I have a very odd question pertaining to stopping smoking by using chantix and smelling odd smells? -

Ok, I smoked for about 3 years then I took Chantix (Rx) and was able to stop. 4 months later, a friend begged me to smoke w/him - I did.(Stupid)I continued to smoke til about 3 weeks ago when I started taking Chantix again. On Chantix, I have to wean myself off cigs. @ the same time. Question: I keep smelling a foul/weird smell that smells like when a skunk sprays.(I am from the country and I know what skunks smell like when they spray.) I don-t smell it all the time, I sometimes think it is my cloths, my car, or some new funky BO. I have asked others and they don-t smell it. The only thing I can think of is maybe my body is detoxing from the Chantix - that could be the smell. I know that when you quit smoking things taste - smell different.(In a good way)Has anyone else had this? Heard of this? Know what it could be? I read other questions on smell before posting and I don-t have diabetes.Yes, I have good hygene. No weird/rude answers please. Thanks.i think that brand name of smoking-cessation-aid is the one I heard about in the news recently. I think it was linked to neurological damage which would explain the weird/awful smell. No idea what your smell is,but drugs are not required to quit smoking. I smoked 3 pack a day for 25 years and quit cold turkey. Find a substitute. I ate a butterscotch candy every time I got the urge for a smoke. Been 4.5 years now without a cigarette. Good luck, it-s all mind over matter.

Why cant i stop smoking meth? -

Why cant i stop smoking meth? -

i really need to stop but i can-t. I-m tryin , i swear.Well I hope you can, it is very dangerous. Have you tried getting into rehab? I know it is tough but sometimes to kick an addiction, you just need a little help :-) It is OK to ask for it. I think that is what you are doing right now, you are asking us to help you by listening to you and supporting your decision to stop it. I hope you can get off of it soon so you will have a very bright and happy future to look forward to. Good luck to you :-)

Also, I found this link:

Take care of yourself, you can do it!ITs a tough addiction. Check into a residential program before its too late.I think its because your addicted. :: Nod:: And unless you lock yourself in a room with nothing but necesities, you wont be able too. Have you seen trainspotting? Do what the character in that did, he had someone lock the door from the outside and they took care of him fed him and everything. Oh and be careful, you will be haveing withdrawals sooo bad.. You will probably hallucinate.Because you-ve already killed most of your brain cells and so the one-s that are left have you thinking that this is OK and you won-t die one day or maybe because deep down inside you really want to die sooner than you have to............ You need to check into a rehab and stop hanging around the same atmosphere with meth heads, or you will never be able to conquer this. And try God, he can help you with anything if you just ask...............Because methamphetamine is a highly addictive narcotic. It could ruin your life, get help soon.I can only offer some advise, get some drug treatment ASAP!! I know it-s not easy, however you deserve a better life...
God Bless! There are doctors who specialize in drug-avoidance treatment for people who cannot control their own addictions and for whom traditional therapies don-t work. If you haven-t already, consult a local drug counselor for recommendations in your area. These people are there to help, not to get you into trouble, or more trouble than you are already in. It is a good sign that you are concerned about yourself. Good luck; it will be hard work.Your addicted. You need to get into treatment, before your drug problem becomes a law problem.Take medication.you will...when you go to prison or become DOA !!!

Is it easy to stop smoking? -

no, but is good for you and for all the people around you, so worth the effort.yes all you have to do is die. That is real easySmoked a packet a day...Wanted to quit I went cold turkey. You just have to try so hard to keep away from it. 2 years smoke free.Nicotine is very addicting but if you have a strong mind its possible...You have to want to quit smoking. where there is a will there is a way...Sure, it-s easy to stop.
I musta- stopped a million times.
STAYING stopped is the hard part.
I used Nicoderm CQ. It worked for me.Not for most people but you must. Cold turkey has proven to be the most effective according the the American Cancer Society literature. Nicotine is out of your system in 72 hours and after that you have to deal with the mental aspect of the withdrawal. Keep at it and avoid the patches as they deliver nicotine to you system in decreasing doses - that just prolongs your goal. Get help - support. A book by Linda Rector Page titled Healthy Healing has a wonderful section on stopping smoking naturally. The best to you. My mother is in the final stages of emphysema and it is one of the most awful - frightening things ever. Don-t give up. You are more valuable than cigatettes.Cigarettes have nicotene in it, which is very addictive, and it is way hard to stop because you are addicted to the drug.I don-t know...NO!!! I quit 9 months ago and i am still craving it.. I try and stay out of barsYou just have to be very motivated and have a lot of will power.Who cares dont starti actually found that it was easy to quit for someone else because my boyfriend didnt like it, so i quit. and once i quit, i never wanted to start again.depends on what method you useFor some people. I smoke whenever I want. I go months even years without. I just enjoy it. Others who are addicted struggle.

