication... and then the taste becomes repulsive at which time you quit. I-m still trying to get more data on this... as I-d like to use it to quit. My mother will be giving a try in the next couple of weeks... and if she quits... then I-ll know that it works miracles.
I do believe that no matter what you use... the desire to want to quit needs to be there for it to work effectively.
Good luck.I also have COPD but i am still smoking. I did try the Chantix and it didn-t work for me. It took my appetite and I only weigh 85 lbs. so i quit taking it. You do have to be on it longer than a week. My doctor gave me a months supply. The first week is a stronger dose and the next three weeks is the same dose. I have had friends try it and they only quit for a little while. I did quit for awhile. I did the nicotine gum and it did good and it dont cost as much. I would suggest the gum first. You can get the generic brand and in different flavors for like 20.00. Since you smoke 3 packs a day you should get the 4 mg. gum. Good luck!!Chantix worked for me after only 6 doses. Wellbutrin did nothing for me, either.. 120 isn-t much, if you smoke 3 packs a day; that works out to 90 packs a month, at 4 bucks a pack =360 per month, just on cigarettes. By the way, it-s not the nicotine that wrecks your lungs, it-s the tar. Nicotine wrecks your circulatory system.O.K. Yes chantix does work but you have to take it more than one week and you have to take it in increasing dosages. It is a non-nicotine therapy that actually blocks the receptors sites in the brain but still gives you a similar feeling of pleasure as though you were smoking. Thus enabling you to quit. There are also the tobacco quit line, the cdc, and several other government agencies dedicated to helping people to live smoke free. All without cost to you. There are even several drug companies that will give you their patches (nicoderm cQ) for reduced prices for people on fixed or low incomes. Your doctor should have told you about these programs already. I am very happy to hear that the Advair is making a difference in your life. Make sure that you take it according to package directions. Best of luck to you.I-ve had friends that quit smoking using Chantix. I asked them about the side effects, but they said they didn-t have any from taking Chantix. You should do some research on it and give it a try (seeing as how your doctor already recommended it).

Why do i not care about school or life in general anymore after i stopped smoking weed? -

Why do i not care about school or life in general anymore after i stopped smoking weed? -

I quit smoking about three weeks ago and ever since I-ve been procrastinating a lot and just kinda bummin around. I smoked a few times a week for about three months and i loved life. I really cared about getting my work done early and having free time. I-m just wondering if anyone can tell me a good way to take my mind off of it. Thanks.Rediscover life and yourself. Its difficult but it can be done. do all those things you used to love. Listen to music, dance around the house, go for walks, read some books, watch some films, meet some interesting and stimulating people. When you rediscover yourself and start to enjoy your own company you-ll start to enjoy life too.

Although I think people should be able to do what they want in life so long as it doesn-t harm anyone else, including smoking up everyday, its really quite disturbing when people are not able to function or enjoy life sober.

set yourself tasks or a project or a hobby. Invest in something (paints? a camera? Basket weaving accessories?!). Then write up a ritual, a timetable and stick to it. You-ll feel production and start to enjoy yourself. Life isn-t about drugs. I don-t see any harm in you taking up smoking again, like maybe once a month or something, in the future, but for now, just discover why life can be so great.

Good Luck!Well I am proud of you for quitting because of the serious health risks. But the reason why you stopped caring for school and life is because you have the void of nothing to reward yourself with in the end. Pick up a new hobby to keep your mind busy. Keep you in check so when you are at school you want to come home right away and start working on that new hobby.

I suggest something musical. It will help your math, and english skills if you choose to sing. And will also help you write songs to vent about how much you do not care about life or school so you can get it out and do well in both.I smoked daily, up to 5 times a day, for 7 years, and I quit 4 years ago when I found out I was pregnant.
Smoking, or drinking, or anything that alters your perception of reality is a way to escape.
You need to figure out how to care about these things while you are sober.
It is tricky, but can be done!
Don-t give up! I-m sure you cared about these things before you started smoking weed?
It WILL get easier, just try to keep busy, find a hobby, or a sport that you-re interested in, and talk to friends or family if you need the support.
Best of luckSounds like you just need something to look foreward to. Try making plans for the holidays or something. Keep your head up. Everyone gets into slumps where they procrastinate and feel down and out. Do somethin good for yourself!!!When you get high all you care about is living your life and getting high again, it gave you enthusiasm and without it well you dont care anymore.why would you ever want to quit? Its the best plant out there!!!
to solve your problem SMOKE MORE WEEEEED!!!
and I havent tryed to stop and Ive been smoking since 8th grade. Im not a senior in highschool.
=]
ok.....smoke some cronic weed! that will do the job

Man, if I knew that answer, I would of quit a long time ago! LOL. Try the patch and the gum. Also talk to your doc. He can prescribe Wellbutrin to help you also.

