Psycholigically?and Physically (with nicotine)?I-m an ex smoker who gave up many years ago, I was lucky enough to be able stop by will power alone but I accept that many cannot.
I-m a recovered alcoholic but didn-t have the will power to stop drinking so I went into rehab three years ago and have been -dry- since.
I know nicotine gum helps some people as do the patches, it-s worth a try, at least they are less harmful than smoking, just make sure that you stick to a program of weaning yourself off the gum.
Doctor-s surgeries are full of helpful free information on quitting the habit, nibbling on sticks of carrot or celery that have been kept in the -fridge not only gives you something to do with your hands (which is part of the psychology) but also stops you eating sweets and putting on weight as your sense of smell and taste return to normal.
Good luck.I-ve heard for some people it does help. I used to use Nicotine gum, but the first time around I started back up. The next time I used it, I finally quit. I found that chewing cinnamon gum helped alot. I-ve heard there-s something in it which helps calm the cravings, at least it did for me. But if you start out with the nicotine gum, start out with the lowest dose first if you-re a light smoker. If you-re a heavy smoker, (two to three packs a day), then you might need a higher dose. It helps to take the edge off so you can get through the day. The first three weeks are the worst, but when you get past that, then you-ll do ok. It will take time, but if you-re a smoker and want to quit, you will eventually do it. I-m glad I did. I smoked 13 years before I quit. It will be ten years for me this Christmas Day.Gum is rubber, more or less, and does not in any way assist beyond the oral fixation. My Dad kept a small bag of cut up vegetable, carrots, celery, etc, to chew on when he was urged. As he tells it, he only did it once (quit) and I never saw evidence to the contrary. It may seem a small penance to chew celery but do you realize how quickly you can become accustomed to a new thing you don-t initially enjoy? The deeper effects you seek are in a zip lock bag : ) May your intention begin definitively and carry on indefinitely. No! The best way is to simply not to smoke.Trust in yourself and in your own will to be healthy.
I was a committed smoker for forty years and never even considered stopping until I had a scare,I simply stopped!! And have never looked back.I used to smoke about fifty a day of DRUM rollups, very tarry and quite strong, but believe me when I say it was nowhere as bad as I thought or was led to believe.Trust in yourself and you can do it! And without any substitutesI think it is mnore psychological then physical. It just takes your mind off of it. And be prepared to buy a lot of packs of gum. My friend chew like 5 packs of gum a day.Yeah but you-d be addicted to chewing gum.Yes, but stopping to chew gum is the real trick.
