How do you help a loved one quit smoking? -

How do you help a loved one quit smoking? -

HOW DO I HELP MY HUSBAND STOP SMOKING HE IS ALSO A WELDER SO IM SO AFRIAD ONE DAY HE WILL GET LUNG CANCER . HES YOUNG ONLY 22 SO I KNOW IT WILL BE BETTER TO QUIT NOW THEN LATER I KNOW HES NOT READY TO QUIT YET BUT I WORRY ABOUT HIMWELL THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS MOST OF THE TIME AND ITS REAL SAD:( BECAUSE PEOPLE WITH STRONG ADDICTIONS ARE STUBBORN WHEN IT COME TO QUITING BUT I GUESS YOU GUYS SHOULD SEEK PEROFESSIONAL HELP WITH A DOCTOR OR SOMETHING.... GOOD LUCK....Best thing you can do is understand he has a real bonafide addiction which is the toughest one to conquer - even worse than heroine or alcohol.

THEN, be understanding and patient. He needs you to love him and not to pressure him because pressuring him will make him smoke more. Honest.

If you let him know you want to support him if he decides to quit, then tell him enticing things, like you-ll make love when he wants a cig, or you-ll fix his favorite snack, or take him to a favorite place or movie. Tell him you-d be willing to help him try Chantix or something too.

Tell him you won-t judge him if he doesn-t have success right away, and let him know no matter what you will do your best to help. Tell him you-ll study up on how smokers have had to try to quit more than once and you-ll study up on things to do to help create a good atmosphere conducive to it. Things like this are all you can do.

The rest is up to him, he has to make up his own mind and find the determination in his own heart. till then, let him know you-re ready to help when he-s ready to quit. Don-t nag!He has a good wife that is worried and you have a good reason to be concerned. First off he smokes, it doesn-t matter if it is 1 or 20 every cigarette is a danger, then on top of that he is a welder that too causes gases. We have a sister -in law that smokes and her daughter has asked, begged, pleaded even contacted the Cancer Association for information and do you think she stopped, nope. If the person does not want to stop no one can make them,. They are their own worse enemies. My kids smoke as well and they are not allowed to smoke around me as I have asthma and do you think they would think of stopping, answer again , nope, they go right on. I feel for you but don-t harp to him about smoking but maybe lay info about cancer around the house more maybe some day soon he will will get the message. Don-t give up the fight. He has to want to do it himself or it wont work. good luck
