Best way to stop smoking when your partner smokes too? And please be serious!? -

I managed to stop smoking 9 years ago. My partner still smokes so you-ll be glad to know if you DO stop, you won-t automatically start again just because he smokes in front of you. First of all, I made sure I was giving up for ME, no one else. That way means no one can persuade you to smoke when you crave a cigarette. I used Nicorette gum for first 2 weeks to get over the initial stress and swapped to normal gum after that. It-s important to keep your hands busy so do a crossword, play video games or even wash up!! I found housework an amazing distraction!! Craving can last for 10 minutes at a time, if you distract your mind, you-ll realise that. It-s not permanent and will usually strike when you are feeling weaker. Don-t let it win. I treated it like a -squatter- in my mind! LOL Don-t laugh! It worked. I gained power over it by being the Boss! Ask your partner to have at least 1 no-smoking room for you too. Its about respect. If he doesn-t respect your effort, then withdraw something he requires of you! If you ain-t cooking dinner or keeping his bed warm, he-ll come round! Hope you make it. Remember, 1 minute at a time leads to 5, leads to 10 then suddenly you-ve lasted 1 whole day, 1 whole week and 1 whole month. DON-T GIVE UP!!! Its just a paper tube of chemicals!! You are more important than IT!!! Good luck.Make sure they don-t smoke in the house or car or anywhere where you will be able to see/smell it.
Find something that you can do to relieve the cravings when they do for a cigarette - knitting, drawing, chewing gum or anything that will keep you occupied.Find a motivation. I did.. my daughter was mine. i wanted to make sure she was healthy. She does have repiratory problems now.. but it-s not linked to me smoking before... I guess you can say she-s my -anti drug- But just find something that means alot to you.. think about how smoking can affect that aspect of your life and go from there it-s not easy.. i did it and it only took me 3 days to quit... Also talk to your partner about the way you feelI guess u really want to stop smoking, where the condition is,ur partner smokes too. ok?
Its all upto ones will, and how to mould will?
Have in mind and also tell him, there are 18 different compounds found in cigarette smoke,,,,and each one of them can ,independently trigger a cancer (how frequent smoker u are dosent means anything for these 18 compounds).try to learn some good habits for health, and have a thought,,,,how much trouble some people in this world take to maintain peak health and advice others for it!!!OK i heard the best way to stop smoking is to replace it with something else for instance like bubblegum ,mints, candy just something to replace it.Seriously, get a new partner, or at least ban all smoking around you. A nicotine addict-s rights end at the end of your nose. If your partner is too stupid to quit, you are better off chucking them for your own health.A good first step is to develop a pure hatred for the big tobacco companies. I found Tobacco Wars, a documentary, worked well for me; though I-m sure that most anti-tobacco documentaries will work. Once you learn the insidious nature of the tobacco industry, you won-t ever want to touch another cigarette again.dont let him smoke infront of you, send him out in the garden and dont even let him bring his cigs into the house,
I was doing fine at stopping till I saw friends who smoke and I slowly got into it again, now got to start to stop again
good luckI really feel for you with this one. I stooped smoking last year with help of nicotine gum and lots of will power. My partner still smokes and I have to admit at times when he lit up I could of quite easily lit up again myself.

In the end I had too tell him and we came too a sort of compromise. I am not one of these ex smokes who demands that everyone else gives up. So we decided that if he smoked at home it would be in the garden. I was lucky as we both never smoked in the car. So going out was never a problem. If we are in a pub its Smokey anyway so there not much you can do about that until the new law comes in next year.

Anyway good luck with stopping I know how hard it can be.get rid of your partner for a none smokerOK I stopped 7 months ago. Here-s how. I started smoking those cheap off brand cigarettes that taste nasty. Then I bought three different kinds of nasty cheap ones and a box of the patches. I smoked a different kind with each pack, rotating untill the three cartons were done. By this time the taste of a cigarette was disgusting to me. I then wore the patches for half the recommended ten weeks and was done. Sometimes I still want one bad but they tasted so bad that I can resist them now. Hope this can work for you.You will not be able too..as in essence you will be a passive smoker. Unless you partner can support you in this decision, or be inspired to stop with you..it will be a hard task. Smokers tend to have smoker friends..like a community or sub-culture..and that will also need to be challenged..particularly when socialising. It-s not uncommon for smokers who give up to re-evaluate their whole lifestyle!. If your partner won-t give up with you..perhaps you can set up a smokless free zone for yourself..a room or place. Restrict your partners smoking to outdoors..or a deignated area. Agree on certian times of the day e.g bed times.. meal times where no smoking is aloud. The longer you can have before being reminded by your partner..I-d love a cigarette will be important. Leave information about giving up..the health/finacial benifits everywhere. If your partner is serious about your well being and relationship..they will encourage you and even be willing to explore your desire to be healthy.

