any ideas for stopping smoking? (believe me, Ive tried them all)...Im am sooo ready to quit this time!Chantix is the real deal!I am a 24 year smoker who has always fallen short when quitting. I would usually last 3 to 5 days and give in to the urge thinking -I-ll try again soon - I just can-t do it right now-
Chantix made the physical craving waves totally tolerable, leaving the real battle to be mental. The fact that I always draw mental strength from is - -If I actually was to have a cigarette, it would taste like crap, and I would be re-hooked instantly- - NO THANKS!
Being an addict to a death dealing / smelly / high cost habit is not the way to go folks.
Best of luck to all you quitters! Thanks! This was really helpful. My husband was just put on Chantix and we hope it works. He is fighting a 30 year plus addiction.

I also tried 9 different ways to quit.I had a 20 year habit. I quit in September thanks so much to Chantix!!! I was already off the medicine for the holidays...No Problem! Once you quit just keep thinking..I don-t ever want to have to quit again. That-s what gets me through any rough spots. Oh by the way my spouse still smokes and I don-t! Chantix is the way to go.The key is in your attitude! On average it takes about 8 tries at quitting until you finally get to the state of -I-m done! I just want to get this monkey off my back!- When you reach that mindset, it-s like a little light bulb goes on in your head. You can now walk away from those stupid cigarettes just like you walked away from all of the other stupid stuff that you did as a kid.
If your significant other or friends still smoke, they have not reached the same level of enlightenment that you have. When you see them smoking do not envy them because they-get to smoke- rather pity them because they are still addicted to this poisonous substance!
I have about 50 patients on Chantix. It is a useful tool. Though it is the most effective FDA approved smoking cessation medication, the major clinical trials demonstrate a 1 year quit rate of 22-24%. This is significantly better than placebo 12% or nicotine replacement 15% or Zyban 18%. The problem is not in getting smokers to quit (Our clinic has 1 month quit rates of 70-80%) but rather keeping them from doing something stupid (like picking up a cigarette) 6 months down the line.
I mention this to emphasize that you must be psychologically prepared to quit as well. You must learn to respect this addiction and realize that you will -always be 1 puff away from a pack a day-. Fear that first cigarette like an recovering alcoholic fears a drink.
Good Luck