Don-t listen to the guy below me that said -Don-t Give Up.- I think you should give up.
131 QUIT (AUS)nono it takes allot of workMost difficult of all addictions to put down. Don-t start if you haven-t...you may not be able to quit, regardless of what you think..Take if from a smoker...don-t start, or quit now.as U know it`s not that much easy but it worth huh?!Only if you want it to be.NO. It is a rough road. But it is WORTH IT IN THE END. It feels so great to take those myspace quizzes that say -no, i dont smoke- and to tell ppl who offer you a cig -no thank you, i dont smoke- it is well worth it.hell nah,im tryin to stop it since 6 yrs but i cant...I think no. But you can try, you should eat chewing gum instead of smoke

Radiotheraphy and smoking? -

Radiotheraphy and smoking? -

my sisters been having radiotheraphy now for 4 weeks, shes still smoking though,im really angry with her, shes not well at all, shes cut down loads but im so mad at her i dont know if the smoking will interfere with the radiotheraphy shes got throat cancer, and it was only a small bit of cancer, which i think she could beat it,but i cant get her to stop smoking,i feel im nagging, our brother died 2 years ago of throat cancer he was only young and he was non smoker/drinker my sister drinks also but not much at the moment any advice please? If somebody continues to smoke after being diagnosed with throat cancer, you must know by now that you can-t MAKE anyone give up an addiction. I could only quit (after many years) when I was staring the grim reaper in his bony face. It was very hard to quit, but I wish I could convey my delight at having another chance to enjoy this wonderful planet Earth. There is a new medication called -Chantix-, which blocks nicotine receptors in the brain, doing away with cravings and nicotine addiction.
I took it for a month (recommended is 3 months) and quit after the third dose. The only cravings I had were mild and fleeting. Her ENT can prescribe it. A month-s course costs about the same as a month-s worth of cigarettes.
You may want to tell her that heavy smokers who are heavy drinkers have a 75% greater likelihood of developing a lethal oral or throat cancer than a non-smoker, non-drinker.
I hope radiation will fix it and she won-t have disfigurement or difficulties with voice, swallowing or chewing. There is no such thing as a -little bit of throat cancer- since even a small amount can often be deadly. Can your mother not chew nicotine gum during her cancer treatments? Your mother is a perfect example of the addictive power of tobacco. I feel very sorry for you as you probably feel powerless to stop her self destruction.

If she continues to smoke she greatly raises her chances of therapuetic failure (treatment that does not work or only works for a brief period) and also increased serious complications like treatment related pneumonitis. Here is one applicable study from the medical literature.

Effects of ongoing smoking on the development of radiation-induced pneumonitis in breast cancer and oesophagus cancer patients.Johansson S, Bjermer L, Franzen L, Henriksson R.
Department of Oncology, Ume? University Hospital, Sweden.

PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of smoking on the development of radiation-induced pneumonitis in patients treated for breast and oesophagus cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study on 405 females diagnosed with primary unilateral breast cancer stages 1 and 2 and 201 oesophagus carcinoma patients. The possibilities in Sweden to obtain detailed information from different medical records were used to collect data on smoking habits, radiation treatment and spontaneously reported pneumonitis. Radiation-induced pneumonitis was defined as a combination of roentgenographic infiltrate in the lung field involving an irradiated area on the chest X-ray and clinical symptoms such as non-productive cough and dyspnoea. RESULTS: Six breast cancer patients had spontaneously reported pneumonitis. Five of them were non-smokers (P = 0.182) and the other was a former smoker. Eight of the oesophagus cancer patients had spontaneously reported radiation-induced clinical pneumonitis and they were all non-smokers (P = 0.022), except one, who was a pipe smoker. None of the patients who were cigarette smokers were recorded as developing clinical pneumonitis after irradiation. CONCLUSION: These data could support the previous clinical observations and experimental studies that smoking depresses the frequency of radiation-induced pneumonitis. The present study as well as earlier observations could justify further studies concerning the possibility of an interaction of smoking with cancer treatment, both from the view of therapeutic failures and reduced adverse effects. You should know that most likely your mother-s Dr will not bend over backwards to treat someone with a death wish. By this I mean she will receive standard acceptable treatment but will not be offered risky or expensive treatments that have a potential to really help but are only used in treatment compliant patients who are actively trying to get better.

You are in a very difficult spot. I-m sorry your mother is so addicted. good luck for you both anywaysLet her be. She-s not gonna quit smoking right now, especially with everyone nagging her about it. Constant reminders about her habbit will really just make it worse and her want to smoke more.

Smoking during radiation can be problematic, but I am sure she is well aware of the risks.

You say she has cut back a lot on her smoking. Perhaps she is trying to quit and just knows better than to do it cold turkey. Another thing to think about is smoking is highly addictive. For some people it is worse than cocain. Do you really think now is the time for her to put herself through that torment? Keeping things calm is best for her right now.

My suggestion to you is not remain angry but instead give her loving support. If you notice she has went longer than normal without a cig, say something like, wow, youre doin really good at cutting back! and leave it at that. Offer her gum or mints if she likes them. Sometimes those things can take the mind off smoking. If she mentions to you that she wants to quit or is trying to quit be even more supportive. Dont lecture her if she cheats. Instead say something like, well, you can do better next time, keep trying.oh my god I am so sorry!
If you need someone to talk to don-t hesitate to email me...this must be very difficult for you.
You have got to get her to quit smoking. It is killing her. You need to take away all her cigarettes and do something radical to get her to stop.
