3 days into stopping smoking and Im going mad...help please? -
Well I-m into day 3 with 25mg patches and a nicorette pipe. I was fine the first 2 days but now I-m feeling irritatable...Any advice from ex-smokers? Is there anything I can do to get over the cravings and mood swings?chances are u are in ur house going mad, good advice stay away from home because ull be in a pattern when ur in ur house to smoke, if u go out and do sumthing intrestin to keep ur mind off it ull do well, if its really bad chew sum gum, or eat but not too much ppl tend to gain lots of weight when they stop smoking....
just think of it in ur head u only need to get throo this day, forget about 2moro, then wake up and do it again, its all in ur head...
best of luck...Like others said, find something to keep yourself busy. Intense exercise will help some with that and the mood swings.
Carry a pack of gum such as Dentyne in case you find yourself absolutely needing to put something in your mouth.
And clean your house: Believe it or not, I-ve found that helps to calm me when I-m upset or nervous. There-s something about organizing your -outer space- that helps with straightening your -inner space- too: It gives you a feeling that you are actually in control. Not to mention it will get rid of the smell of the smoke.
Good luck!ok, the patches do not work for starters, trust me on this, the best thing for you to do is possibly find something to keep your mind occupied such as a sport (tennis, golf etc) not only would this give you the vital fresh air in your lungs but it would allow the (sorry for this term) gunk in your lungs to clear abit. If you ever get the cravings again just think of the long term damage and what kind of future you would face if you carried on smoking. You have surly seen the -smoking kills- videos right? well they dont really give the impact that they should, what helped me is watching this video on youtube about this mothers journey through lung (and various other) cancer I-ll give the link in the sources part. good luck!Stop the patches, stop the pipe.
It IS all in the mind, IF you want to stop, then stop. I got to the point where I was fed up with smoking so I just stopped. It took about a week to get over it. That was 10 years ago. It does help if you say to yourself -Thats another ciggy* I haven`t had- rather than -I fancy a smoke-Dint go messing about with silly fads like gum.
Tell your self why have you stopped - there must me a reason. Then get a back bone and a bit of self respect and stop.
If you havent got a reason then why have you stopped.
remind your self why you stopped. money?- keep a savings jar, children- look at the ir photo instead of sparking up a nice crisp sweet nicotine stick.
Come on, only you can stop.I would tell you, fight the good fight. How would you like to know what fresh clean air really smells like. How you you like to know what a cup of tea taste like. how would you like to run up stairs without puffing, how would you like to have money in the bank. I didn-t look to see if you were male or female, but how would you like your lover to smell you a lovely clean person or an ash tray. Did you know that a Gin and tonic is quite a tasteful drink.
If you want a reason to get over it, its easy, count you new blessings, they can be wonderful. Now why do you want to stop smoking? You will be ostracised by all decent people, You will only be invited to parties full of bores and you will get fat and your breath will smell worse than a smokers. When I stopped I became depressed and lonely so I started again and now my health and moods are all back to normal Also I have all of my old friends back.I-ve been quit for 3 years and still get the craving when I smell smoke...
but it does get better I swear!
Get some suckers for the oral addiction, think twice before every emotional decision and take a deep breath, talk to someone if you can.
You just have to tough it out, your body is withdrawling and finding new ways to deal with stress...
Just remember all the benifits you will get from quiting...
I can breath so much better and you will too!
CheersI found the best way was just stop, whilst you-re still going through the motions with the pipe you-ll still want it.when the urge comes over you just find housework to do anything but tell yourself a mental NO! eventually the cravings will get less and disappear.fine something to occup yourself with or buy an electronic cigarette or the nicrette inhalerSt Johns Wort, 300mg 3 times a day will help level out your moods and its natural. Hang toughI quit over a year ago and it can be rough. I tried to keep busy so that I would not think about smoking.
