Also, the site below should help you out as well. It gives you a great understanding on why people cant stop, how to make a plan, etc.the Only thing i no is the longer you smoke the harder it getsthis seems a thing that has helped others get a jar put some butts in add water when you wont a cig take the lid off and smell that should put you off
you might think 4 years is a long time but it is not 27 years is a long time
good luckI heard that chewing gum when you feel like you need one helps. Also, you should stop hanging out with the people that got you started and throw away your cigsFirst, you actually have to want within yourself to quit. Knowing that its bad for your health or knowing you cant afford to smoke is not good enough. You really have to WANT to quit for it to work. Even having cancer wasnt enough for me. I had to be diagnosed a second time and be literally physically unable to smoke for about 12 weeks to quit.
There should be some sort of free smoking cessation class through your local health dept. Check it out.
Start keeping a smoking journal. Even before you start trying to quit, start the journal. Every time you smoke, write down the date and time, how many you smoked, WHY you smoked (bored, stressed, craving, just woke up, etc), what you were doing before and after, and how you felt before and after. If you start the journal while you are still smoking as you typically would, it can help you identify patterns that you may not have been aware of. And keeping the journal as you try to quit will help you hold yourself accountable. It has the same effect as a food diary for someone trying to modify their diet... If you smoke, you have to write it down, and having to write it down forces you to be conscious of it.
Remember that quitting is hard. If you mess up and have a cig, its not the end of the world. I mean, you shouldnt. But if you do, its NOT a reason to screw your whole effort and go back to smoking. I mean, would you quit flushing altogether because you forgot to once? Would you quit eating because you burnt dinner? Would you quit using the light because you accidently left it on? I think we all know the answer to those, so why on earth would you give up trying to quit if you mess up and have a cig? It sounds sooo common sense, but people have it in their mind that it has to be all or nothing and that if they screw up its over.
Have oral substitutes ready. Regular chewing gum is pretty cheep. I chew on my pen tops all the time. That kind of thing. However, try not to let yourself use food as the replacement. That will just make you gain weight and is trading one addiction for another.
Nicotine is completly out of your system in 72 hours. That third day is the hardest. If you make it past the third day, you have hope. For some people the nicotine addiction is stronger than the physical habbit. For a majority of smokers however, the actual engrained habbit of smoking is stronger. I dont care about the nicotine. My problem is that I need the physical motions. Literally, the motions of getting a cig, flicking the lighter, taking a hit, breathing in, blowing out and the same thing all over again. Sometimes I would smoke an herbal cig if I really just needed one. I dont really suggest that, because smoking anything really isnt healthy. Just try to be aware of what you are more attached to. If its the nicotine, it wont be that hard for you after the first week or so. It its the habbit, good luck. Smoke free for close to a year and a half and I want one every single day.
If you have any way of getting medication, anti depressants can help. Almost all addictions are tied to depression. You may not think you are depressed, but the meds can help.
You will have to quit hanging with the smokers. If all your friends are smokers, you are either going to be lonely or need to make some new friends. While you are trying and newly quit, being around smokers is almost always too much temptation. And if anyone else smokes in your house, kick them outside.ok smoking produce lung cancer and yes you need to stop fast becouse when u get lung cancer to bad so sad be healthy smoking what the big deal with it u are tasting smoke.... that dosent have nothing of cool or good is just plane lame be cool and odnt smoke trust me i see people with lung cancer they always say awww i should have stop smoking long time ago and i told them people told you to stop and you dint now look what happend i always say -what comes goes- XD
