i-m not sure that anything can be done to stop easily. it depends on how well you-ve prepared yourself. i stopped 8 days ago and have gone -cold turkey-. you may need to -stop- a few times before you find the best way that suits you, e.g. patches, gum etc.

samAllen Carr-s book and cold turkey worked for me. First week was hell but after that I found it easy. I-ve been stopped for 4 months now and I don-t miss it at all.Change your routine. What i mean is if after a meal you normaly go in the lounge to have a fag. go out side and have a look aroundTell your friends and people around you... if they know your intentions they will help and it will release the pressureMake a pact! Tell yourself that you may never break it.pick a partner who wants to give up like you want to.And both help one another and G00D LUCKA little bit of will power is what-s needed.

If you have a reason to stop (health/health of others/money/etc) and that reason REALLY matters to you then will power will work.

If the reason is just a false excuse you are giving yourself then it won-t work and you will need help (patches/hypno-therapy/etc)

I am a hypnotherapist, and the research that I am aware of indicates that hypnotherapy is the most effective way of helping people to break their smoking addictions -- but only for those people who have made the commitment to stop.

But I think that the process can be made physiologically easier by using nicotine patches or gums as well -- gradually decreasing the amounts used.

Also, it helps to remove cigarettes and anything that reminds you of them from your personal environment.

Keep yourself occupied doing other things such a sport, reading, etc.

Do not spend time with people who are smokers, or in places where people smoke untill you have broken the habit.

Ask the people you work, live, or recreate with to help you. They might offer you encouragement, and help make sure there are no cigarettes around you that might tempt you in a moment of weakness.

Some governments also have quit lines where you may receive telephone support.Nothing, well try getting hypnotizedI don-t think anything will make it easy. But it will be easier with help. Try Zero Nicotine, Hypnosis or some other smoking cessation aid and you will have greater success. We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.

Also if you do quit and it lasts a while never think -I-ll just have one-i gave up a couple of years ago, as easy as easy will come when it comes to smoking..using the nicorette inhaher, it helped with the habit of having that hand to mouth repitition...i ended up having the inhaler pipe in my mouth/hand nearly all day, but in the end it worked, and now my boyfriend is giving up a bigger habit than i had and is using the inhalers and is doing really well. He has tried to give up so many times before but it hasnt worked until now so...
But then again u have to be ready to give them up yourself, it wont work if ure being nagged by a loved one to give them up!

Nothing to my knowledge. I quit in July. Still quit, though I-ve had a couple slips. NOT easy. Here-s my best advice:
-Just quit. Don-t monkey with -helpers-, in my opinion they only drag out the actual addiction.
-Try to be aware of what is the addiction and what is you. I went through crazy mood swings for the first two weeks. It was the addiction trying to hit the trigger points that usually made me smoke.
-Remember that it is an addiction: Do you really want an outside chemical substance dictating what bar you go to, restaurant you dine at, the schedule for your social outings, etc?
-And finally, the one that helped me the most: think about the money. I-m saving almost $125 per month not smoking. That is a phone bill, cell phone bill, summer power bill, and a tank of gas every month, all by not smoking.

had pneumonia and quit smoking at the same time but have dry feeling in my lungs doctor gave me combivent inhaler but have constant dry mouth and feeling in my lungs and lots of mucas in my throat what should i doCombivent is definitely NOT an expectorant. It is a combination of albuterol ( a beta 2 specific adrenergic bronchodilator) and atrovent ( an anticholinergic bronchodilator). I would reccommend going back to your Doc - talking to him. Be careful of the advice you get on here! LOLI apologize for my misinformation, but I asked my mom (who-s a nurse) and she apologizes, she had just got off a 12 hour shift. Combivent is not an expectorant, but one of it-s side effects IS dry mouth and a dry or -airy- feeling in the lungs. Just give it a while to get the pneumonia completely out of your system, then if it-s still really bad, go see your doctor.Yes you will feel worse for awhile while your body is ridding itself of toxins. Hang in there it will get better. Typically 6 months.First off, congradulations on quitting smoking. I-m no stranger when it comes to dealing with pnuemonia. I have a six year old boy that has to do nebulizer treatments for pnuemonia, he uses albuteral sulfate. GO AND ASK YOUR DOCTOR AGAIN!!That is totally normal. Drink as much fluids as you can, because your body is literally making less mucus (which used to keep everything wetter) and it also helps flush away all the tar and junk that is in your lungs from smoking too. When I quit, I lost my voice from coughing so much! However, you will feel better eventually. Keep it up! However, I don-t know about the meds...
