How to stop smoke cravings? -

How to stop smoke cravings? -

I stopped smoking six weeks ago, but the cravings are still there, and often strong. Is there a way to stop these, and do they ever go away?Congratulations on quitting! Yes, they do go away with time, but it does take a while. I-m afraid there-s not much you can do at this point but wait it out. But it-s worth it! I quit 5 months ago and still have a craving occasionally. Keep it up!!The cravings will always be there, but they will become less frequent and not as strong.

Cravings are often triggered by certain situations. For a lot of people, it-s drinking, especially in bars, that make them want to smoke. Or someone who would use their 10 minute break at the office to go outside and smoke. Whatever situations you used to smoke in, I suggest avoiding those situations or changing your routine associated with those situations. Don-t go outside for your breaks, don-t drink when you go out.

When you can-t prevent the cravings, you are just going to have to ride them out. The best way to do this is through distraction; get your mind on something else until the craving passes. And don-t forget to give yourself a pat on the back every time you make it through a craving; reward yourself every now and then, too.

If they really are a problem, there are medications than might be able to help. However, you-ve made it six weeks, that-s a MAJOR feat there! You just have to remember that you wanted to quit and why you wanted to smoking. And in a year-s time, every time you smell cigarette smoke, you-ll probably think it stinks.Yes, they go away but sometimes that take what seems like forever.

Here-s some suggestions:

Try keeping some hard candy with you and pop a piece in your mouth when you want a cig. Ditto gum.

This suggestion comes from a professional addictionologist. Keep a rubber band on your wrist and snap it when you get a craving. It-s called aversion therapy and theoretically it will stop the cravings more quickly.

Hope this helps and kudos to you. I have never had the courage to try to quit my 2 pack a day habit. The cravings are in your mind. After 1 week or so the body ends its need for nicotine. If I did it you can. I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day, and smoked for over 30 years. Change your routines. Think about when you smoked, where you smoked, and why you smoked. When you crave, distract your mind with something else. I loved smoking and will miss for the rest of my life. The operative word here is LIFE. I-m 6 years smoke-free now, and really do feel better without them. Don-t make the cigarette win. DO IT !They ease with time just try and not concentrate on them and do something else to get your mind off it.
