ive tried about everything out there to help quit smoking.
has anyone ever tried praying?I-m sure that somene has tried it... I-ve heard of a lot stranger ways to quit.I smokes for about 7 years and decided to stop cold turkey.
worked pretty good but still had the odd smoke for the next 10 years after that (one every few months at a party).
I am happy to say that I haven-t had one all year and no longer have any desire for one at all. All I do is think about what it does to my body and others around me, how much it costs in dollars, how much I stink when I smoke and how much it makes you look older and wrinkled from doing to many years.Yes, many people at oour church have quit smoking...just by making the decision to do so and praying and asking God to give them the strength and courage to walk away from the cigs...and its worked for all of them so far....seems like a good plan...if u have faith and if you are able to trust that God can help u through the trials and cravingsPrayer without knowing who you are praying to is essentially just positive thinking. The same goes for prayer to non-existent gods.
Effective prayer requires a personal relationship with the true God of creation, Jesus Christ.
Feel free to follow up with me and I can direct you to a pastor in your area who can help.My in-laws tried it without success, but that doesn-t mean it couldn-t work for someone else.
If your belief in God is genuine, then whenever you have a craving really tune in to the fact that not smoking is honoring God and His creation - your body. He didn-t create you in His image so that you could fill it with carcinogens and make it smell like an old ashtray, right?
Smoking-s too big of an addiction to kick without some serious personal effort. (I-ve heard it-s more addictive than heroin). You-ve got to want to be a nonsmoker enough that you-ll do whatever it takes to succeed. God isn-t going to do it FOR you -- it-s up to you. Now, if praying helps you know your own strength to overcome your addiction, then by all means pray. I-m just saying don-t stop with prayer -- you need to back it up with behavior modification.
I tried a hundred ways to quit (after 17 years), and what it came down to was really being committed to quitting. I just got sick of being an addict, and of smelling bad all the time, and I wanted to take control of my life. I-m not gonna lie, quitting was tough, especially for the first few weeks. I took it one day at a time. When I had a bad craving, I did something that made it impossible for me to smoke -- like, washed the dishes by hand. Can-t hold a cigarette when your hands are wrist-deep in soapy water. It also helped for me to get up and moving -- turned off the TV and went for a hike, for instance.
I hope you make it. Once you-ve quit, you-ll be amazed that you ever smoked in the first place.Has anyone out there tried the prayer approach with stopping smoking? -

I stopped smoking 5 months ago, what can I do about the rapid weight gain? -
Ok, so I quit smoking on June 18th. I had smoked for 5 years, less than a pack a day. It wasn-t really difficult at all for me to stop, but since then I have noticed that I tend to eat a lot more. I even eat when I am not necessarily hungry. And it is always unhealthy things like candy or salty - sweet foods, like chips and cookies. Occasionally I will force myself to eat yogurt or something like that instead. I knew I would gain weight after I quit, most people do. I have gained a total of 13 pounds, and this last month I gained 5 of the 13, which means I am gaining more and more as time passes. What can I do about this? I have increased my physical activity, I ride between 2 - 4 miles each day on my exercise bike. I don-t have time to do anything more than that, like join a gym. I would love to but I work full-time and go to college so it is nearly impossible. Maybe you know of some foods I can use to substitute for the unhealthy ones? Or maybe you know a complete different substitute for the food all-together? Any help would be great. I have bad genes in my family, as far as weight goes, and I would really like to avoid gaining as much as possible. Thank you!Congratulations on giving up smoking. It is far healthier to be a slightly overweight non smoker than a thin smoker. 5 months is good, keep it up!
Try drinking water to stem the craving. Have a small glass every time you feel the urge to eat or smoke. Also have fruit handy, that-s sweet.
Best of luck! :)I stopped smoking 5 months ago, what can I do about the rapid weight gain? -

My aunt has been smoking since she was 11 years old and now shes in her 40s. Her teeth are getting yellow and she coughs a lot and sometimes chokes from the harsh coughs. She wants to quit but she doesnt want to gain weight from quiting because shes already overweight and is planning to lose it. Shes really bored all day and I think thats why my aunt smokes so much. She smokes like a pack a day... I think? Somewhere around there maybe a little more or less.
What can she do to keep busy?

Please, I need good answers. I dont want anything to happen to her :-[
I appreciate all the suggestions and help that you give :)Well she won-t put on weight unless she increases eating. Some people replace cigarettes with food when the give up in order to take their mind off the craving.
Here are 2 tips that can make giving up smoking much easier.
Most people smoke in specific situations such as when they wake up, after a meal, waiting for a bus, when they have a coffee etc. Cravings will be strongest when they do these things as they will be mentally prepared for a cigarette and will obviously notice the lack of cigarette. So a good idea, before giving up, is to change these habits. That is, to stop automatically smoking at certain times. A second thing to do is to get out of these habits. So if she normally has a cup of coffee and a cigarette at 11am, then stop having a coffee at 11am.
When people smoke, they relax even though nicotine is a stimulant. This is partly mental in that they relax themselves because they expect to relax and physical in that when they smoke, people take long deep breathes. When your aunt gives up smoking, she should still take time out to pause and take some deep breathes in and out. Often the craving will reduce because part of what the body desires is this deep, relaxing breathing. What are some tips to stop smoking? -

Please share your experiences with me on how you felt after stopping smoking. Preferably cold turkey with no drugs. ThanksI felt like crap quitting cold turkey. With Chantix, quitting is magically effortless.
Cold turkey IS free though...and commendable!