Anyone succesfully quit smoking? if so what method did you use? -

Anyone succesfully quit smoking? if so what method did you use? -

im wanting to quit smoking and im having a really hard time of it, im trying to just stop smoking with no nicotene patch or nicorette gum (its expensive and i dont want to buy it if it doesnt work well) but yeah as i said its miserable and i dont know how much longer i can stand feeling like crap like this. any advise would be helpfulRichard, i quite the same way as you are, and as you are probably finding it sucks, but the good news is the hell of stopping smoking only last for 7-14 days, after that it is no longer hell just horrible, that goes on for a month or so, and then the craving will only hit every now and again (maybe once a day), after about 3 months then you really start to not want a cig. Am two years quite now and really don-t even think about smoking at all!

Good luck and keep with it.Cold turkey combined with laziness. At the time I quit, my husband was working very late, and in order for me to get a new pack I would have had to go to the store, and I just didn-t feel like walking that far for something that I knew would make me feel worse(sore throat and coughing) than the withdrawals I was having. Plus, there was no way I could smoke my husbands cigs. Cheap menthols are nasty:PI tried every remedy until I a few months after I accepted Jesus as my savior. My husband decided to quit and I had to as well if it was to work. We drank tons of water and prayed and we made it through.
The 1st 3 days was HORRIBLE!
We kicked and screamed the whole way but we made it with the Lord-s help.
It was a miracle.I quit cold turkey but I had good motivation I was pregnant... Since I don-t think you can do that I have heard really good things about the Smoke Away system. It really doesn-t cost to much and there-s a money back grantee so you have nothing to lose!

Good Luck!my sheer strong will power helped me quit smoking. no nicotine patches or gums. i went through the cold turkey syndrome, which felt like hell, but now, i-m free of nicotine and absolutely healthy. if i did it, you can do it man. goodluck - cheers!I quit cold turkey with no cravings or irritation. I got so discusted with the ashtray taste that I kept brushing my teeth and tongue after each cigarette. I didn-t really try, I just smoked fewer and fewer cigarettes because of the foul taste and smell. Eventually the smell became so repulsive that I quit, but believe it or not it was three days after I quit before I realized i hadn-t had a cigarette. After that I read that the most successful way to quit was when the habit quit you instead of you quitting it. Maybe it had something to do with brushing my teeth all the time. I-m just grateful it was easy for me to let it go.I quit using the cold turkey method. What helped a lot was believe it or not, suckers. It-s an action involving the hand and the mouth. Just pop in a sucker and interact with it as you would a cigarette. Every so often take it out of your mouth for a few seconds and pop it back in, Twirl it around on your tongue, etc.

As long as you-re keeping your hand and your mouth busy it seems to help with the habit of doing it with cigarettes. I used the little -Dum-Dums- brand suckers. They last about as long as a cigarette. :) After a while you-ll be free of the nicotine and the habit will slowly go away too. And then you won-t want another sucker for a loooong time. :)

Make sure you take extra special care of your teeth during this time as theres a lot of sugar in suckers. Alternatively, You could use sugar-free suckers. They cost a bit more and still taste as good. :)

Good Luck on quitting!!Nicoderm CQ. Best method I ever used. Never gone back to smkoing - it-s been 18 years. My husband and I have both smoked for 14 years. I am not ready to quit yet I know I need to. He just stopped and he used the patches..store brand at CVS or Albertsons. They are expensive but they worked for him. Think about how much the cigarettes cost and really its not any more it just hits you all at once. He-s been successful now for 8 months even with me smoking. I used them for a weekend and worked fine until I was around somebody else smoking. Also find something else to do with your time that you normally are used to smoking...that-s what was hard for me, morning coffee, breaks at work, cokes, driving down the road...and you know all the other times you are used to having a cigarette with or after... : ) Good Luck to Ya.I quit when my grandmother died of complications with lung cancer among other things and for me watching her suffer how she did really affected me and made me quitMy husband and I quit cold turkey 14 years ago.
