How to stop smoking? -

How to stop smoking? -

Did you achieve to stop smoking for more than one month?
How you did?Come October 8th I will have quit smoking for 2 years =)

and it was HARD I-m not gonna lie to you it takes alot of discipline and alot of will power

What inspired me to quit was that I watched a beautiful man die from Lung Cancer ... I watched what it did to his family, I watched this cancer take a healthy, happy, 220 pound man down to a very sick, very in pain 85 pound man.

it was Thanksgiving weekend that I decided it was time to stop!! AND that-s what I did!

First I went out and bouth the patch NOT the no name brand the actual DR RECOMENDED PATCH!! it costs a little more BUT I found it worked much better!!

With the patch comes a little booklet that gives you tips and ideas Two of those ideas were to make two charts and put them on your fridge

The first chart was 50 numbered boxes and each day you x out a box ... I found watching this page fill up with x-s was very exciting and it got to the point where I couldn-t wait to x out one more day ... It really helped

the second chart was a little more time consuming and lame LOL

BUT IT WORKED GREAT

so this chart was made up of 4 colums
1- what time is it?
2-where are you?
3-who are you with?
4-what triggered the craving?

So everytime you have a craving you go to this chart and you fill it in .. I found that by the time I was done filling out this stupid chart the craving was GONE!! I did this for about one and a half weeks I figured out what my triggers were was able to prepare myself for that craving so it could not just sneak up on me =)

and here I am almost two years later and a non smoker ... you can do this!!

another thing that helped me when I had a craving and wanted to tear a smoke out of a perfect strangers hand and smoke it was this little thought:

-why do I want that smoke now I have suffered for (how ever many days) and I am not about to start over now ... because no matter how bad I want that smoke I know once I have it and I am back at it I will be wanting to quit again!!-

So there you have it .. my guide to quitting smoking!! LOL

Hopefully my novel was able to give you hope and a few good ideas .. keep us all posted as to how you are doing!!

GOOOD LUCK!!! you can do it!! =)Cold turkey the best way, quit one day 1 -week-2 weeks etc.no but try something to do at the place of smoking. try something good that will keep you distracted for ex.: make exercice or something that will help you or your family. also you can punish your self to do things that you will not like for each time you buy some cigarettsI used the patch and joined a Yahoo support group Nicotine Busters. I drank lots of water, did a lot of slow deep breathing, and exercised. It was not easy, but haven-t had a cigarette in 5+ months.

Everybody has their own way of quitting. One works for one person may not work for another.

Good luck!I quit the first time for 2 years then got into a very stressful situation - started again. I-ve quit again - now for 9 months. The first time, I used Wellbutrin. The second time, I quit cold turkey - just stubborned my way through the symptoms.

The main thing is that you have to really want to quit more than anything. Until then, you never will.

You also have to treat it like alcoholism. You can never have even one. If you do, you-ll start again.I have stopped smoking...haven-t smoked in just under 2 months. I quit after smoking for 12 yrs. I started taking Chantix. It is kind of expensive but well worth it. You-re supposed to take it for three months, but I think I could have quit taking it after the first month. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stop smoking.First you have to be determined to stop smoking, try the patch and try to avoid people that smoke at least for a few months . Its all about killing the habit.Cold turkey, but with a lot of preparation.

I picked a weekend. I filled the house with healthy snacks. Sent the kids away for the weekend. Got hubby to agree to quit together. Kept myself distracted through the withdrawl period (mostly by eating, lol). Started a very mild exercise program to help increase feelings of well being and lower stress levels.

And one mental trick:
I lit a cigarette and set it down. And watched it burn to the filter. If I can do that, I can quit. Sort of a test of my will power.

Also motivated by the fact that my grandmother and mother both died horrible deaths from emphysema. That was my future if I didn-t quit. Very powerful thing to face your future like that.Try the prescription drug Chantix. Lots of success with that particular medication.Hi... ;)

You should have a strong will power... that-s it:):):)

I keep my finger crossed for you :)

You know, my first boy-friend said always that if his girl-friend would smoke, he would feel like he would kiss an ashtray... hehehe :) so, I have never tried to smoke... hehehehe :)

Today, I am an -old- lady and ... I have never smoked... it is seriously :):):)

So, you should remember, that your girl-friend will say to you, that she would feel like she ... hehehehe :)

I think, that it is a good reason... :):):)
