Hi everyone. I have tried to stop smoking without any success, how do you get the willpower to do it? -

thank so muchget rid of EVERYTHING that reminds you of smoking or any cigarrettes and just do it cold turkey. i heard it was easier to join a support group. kind of like AAA but for smoking, but i dont know any. look some up in your city. hope that helps! This is one of those things where you just have to make a decision, then commit to that decision, and then stick to it. I quit smoking cold turkey. I only craved a cigarette for about 24 hours. I told myself if I could go without one for 24 hours, I-d have beaten the habit. And it worked. After smoking 2 1/2 packs for 12 years, I just put them down. After that first day, I never wanted another one.Chantix, a relatively new medication that blocks nicotine from going to your pleasure center in the brain, worked very well for me. And I can-t say I had a lot of willpower.

But before I decided on my -quit date-, I wrote down my reasons for quitting (there were many of them), but also my reasons for not quitting (there was only one--I enjoyed smoking.). But I was getting more and more anxious about what smoking was doing to my health, and my social life, too. So I tried Chantix. I slipped a few times the first month (they say that-s normal), but I just decided to pick myself up (without being harsh on myself for slipping) and not smoke after that. Sometimes the psychological triggers are there for a while (that-s why I sometimes slipped), but Chantix handles the physiological triggers very well.

I knew that I could gain weight (a lot of people do) after quitting smoking. So I bought a good scale and weighed myself every day. I keep no junk food around and buy a lot of fruit for a treat. But I don-t totally deprive myself--I get a treat (an ice cream cone occasionally). I don-t believe in fad diets. But if I start to gain a little weight, I ask myself what I-ve been having too much of lately (sometimes it-s bread, too much sugar, half and half, pasta, whatever). I stop eating the food I-ve been eating too much of and have more salad and low calorie stuff like that. I also only eat two meals a day--generally lunch and dinner.

After I was off the 12 week Chantix program, I was aware that in the past when I tried to quit, I sabbotaged myself, like so many cigarette smokers do when they-re trying to quit. That is, I-d say, -Oh, I haven-t been smoking for 3 months, so I can have just 1 cigarette.- But no, I was just fooling myself. I couldn-t have just one at all, anymore than recovering alcoholics can have -just one-. I would remind myself that -One will hurt!-

So good luck with whatever stop smoking program you try. And don-t be harsh on yourself if you slip. Just get up and try not smoking after that. Also, before your quit date, you must get rid of all of your cigarettes. Throw your lighters away and get rid of your ash trays. Those are all part of your smoking ritual. Take care. Give yourself credit for trying to stop. It-s a good decision.you can either get addicted to heroin or kill yourself also stop being such a pussy and just notput the fag in your mouth or stop buying lighters you dirty addict

p.s am pissed may regret in morningI-ve never smoked, so I can-t speak from personal experience. One technique I heard about is that when you have a craving, tell yourself that you can put it off for 15 minutes. Set a timer on yourself for 15 minutes (computer alarm, cell phone alarm, kitchen alarm, whatever). When 15 min. comes around, put it off again for another 15 min., and so on. In this way, you could reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke every day. Celebrate as the interval of time between smokes increases.Just see clearly (without judgment) how smoking leads to suffering every time
- how it doesn-t give you whatever you believe it can/does/will.

This seeing is enough, and goes beyond intellectual knowing.one thing is to not drink coffee or any caffine because that usually causes one to want a smoke. however you might want to try the patch that really worked for me and i quit and you don-t have to worry about it being another addiction, hope that this helpsRead Allan Carrs the -easy way to stop smoking-
Try to re-program yourself. People are brainwashed into believing the cravings for ciggies are so bad, but...how many people wake up in the night gasping for a cig? Most people sleep 8 hours without smoking, and sleep through any -withdrawl symptoms-. The biggest problem is pyschological....disassociate yourself from ciggarettes. Stop liking them. Hate them. I know that sounds crazy but if you look into everything they do, all the diseases they cause, the money wasted, the terrible impact on your looks, then they will stop being attractive. Really smell the foul smell when you smoke, and imagine the smoke going in and polluting your body as you smoke. Once you see them as an -enemy- it will be easier to quit. Don-t take my word for it though as im a smoker lolHi i stopped smoking taking the new champix mde it easy to quit but many mnay long term side affects of taking this new drug to beware of.