But ultimately you can try all these I listed, but until you have the mind set and the will power to really want to quit....nothing is going to be successful. You have got to REALLY want to quit first!

Good Luck! :)don-t light up

or

stop suckingwhat reason holds you to smoking ?!Sew your mouth shut. Works everytime. Make sure you consult a physician for this procedure (don-t censor me yahoo).Eat sunflower seeds.Ask your Dr.to prescribe Zoloft it alleviates any desire to light up--tried everything that was suggested and this really worked. It truely is a -head game.- Use some negative images, picture yourself in a bad state of health...visit with someone who has smoked for a long time and is now paying the price for it. Then use some positive images....think of what you will do with the extra money, the better health.
Take a nice vacation with the money you will save.

No easy way to stop. But stop. Wishing you Good Luck.Stop.the most successful way to quit is to go cold turkey, chew a lot of gum or suck on lollipops to keep your mouth busy so you dont feel the need to eat more or smoke a cigarette..(gaining weight while quitting is the result of eating more to keep your mouth busy)

if you cant do it cold turkey use the patch or chew nicotine gum... However this will only make you want cigarettes more because the nicotine is still in your body and your body craves more of it. If you quit cold turkey the noctine eaves your body faster and you will go through withdrawal quicker...

Also i found makinga list of reasns to stil smoke and reasons to quit can be very helpful. every time you want to smoke a cigarette look at this pros and cons list and this may help you want to succeed!

Hope this helps!use nicotine gum??COLD TURKEY!Hey have you tried picking up a replacement hobby are get help mentally smoking doesn-t just hurt you physically but mentally because you haveto think what you are living for i really helps to think about your future after a lifetime has taken its toll on your body. Then how much money you have spent on whatever you smoke. THINK ABOUT ITA. don-t start
B. use nicotene gum
C. have your family watch you and hide your cigarettes
D. all of the abovejust make a vision......-from now on i will stop smoking 4 ever and ever and ever!!!!!!!-

Stopped smoking, is it for good? -

from 17-23 i have been a smoker. At New year i quit smoking and have not had once since....big pat on the back! However last time i only managed 6 months and had serious cravings throughout. This time i have had no cravings at all but loads of people have said -once a smoker, always a smoker- do you think this is true? Do you think i-ll ever smoke again? You won-t go back to smoking if you are determined to quit. This is definitely a good thing and stop thinking about past experiences. Look forward and think about all the goods things you are going to buy with the money you save! Good Luck!Take care of today and tomorrow will take care of itself.now you know the answer to this, if you havent smoked then you know that saying is full of crock.

could you come answer my question please.I quit once on my own for 14 months, but I began smoking a little here and there and it built full up. Then I quit about 18 months ago using hypnosis. I still have cravings...everyday. I will not smoke again. You can decide that too.

CONGRATS !!!!You can do it! I quit 160 days ago and I feel like a whole new person. Stick with it! Besides, smoking is trashy.No. If you think you can.....You can. You-ve quit for good this time.Listen to your lungs, heart, throat, whiter teeth etc. In other words your improved health. Not other people.I hope not, but you must have a strong willIf you give up on yourself yes but if keep trying to forget the cravings you shouldnt go back. chew gum or suck on a candy if you get a crave trust me i knowNo....That is if you are able to hold back the cravings and stay away from the nicotine. Other than that you won-t smoke again.i hope not.

but try thinkin what good it is for you and your family

try have a healthier addiction like gum.i don-t know.good for you. dont listen to those prejudice people. (as if they are perfect.) i think that as long as you are in control u can quit completely. which means dont let someone bring them around u and keep it off ur mind. good luck.its entirely up to you. if you really want to stop smoking, you can. or maybe you want to have gum desease first or cancer before you decide to quit.NO its not true if you smoke you still have the ability to stop smoking . i think you should chew O.D gum to help stop the craving 4 cigerettesThis is not true! Everyone is different and its all about YOU! If your ready to quit for good, then you will do great! Listing to these people will only bring you down and maybe even push you to have one again. I am still struggling with smoking and I give you credit! I think you will do great, and dont let other peoples words bring you down!congradualtions that u stopped .. keep it up .. ull appreciate it in the future ... who ever says that isnt completley rite .. everyone needs a second chance .. you might have cravings but eventually youll get over it.. and be fine with not smoking.
